Throughout our history, Nebraska basketball has been considered an afterthought to Husker fans.  Not to us die-hards, but to the State in general.  In order of importance, it has been Football, Spring Football and then a pick em between Husker Basketball and Volleyball.  Times are a changing.  Football by far is still number one.  Volleyball is certainly supported and talked about, but, Husker Basketball is now in many conversations.

Now to the point.  Many still fear that (because of history) sh** is going to happen this year and we will fall flat.  Everyone has to get that thought or fear out of their ever loving minds.  Husker basketball will be good this year, and the program culture is set to extend the quality of basketball for years to come.  Our mindset must be...this year is going to find great success.  We have on many occasions, had one or two good players on a team and met some success, but things are now different.

I have always said; for a team to be a great team, you need three significant players and then a bunch of good role players.  This team has that.  We are also recruiting with an eye towards that formula for future teams.

In years past, I had rose colored glasses on with the hope that we were going to be successful.  Not this year!  I know we are going to be good.  I know we will be a top tier team.  I know we will make the dance, and I know we will win games in the tournament.  My expectations are set.  I expect to win each and every game, and I will be disappointed with any loss.  ANY LOSS.

Have at it!

Had a conversation with my Dad. He said, "I got some stunned looks and a few laughs because I told some people at work my son thinks Nebraska has a chance for a couple of wins in the tournament and to make the Sweet 16 if things break right."

I said, "I do believe that!"

He said, "You say they can make the tournament every year."

I said, "This years differnt Dad. We're gonna be good. Maybe real good. Maybe better than Piakowski good"

I think our starting 5 will be able to stand toe-to-toe with anyone we play.  I'm only a bit worried about what we can bring off the bench.

I had hoped against hope that Jordy would work hard at developing some post skills, which never materialized.  But he could still come off the bench and fill the lane and put a body on someone like an Isaac Haas. We don't have a big big-man and we don't have size that can come in off the bench.

We can play small ball with a couple of stretch 4s in place of an actual post, but we don't have that beast who can go in and bang and get some boards like a Tyler Cook at Iowa.

I think we can check off all the other items on the list.  But I worry if we have to go up against a team with a mobile, athletic, skilled big man.  Defending the paint is still a concern.

Each of them is able to shoot that well.

Roby and Copeland did it last year; Glynn the year before.  Thomas Allen was close as a freshman.  James Palmer went ice cold over the last several games last year, but prior to his 1-8 performance against Wisconsin, he was shooting over 36% from three (and we know he's been working on his shot).

So, all 5 guys have demonstrated the ability to hit those kinds of numbers.  I think Glynn will have a bounce-back kind of year to what he did as a sophomore, and everyone else is probably going to improve their shooting.  I say probably, because I think it's been a point of emphasis in the off-season.

I could argue that the vast majority of teams in college basketball will struggle with defending a mobile, athletic, skilled big man.  Then again, could that big man cover Roby or Copeland?

Just read/watched a tweet from Nebraska basketball.  Prominently mentioned were Isaac, James, Isaiah, Glynn, Thomas, Brady, Dedoch, Amir and Nana.   I would guess that very well may be our rotation; then again, who really knows.

Leaving Thor and Tanner on the bench. This is what i have came up with except Tanner in place of Brady.

To remind everyone, biggest take-away from playing 2-3 times with Palmer, Amir, Thomas, Nana, Brady, Tanner, etc. is that Palmer put on the best shooting performance I have ever seen. If there was video of him playing that day, all of us would be drooling through our computers.

I, like many of us here, have grown weary of the "when will we win "A" tournament game" talk. That should never be, nor has it been the goal to start a season. If you're not in it to win a Championship, then why even bother to lace em' up? Will I be happy when we do advance? Of course. But it shouldn't be treated like the Holy Grail. I expect us to blow by the that ONE game bench mark and make a deep and meaningful run. Like with my campadre' there on North Hiway 14 says, Cornhuskers win the B1G and after that we're playin' with House money!
