would have been nice to have him, but he's simply not that good. he's delano banton but 4 inches shorter.

Eeessh... You guys are killing me with these comparisons, I couldn't disagree more.

HS woulda made us GO next year. Perfect for getting up and going, and perfect for being unselfish in the half-court to get KT and JL looks.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I don't really care we missed on him. After having a year with a Nebraska kid that bleeds Huskers red I don't really have a palate for Nebraska kids that have to be coaxed here.

Agree with this, but it sounds like it's more some members of his immediate family who needed to be convinced that Nebraska is a good place to be.

I wanted Hunter to be a Husker, but not because he grew up in Omaha. Simply because of how our roster is currently constructed.

I want Tominaga and Lawrence to be on the court - off the ball -  together. A lot next year. Like Griesel, Hunter would've allowed us to do that. I'm telling you, the way guys like JL and KT play strikes more fear into opposing coaches (yes, I said that) than any 7 footer does. Relentless off-ball movement, combined with absurd confidence and legit skill level. It's a nightmare to try to get defenders to stay disciplined and chase two of them around for 28+ minutes. At times last year it reminded me of watching NBA defenders trying to chase around Steph and Klay. Neither are particularly athletic, but they have that innate feel of angles, changing speeds, changing directions. And ridiculous confidence.

I think having a bigger, longer guard would also give you the ability to play Williams at the "4" which would be great for spacing. Like a better version of CJ the last 1/3 of this past season.

Maybe Ramel will end up being our point guard and allow all of this to happen. I'd be ok with that. But having an unselfish, athletic 6'5" lead guard who's a bulldog on defense would've been great for this team IMO.

End of rant. For now

I wish he came I suppose but I wasn’t checking news every five minutes like on Williams.  As we saw last year, it is a fine line to walk if you have perimeter guys that struggle to shoot.

there's no doubt he can be a good role player but if anyone thought he could come here and be the #1 option then you need to go look at his offensive numbers. he can't shoot or pass. good defender though and ok at driving to the hoop.

The pressure on Sallis to succeed here is more than it is at Wake. Probably the most pressure a Nebraska player would have ever had. Someone who was confidence in their game would not have cared. No pressure, no diamonds. Thank you next.

If by “Nebraska player” you mean from the state of Nebraska, I’d say you’re correct.  But if you mean Nebraska’s program— I’d give the title of most pressure to Bryce.  After seeing what happened with him, I think most fans are going to be more lenient to high level talent right from the get go.

If we had the defensive schemes in place that Nate and Howard implemented things would have went much differently.  That is on Fred.  He waited too long to turn it over from Doc to Nate.

That is a great point.  Honestly, Doc was dead weight the entire time he was here. Makes you wonder what things would/could have been like if Nate was 2nd in command the entire time.  He is worth every dollar NU is paying him.

Doc at least was an active participant in practice, unlike Matt

and he and Armon weren’t allowed to coach how they wanted to until Matt was gone.  We played pretty well after Matt left.

Oklahoma will be interesting to watch this season.

That said, Fred brought in some absolute masterminds and I give him full credit for that.

I feel there is a lot of negative talk about Doc.  Personally— I like Doc and don’t think he was the main problem.  We had a lot of other issues outside of a defensive scheme— especially since that scheme works best with absolute effort, hustle, and buy in… which we didn’t have.

There’s a reason Doc is still in the business and it isn’t because he’s “dead weight” as much as some on here like to think he was.  We had bigger problems outside of Doc and him not being here from the beginning wasn’t going to change how things have gone so far.

Hunter was 11 of 20 (3 of 8 from three) and 2 of 4 from the line, in 39 minutes, with 4 fouls, 2 assists, 3 turnovers and 4 rebounds.  The other volume scorer had 18 shots.  Frederickson was 2 of 7–all from three, 1 assist, 2 turnovers, in 31 minutes.

Hunter had 27 points in an exhibition game against Alabama. Gonna have a big year. Other starters in that game included Parker Friedrichsen, Grant Nelson and Latrell Wrightsell.

I will be cheering for him to do well but will be surprised if he turns into an efficient scorer if he’s taking that many shots a game. Played some pick up games with him this summer and his shot is still pretty inconsistent. Very athletic and could be a defensive stopper if he commits to it.

Latrell had a good game for Alabama: 28 minutes, 3-5 shooting (2-2 from 3), 0-1 from the line, for 8 points; 4 rebounds, 3 fouls, 4 assists, 1 turnover and 2 steals.

Grant: 28 minutes, 4-11 shooting (2-5 from 3), 1-1 from the line, for 11 points; 3 rebounds, 5 fouls, 1 assist, 3 turnovers.  And he finished with a +/- of -16.

Also, Wake Forest had 4 players with >30 minutes, while Alabama had none: other than Latrell and Grant at 28 minutes each, only one other Alabama player had >25 minutes.

Sallis was involved in an on court scuffle at the end of the NC ST game tonight.  He was ultimately issued a double tech and ejected from the game.  Overall, the game had 8 total techs.

Wake lost to NC ST 83-76.
