Now to Nebraska, which lost four-star D’Andre Davis. This one isn’t quite as big of a surprise other than it not happening sooner. Davis, who is from Indiana, had committed a year ago while Tim Miles was the coach. A slashing, athletic player, his style of play may not have been the greatest of fits for new coach Fred Hoiberg. With Hoiberg facing a scholarship crunch while trying to rebuild Nebraska in his style, this is probably a case where there aren’t hard feelings on either side. The Huskers get a scholarship and now Davis can go and find a better fit and commit to a coach who actually recruited him.

D Williams fits the Hoiberg system a lot better, so we’re already covered at SG with an athletic outside shooter.  Liked Davis a lot, but this assessment is spot on.

Mading would be an amazing get at the 3-4.  He has kind of a similar game as Davis, but he’s freakin 6’11.” That Turkish kid looks like a very good fit as well.

I agree, but didn't want to post a "eh, we didn't need him anyway" comment. You handled it better than I would have.

Has interest from Louisville, Purdue, and Xavier so seems probable he ends up in the Midwest. Hopefully it's not on a team that plays us.

I'd assume that we're out of the running for his brother.

I am not going to say you are wrong, because I have seen Williams play a number of times, and he is very talented.  But with all due respect, how many times have you seen Davis and Williams play in order to judge who fits the Hoiberg system, which oh by the way, we have not yet witnessed at Nebraska yet.  Meaning, what tweaks and twists will take place with his move to the Big Ten and with the addition of Doc and others?  Just saying...

Seeing who immediately jumped on Davis when he decommitted from us tells me that he is a very talented kid who can fit into various systems.

The narrative that Hoiberg somehow didn’t want a kid that ended up at Louisville and was also offered by Xavier and Purdue almost immediately after he left is extremely faulty to me.

Oh I think Davis is the one who decommitted, to be clear, and I said I liked his film.  But I don’t think it was desperation time to keep him on because we are already guard happy and Davis isn’t a legitimate 3pt threat while Williams wants to live out there (and probably can).

I’ve seen plenty of Hoiberg teams play—enough to know if you’re a 2-3 guard you better be able to stretch the floor all night in his ideal system, particularly in catch and shoot situations in transition.

Davis is probably a better player for most high major teams than whoever we’ll fill his spot with.  I don’t doubt that for a second.  He was a really good get.  But rarely is the slasher also the three point specialist.  I’d take a stretch 4 or a decent center in his spot all day for this class right now.

There is a difference between losing a big recruit and losing a big recruit in a position of need and this was the former. Thing might look real different if Davis (and his brother) end up being NBA players but right now we have a guy in Donovan who on paper is similar in what position Davis was going to play. Instead of having two of those guys in the class of 2020 we're looking at one with the chance to fill in with a necessary post player.  While both Miles and Hoiberg's staffs can/could recruit, Hoiberg has proven to be able to rapidly recruit players. I think all of this goes towards the general lack of fretting over this decommit.

I agree with the lack of fretting. And agree that we were full up on guards and had other areas of greater need.

Still, I wonder if someone got in his ear.

That's a pretty quick turnaround from decommit to recommit, and there's a big part of me that doubts it would have happened had he not had such an impressive summer.

It didn't take him very long to commit to Nebraska after visiting here. We had him figured out before any other Power 5 schools and he pulled the trigger. When he decommitted from us had become a known commodity that schools knew they had missed out on.  On top of you have his brother in 2022 who already has Power 5 offers so schools would still be in contact with the Davis family.

In terms of someone being in his ear, which current coach here was keeping up with Davis? I'd put a lot more weight into Michael Lewis no longer being here as opposed to anyone else pulling him away.

Committed recruits are constantly being contacted and recruited by other schools up until the day they sign their LOI. There’s no doubt that coaches were trying to flip Davis after they saw him this summer. He just wasn’t going to put it out there on social media until he officially de-committed.

His brother decommits from Louisville. Could spell for something for him

Has D'Andre received ample playing time at L'Ville?

**I LOOKED IT UP: Dre has avg. 19.9 min. He shoots 42.7% from the field (20.8% from three) while scoring a total of 222 points (7.4 ppg) and avg. 3.0 reb. He started 23 of his 30 games played.

Sure, he's very athletic; Freddy needs to get on the horn. Although that 20.8% on the 3-ball does give me pause, but it's likely due to small sample size.

It was a bit tongue in cheek because of his 3 point percentage lol.  But athletically I do think he fits.
