2019 Nebraska baseball

Had heard some rumors of this and now it's official - NU will play two exhibition games at home vs other schools during fall baseball.

Quote

The Nebraska baseball team will host a pair of exhibition scrimmages at Hawks Field this fall.

The Huskers face Wichita State on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 11:30 a.m. (CT). The two teams met in early March last season, with the Shockers taking two of three against the Big Red in Wichita, Kan.

NU squares off against former Big 12 foe Kansas on Saturday, Oct. 6 with the start time to be determined.

These will be before the Red/White scrimmage dates in late October.

(I wonder if they eventually shift the Sept. 22 baseball start time to later in the day with NU-Michigan football now set for 11 a.m.)

NCAA passed a new rule this year allowing up to 2 fall exhibition games without it counting against 56-game limit in the spring.

In the past, the NCAA allowed teams to take up to 4 of those 56 spring games and play them as exhibitions in the fall instead, but they'd count against the 56-game limit. Hardly anyone used it, because everyone wants to try to get 56 games in the spring. This rule is much better.

I see Purdue is playing its 2 exhibitions against junior college teams - that might be a really smart idea going forward for NU baseball for recruiting purposes. Get a talented juco team in here, let them see the facilities, etc.

College Baseball talk in the fall - love it. A few nuggets for those still paying attention

Our 2018 class was rated #16 by D1 baseball - good freaking class.

Top 25 Classes

Erstad still being mentioned for the head job with the Angels - if he threw his name in the hat for the Dodgers you would think he would here as well. One of the few jobs he would consider outside of Nebraska IMO.

Angels Opening

I think he'll likely interview there. He's very well thought of by everyone in Anaheim. It will be interesting the direction the Angels go after 19 years under the direction of a task-master like Mike Scioscia.

It would appear the pipe dream of Erstad taking the Angels job is over. Hopefully he has a plan in place to turn around the Husker program starting this year. Thus far there has been no arm injuries in fall ball that I’m aware of.  That’s a good start.

Ersty didn't even get a look in Anaheim. Angels announced Brad Ausmus on Sunday. BA had been with the Halos this past year as an assistant to the GM.

As far as Nebraseball, I hope they've recruited to fit spots of need. It's been a mishmash for a while.

Saw on the Rivals board one publication has Nebraska #9 in the Big Ten. Obviously pre season predictions don’t mean much but if we miss the Big Ten tournament again....

Of course we all know projections are pretty lame, and at best based on incomplete info.  But we'd better at least finish a little better than that.  Would think Moos would not find two consecutive absents from the B1G Tourney acceptable.

Moos seemed to write off last year's team due to injuries. I don't think he'd take it as well this season.

"The Nebraska baseball team won a Big Ten regular-season conference title in 2017, then struggled in 2018, failing to make the league tournament. Moos wasn’t overly concerned about coach Darin Erstad’s team bouncing back, though, with the return of four pitchers who had been injured. “That’s like losing your quarterback or your point guard,” Moos said. “Darin and his staff were trying to piece it together and get through the year.” Moos said Erstad is “very excited” about the 2019 season."
