  • Louisiana – Sun Belt
  • Mid Tenn St – Conf USA
  • Montana – Big Sky
  • New Mexico St – WAC
  • Nicholls – Southland
  • Penn – Ivy
  • Savannah St – MEAC
  • SE Louisiana – Southland
  • UC Davis – Big West
  • Vermont – America East
  • Arkansas-PB – SWAC ?? (they finished 2nd to Grambling, but Grambling is not eligible for postseason play, so I'm not sure if APB becomes a potential NIT qualifier or if the SWAC just loses its potential slot)

And I have no problem with the NCAA guaranteeing these one-bid league regular season champions a spot in the NIT, but this is why it's hard to even get in the NIT anymore. Between 16 and 18 spots in the 32-team field are taken, assuming all of these teams accept their bids. I would imagine Maryland may not even get a bid now. And Penn St is probably in the NIT, but not a sure thing.

I'm assuming Nevada and Rhode Island (should they not rally vs Davidson) would receive at-large NCAA bids, but they'd also be eligible here if they don't receive NCAA bids, so it's possible you could have 20 auto bids to the NIT with only 12 at large bids.

  • ?? Arkansas-PB – SWAC (RPI 307) (APB finished 2nd to Grambling, but Grambling is not eligible for postseason play, so I'm not sure if APB becomes a potential NIT qualifier or if the SWAC just loses its potential slot - plus they're sub .500 so might not be eligible)

Actually the 10 minute quaters make the game shorter, with only one break at the under 5 minute mark. but I don't like the two foul shot rule. It puts a bad FT shooting team on equal terms with good shooting ones so to speak.

Mississippi State is a poor FT shooting team

Not that any of this will effect us this year while we are in the dance but the NIT is trying out some new rules that might be introduced into the NCAA next year if it goes well in the NIT. Some are interesting.

In theory a longer 3pt line will benefit a better shooting team. Check to us vs Mississippi St.

What type of team does a wider FT lane benefit?

Does the FTs after the 5th foul hurt or benefit a team that gets to the FT line more?  I would think it would hurt that team.

It's sad that I've seen all of these teams play this season except maybe Wagner and SE Louisiana.

I don’t understand the wider lane unless you are going to adopt defensive 3 seconds also. Because without that you’re just making it tougher for offensive bigs.

Probably benefits Miss St here as they have more dudes who take the ball into the lane than we do.

I can see augmenting one of these for the NIT to evaluate the effect upon the flow, time, and scoring of the game. Giving the already shaky referees four more things to keep in mind at once is begging for an even more poorly officiated game than usual. So, BOOM, let's see how this goes.

Are you predicting Tom Eades will be officiating tomorrow night's NU vs MSU ballgame?

12 19+ win power 5 schools in the NIT this year - Including Louisville (2015 Elite 8),  Oregon (2017 Final 4), Baylor (2017 Sweet 16),  Notre Dame (2016 Elite 8), Utah (2015 Sweet 16). Now that the initial sting is gone for me, I am kind of excited for this - could be extremely valuable experience for next year against teams that are proven in March.

Yep.  It's definitely the strongest group of NIT teams I can ever remember seeing, which probably means the NCAA selection was a complete joke.  There were also teams that turned it down.  Crazy.

If the rules for n the free throw is the same as in the women's games. The freethrows are 2 shots no matter what. Is I go back to if Mississippi State is bad at freethrows it helps them in at least getting 1 pt. Scored.

If we win some of these games and since it is technically 2018 can we role over the Q1/Q2 wins to next season that way we can have 2+ Q1/Q2 wins under our belt before the season ever starts. Never to early to start collecting those ever so valuable metrics.

TBH it would help our computer ratings to start the season
