Purdue vs. Nebraska Game Thread Etc.

Good defensive effort most of the game.  I was wondering if I was watching the men’s offense most of the game, not very efficient and too many loose turnovers.  Brown’s hot shooting carried the day and Nicea was the reason we stayed in the game early.   It’s an important morale victory, we have lost too many tight games and too many at home.  Nice to see Kate make some key baskets.  That young lady needs a confidence boost.  Wins at this stage are gold.

WBB officiating continues to be a mystery.  Very physical play was allowed on ball screens, fighting through screens etc., in the first half, then things tighten up in the 3rd quarter.   Much was let go today which worked to Purdue’s advantage but thankfully, we managed to make some free throws down the stretch.

And keep shooting in the gym on your own too.  Maybe take a few more.  As already said gritty, determined win by the ladies.  Tough "D" and the shots finally stopped going down as easily for the Boilers.  ?

Fun to be at the game and witness first hand one of those patented 4th Q comebacks!

When Woody was playing she would be out shooting when the doors opened. This year there is no one out shooting when the doors open.

Brown Leads Husker Rally to Beat Boilers

Lincoln - Freshman Leigha Brown erupted for 22 of her career-high 30 points in the second half to help Nebraska rally from a 10-point third-quarter deficit on its way to a 67-61 women's basketball win over Purdue on Sunday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Brown, a 6-1 wing from Auburn, Indiana, pumped in 13 points in the fourth quarter including six points in the final minute to help the Huskers earn a season series sweep of the Boilermakers. Nebraska improved to 6-7 in the Big Ten and 11-13 overall while setting a school record with its 12th game of the season decided by two possessions or less. Purdue slipped to 16-10 overall and 7-6 in the conference...………..

Brown's 30 points came on 8-of-14 shooting from the field, including 4-of-6 threes, while she also knocked down 10-of-12 free throws. In the most aggressive game of her young career, Brown drew nine fouls on Purdue players. She added four rebounds and two steals in 24 minutes on the day.

Brown became the first Husker in two seasons to produce 30 points in a game, and the first Nebraska guard to get 30 points since Natalie Romeo had 30 points against Wisconsin on Jan. 27, 2016.

While Brown's offense carried the Huskers in the second half, junior Nicea Eliely set the tone for the Nebraska defense. Eliely finished with nine points, five rebounds, three blocks and two steals. In a low-scoring first half, Eliely helped keep the Huskers close.

One last thing(s) on Purdue,

Cain had a good game. (last few games too) Almost seems like she's stepped up her game...seems more confident. Quit worrying so much?  Had 4 fouls late in the game, but still was aggressive and hungry.

We had a big scorer step up...been missing that most of the year. ...... and going out on a limb...may be a big part of our problem losing games late...not able to close out a game....not always able to deliver that dagger that takes over the game for us.

Nicea has become a force.  All B!G defensive team?

Leigh is on her way to greatness.
