Is this game officially an exhibition game?  It’s what they are calling it over on their twitter feed or are they just calling it that to save some dignity?

No. To me, exhibition means that the stats aren't counted toward the season totals. This game's stats will count. It's just that the result won't be incorporated into ncaa tourney metrics.

The way it was explained in another D1 v D2 regular season game broadcast that I saw a few weeks ago is it is an official game for the D1 team; it counts towards the regular season record and the stats are counted as regular season stats and so on.  But for the D2 team the game is counted as one of their exhibition games.

 

Which makes sense because we've already had our "secret" scrimmage and exhibition games, therefore we have no available slots for exhibition games.
