B1G Tournament Bracketology

it's not like div two teams are just sitting around waiting for people to call and schedule them. they have leagues of their own to chase, and I can't imagine at this time of year it would be in their interest to serve as practice fodder for a P5 team.

Delany's just being Delany--his job is to make money however he can. The sports part of it is remotely secondary.

Ticket sales at this event in terms of revenue for the conference are irrelevant. TV and media rights are what drive revenue and this is about expanding the footprint of the B1G and it's TV network.

I found this comment interesting as I never considered us taking on an exhibition opponent at this point...I don't know if this is something we still could do even if we wanted to.

“It’s interesting,” Delany said. “Nobody has chosen to schedule a Division II or III game in that period. That’s a little indication that they don’t want that or need that. There are positives and negatives (to the gap). Teams can rest up, put new things in and practice more. If we do well (in the tournament), everyone will be OK with it.”

That is the dumbest comment I have heard in my life.  Division II and III teams are playing in their conference tournaments or the national tournament.   Plus, you probably need a waiver from the NCAA to schedule an exhibition game.

That's just Delaney trying to appease the casual college basketball fan.  He's trying to deflect the blame away from him for a stupid idea.  Coaches, players, fans, and media could tell him it was a bad idea.

A hypothetical question...
Let's assume we wind up the 4, and Michigan is the 5. But then, if Michigan gets upset by the 12/13, and that's who we get instead, so no opportunity for another Tier 1 game...would us winning THAT game be enough for the folks who say we need one in NYC? It's an outside chance, sure, but still a possibility.

This could drop the game we already beat them from tier 1. That would just throw salt in the wound.

Point spreads for Sunday's games:

Mich St (-7.5) at Wisconsin

Illinois at Rutgers (-1)

Minnesota at Purdue (-18)

Penn St (-1.5) at Nebraska (opened at Pick-em)

NW at Iowa (-3)

That's really strange.  Was Watkins officially declared out prior to the line opening up?  I would think that his injury announcement alone should be worth 3+ points...so does that mean we'd potentially be around a 5 point dog at home if he was playing?  I know Vegas hasn't liked us all year, but this one is a particular head scratcher.

Just another #BetTheSkers week.  Nothing new.

It appears to me that if we win today will play Michigan in the Thurs 1:30 game, if we lose we play Illinois in the 1:30 Wednesday game and Michigan in the Thursday game. If we beat Michigan again, we play Michigan State in the Saturday 7;00 game. IMHO despite the opinion of Mr. Loonari and his ilk, we make the dance if we reach the Saturday game. I realize there are other possibilities, but these are the most likely scenarios.

If we are the #4 seed, we will play Friday 25 minutes after the conclusion of the 11AM game. Friday, March 2nd would be our first game. So probably 1:30ish on Friday.

Illiinois has our number this year, don't want to meet them on neutral court.

I like our match-up with Michigan, better than Illinois.   Illinois is much more aggressive and bothersome on defense.  Indiana and at times Penn State also gave us fits with their aggressive defense.  Michigan doesn't seem to play that way.  If we face Michigan,  the key will be our 3 point defense.  If we can shut them down from 3, we should be able to win.
