With our next win

So, 5 games left with 4 at home.  NU sits at 18-8 (9-4).  With one more win, they will clinch a winning conference record.  That is RARE for NU BB.  Previous winning conference records in the last 35 seasons:

2013-14 (Big Ten): 11-7 [Made NCAA tourney]
1998-99 (Big 12): 10-6 [Made NIT]
1997-98 (Big 12): 10-6 [Made NCAA tourney]
1992-93 (Big 8): 8-6 [Made NCAA tourney]
1990-91 (Big 8): 9-5 [Made NCAA tourney]
1985-96 (Big 8): 8-6 [Made NCAA tourney]

The point is, this doesn't happen very often around here.  And when it has...it has usually led to NCAA berths. Lets hope that continues.

As with any statistics, it's important to understand the full picture. Just to add some more clarity:

2017-2018: 18 conference games + TBD conference tourney games (69%, TBD% including tourney)

2013-2014: 18 + 1 (61%, 58%)

1998-1999: 16 + 2 (63%, 61%)

1997-1998: 16 + 2 (63%, 61%)

1992-1993: 14 + 1 (57%, 53%)

1990-1991: 14 + 3 (64%, 65%)

1985-1986: 14 + 2 (57%, 56%)

How many seasons is NU at .500 in that same time-frame?

I found the info I was looking for. If anyone is interested, here goes:

2017-18 (Big Ten): *9-4 [guaranteed at least .500]
2008-09 (Big 12): 8-8 [Made NIT]
1993-94 (Big 8): 7-7 [Won Big 8 tourney to be auto qualifier for NCAA tourney]
1991-92 (Big 8): 7-7 [Made NCAA tourney]

1986-87 (Big 8): 7-7 [NIT 3rd place]

So, '87, '92, and '94 all followed a winning conference season resulting in an NCAA appearance (with the latter two years also making the Big Dance).
