FBI Ramification

Recommended Posts

i have been watching some of the pundits talk about the ramifications of Louisville vacating their championship...and how those players that played Know they won the game and should not be punished.

It kind of makes me mad, when they only "vacate" and not forfeit these games....one, now there is no winner. Two, if a team changed the scorebook to make the final score 50-47 win instead of a 50-53 loss, that kind of cheating would be fixed and the team that initially lost, would be given the win.

The other thing that drives me crazy is they talk about how the Louisville players are affected....Well, what about Middle Tennessee...they were deprived of an NCAA tourney bid because Louisville participated (and now it is obvious they shouldn't have been in the tourney) as they were using ineligble player...The players on the First team out (i think was MTSU in 2013)  are much more affected than those on the team that had wins vacated.

Its like winning a Texas holdem tournament by using marked cards, but after the fact you are caught...yet you lose the winnings, but nobody else gets some of their money back from being cheated....it just goes to the Casino.

It's incredibly lame, and discouraging to see that people get away with this cheating on such a large scale, and for decades and decades. All I can think of is as I'm reminded of blue chips, which I recently re watched.

It's disgusting. I'm glad there's some progress, but the ramifications should definitely be more serious, to your point; not just a slap on the wrist. These assholes need to get what's (been) coming to them.  I find it funny how theyre focusing on a select few who have enough solid evidence to peg them, like Louisville and Arizona. We know that there are many, many more to more or lesser extent. And It really makes me mad when schools like zona are so proud and defiant that they refuse to admit anything, and "stand by their man", Sean Miller not admitting anything and acting all surprised and offended that anyone would dare suggest he's do such a "heinous" thing.

?

Let justice be done, let the evil be punished, I say.

There should definitely be some additional punishment for the Louisville case.  As it stands now, Cardinal basketball got the same punishment as Notre Dame football from '11-'12, and for a far worse crime.  Notre Dame's cheating was that a student who helped out part-time with the football team wrote papers for a couple of the players.  And that was deemed worthy of vacating 20+ wins in football.  And yet somehow the Pitino shenanigans get the same punishment?  Makes no sense.  In ND's case a couple of kids' stupidity vacated two seasons of wins for an infraction that the coaches had no knowledge of.  In Louisville's case the coaches were encouraging recruiting violations and completely violated all sorts of competitive and ethical boundaries.   Yet same punishment.  Ludicrous!

It is important to note  that the NCAA makes a lot of money.  I believe a lot of that money makes its way back to the various schools.  Money can cause many people to take the wrong turn even if correct options are available.  With all the revenue, why can't more money be focused on compliance?  Everyone "assumes" that a number of coaches and/or teams cheat to win.  But penalties are so rare, it can lead one to believe that cheating really doesn't occur.

Outside agencies tend to be the identifier of big problems.  This then creates suspicion as to what really occurs inside the NCAA compliance office.  Can one speculate that some NCAA compliance officers are getting paid under the table to let cheating slide???

Cheaters Cheat....?

Can't get the tweet to load but per Dan Wetzel...jurors were given a list of schools that will come up during the trial which includes Arizona, Louisville, NC St, Miami, LSU, Oregon, DePaul, CREIGHTON, Texas, Oklahoma St, USC.

?

How much more money or political power did Kansas have that these other schools didn't have to pay someone off? ?

HAHAHA please please let Creighton have paid for players.

It's pretty obvious they were in a bidding war for Bowen (along with Louisville, Texas, Oregon and DePaul).  Could Brian Bowen have been an FBI Trojan horse all along?

...something something Icarus something...

I'm not gonna glory in CU being implicated in something like this. That's the point where something embarrassing or nefarious comes out about one of the teams I cheer for.

I'm with you.  My post was not intended to be a gloat or anything (sorry if it was interpreted that way).  It was only my expression of how clearly the recruitment of one individual appears to have impacted the case.

What I did find interesting is that if indeed Bowen figures centrally here, why wasn't MSU listed in the group of schools in Wetzel's tweet?
