------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Husker Ladies (14-16) (9-9) (0-1)

Coming off a 21 Win Season in 2017/18, the Husker WBB Team lost a ton of leadership and experience from graduation. There was only a single Senior on this year's team. This lack of experience is reflected in this season's 14 wins, despite returning several stand-out starters and a top-20 class of recruits; And their not qualifying for post-season play.

Inexperience was particularly evident in inability to close out contested games. Ten losses were decided by ten points or less, and six of the losses were decided by five points or less.

Next Year's team will have Three Seniors, Two Juniors, and the returning class of Four Freshmen, now seasoned Sophomores. With an incoming class of three highly-regarded recruits, the WBB Team is Poised to Improve on last season's record and return to Post-Season play.

Quote

McKeown: Husker women are bullish on future, even with no tournament bid
"We just need to get over the hump. What’s it going to take to make that happen?”

Leaders. Clear go-to players. Williams is bullish on this, and it’s good to hear.

91 percent of the Huskers’ scoring returns. Haiby, a gifted scorer and NU’s best player driving to the basket — Williams seems especially insistent that center Kate Cain can dominate games more than she thinks. Brown has natural scoring talent, Taylor Kissinger is the team’s best shooter and Hannah Whitish has been that player before. A three-player recruiting class includes Australian star Issie Bourne, who has international experience and is one of the nation’s best young players.

it’s not hard to envision NU making a run to the NCAA tournament. A run to the second weekend, in fact. The pieces are there.

The building process continues.

Well, it was one of those years you would like to have a mulligan...a do over.  Tough year in some respects, and very good in others. Mix bag of everything...without getting into too many details.

A learning year for  staff and team. Probably everyone is a little wiser now. We'll benefit from now on...from it all.  Playing against good teams has a funny way of showing both strengths and  weaknesses, but/and where you need to get better.

We were so close, so many times, to breaking out to the next level. Maybe it's the biggest reason to work harder, and get improve in tons of ways. Which is obviously the goal for everyone involved anyway.

Got better at some things...rebounding was better at times, not so hot others. Shooting and defense.was the same. Up and down. And assists were  improving.

Free throws were better. Assist's were better at times.  Breakout big scoring at times.

Will be a different team makeup next year.....we should have learned a lot that can be put into practice, and blended in,  next season. Coaches will be another year wiser.  Will recruit even harder.

Below is a comparison compilation of NE women's stats versus other Big Ten Teams for all season games through Saturday, March 2nd plus at the bottom, NE only stats for Big Ten Games. Nebraska had finished its season.  As reflected the least favorable stat is lack of offensive rebounding at 8th place, and was worse using NE Big Ten Games only.   Ave blocked shots were at the top of the league.  Shooting percentage in all games was in 5th place at 0.427 and was lower at 0.416  for Big Ten Games only,  with all the missed lay ups that occurred or horse shots that occurred versus solid in the stance good shots that need to occur.  Big ten opponents shot slight better on average at 0.424.  Turnovers fluctuated from time to time and occurred from both poor passes and poor pass receive positions as well as not handling the press at times.  This was prepared to pass on to the NE women's coaches before games in the Big Ten tournament  to potentially reflect on focus items (offensive rebounding; better shots; press breakers; better defense; and fewer turnovers) to win enough games in the tournament to get in the NIT.  They needed to win the first 2 games in the tournament to get in,  which as you know we lost to Purdue right away,  71-75.   For that game NE shot 38.5% versus Purdue's 44.6%; got out rebounded 44 to 36 with 17 offensive rebounds to their 19; but had only 8 turnovers to their 10. So some of the same old story for this game.

Personally, the current NE women's coaches need to have a much higher focus on these and other basketball acumen for next season, or perhaps get some different coaches and assistants who will!!!
