If any of the three assistants were going to be retained, Molinari is by far the least likely. Now that it appears Fred is going for young recruiters, it's even less likely

Molinari is a defense specialist—Hoiberg needs that.  Molinari has a close relationship with Roby and solid relationships with the rest of the team—they trust him.  He’s the interim head coach.  A mature presence has its benefits, especially amid young Turks.

None of the old staff is likely, but Molinari seems as viable as any.

I believe in the last few years when we got the big wins he had the defensive scouts also.

This St. John's fan is quite a bit butt hurt that Matt Abdelmassih is leaving to join Hoiberg and the Huskers:

But he also has some interesting and quite realistic insights about the Big East as well:

If the Big East would dump Creighton and and add Loyola (IL) then every team in the conference would have gotten to the Final Eight at some point.

I think we have most of the guys we were recruiting on lock down and Fred is an offensive coach so really the guy that makes sense if you're going to keep anyone is either Molinari because Fred absolutely needs to hire a defensive guy or else someone like Eaton at DOBO or Holt at video because that way you don't completely lose all of the knowledge from a staff and have some continuity. Gates and Lewis can obviously recruit but that's what the other guys do.

That must mean no on Gates.

I wouldn't say that. He was at the press conference today. So that could mean he is the one staying on if you read into clues.

I think it's up in the air. But I wouldn't rule it out. No other assistant has been OFFICIALLY announced other than Matt

Wouldn’t Gates be under contract already though?

I am not sure this has been disclosed, but I saw this little blurb while perusing the Chicago Tribune:

Staff stuff: After originally committing to join Fred Hoiberg’s staff at Nebraska, Windy City Bulls coach Charlie Henry is now contemplating taking another college job or remaining with the G League, a source said.

It's good to have options.  I was just thinking about him this morning and I'm not sure if I read if he was linked to Alabama his prior relationship with Oats leads me to believe that would be the other school involved here.  Looks like Oats brought one assistant from Buffalo and will probably keep one of the previous coaches.
