Scott Hoiberg and Fred Frost: the Parallels

Both blonde. Both head coaches of major revenue sports at Nebraska. Both born in Nebraska. Both had a recent ancestor who coached athletics for the University of Nebraska. Both were star athletes coming out of high school. Both turned down scholarship offers from Tom Osborne to play quarterback at Nebraska. Both went onto careers in professional sports. Both coached in the professional ranks before coming to Nebraska.  Both were successful college head coaches before coming to Nebraska.

 

Both are considered offensive geniuses.

Both are men that we should cut some slack to if they don't win a national championship in the next 2 years!

Fred's great grandfather was an immigrant who settled in a small town on Hwy 11 in central Nebraska. Scott's parents settled in a small town half an hour down that same Hwy 11.

 

If you stay on Hwy 11 for a while until you get to Hwy 3 and turn left, take that until you get to Hwy 34 and turn right, you'll get to a bigger town called Hastings. That's where Tom's from. It's about 30-40 mins away from Wood River.

Here’s hoping they both retire at Nebraska. That implies sustained excellence, stability and a level of commitment not only from them but the University as well. It should be a wild ride, but right now we’re barely out of the chute!
