More than 1,000 fans show up for first look at Nebraska women's basketball team

It’s a fan base that was rejuvenated after the Huskers won 21 games last season and reached the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Nebraska has already topped the 3,100 season tickets sold last season.

“We need a couple more weeks of practice for sure, no doubt about it,” Williams said after a 20-minute scrimmage that started out slow and then ended up with the Huskers beating a team of their male practice players, 29-21.

“We’ve been working hard all summer to try and become a better rebounding team and then we get up against our scout team sometimes and you can’t see it so much. They’re making some progress, and I think that we’ll just take full advantage of a couple more weeks before we do it for real.”

Here is another little tid-bit from the article:

One of the practice players was Rachel Blackburn, who was on the team the last three seasons, but has medically retired due to chronic knee pain. There is no chance she’ll play this season, Williams said. Blackburn is hoping to get into coaching.  :Mfclap::Mfclap::Mfclap:
