Washington State's Bill Moos named next NU athletic director

Quote

LINCOLN — Bill Moos, the current athletic director at Washington State, has been hired as Nebraska's next athletic director, Chancellor Ronnie Green announced Sunday.

Moos signed a five-year contract with Nebraska with a base salary of $1 million, plus incentives. Moos will officially begin his tenure with Nebraska on Oct. 23.

“Nebraska has secured a proven winner in Bill Moos to lead Husker Athletics into a new era of excellence,” Green said in a press release. “It was clear that Bill stood out in a very competitive, tremendously gifted pool of candidates, not only because of his proven ability to lead programs to greatness, but because of his reputation for integrity in building and leading those programs.”

If you follow on tweeter they say not a good hire. Also the LJS is running a poll and it is not good as well.

Mixed reactions on twitter right now.  National guys are split.  Local guys are split with leaning towards good from what I have seen now.  Will be interesting.  He owns a cattle ranch so we have that going for us!

The reaction in the athletic director community to Bill Moos' hiring is definitely one of surprise. Most ADs expected Moos, 66, to retire at Washington State. Some think Moos is a good hire while others said the move reflects a process where Nebraska didn't get its top choices to replace Shawn Eichorst. ,

Bill Moos' decision to leave as the athletic director at Washington State for Nebraska is a direct result of growing friction between him/the WSU athletic department and university president Kirk Schulz, who arrived from Kansas State in June 2016. Moos twice asked for a contract extension and was rebuffed both times, according to multiple sources. Said one: "Kirk Schulz has been awful for athletics. Since he arrived, it has been tense and awkward and difficult."

So, on the one hand, seems we hired the Mike Riley of athletic directors.

On the other hand, seems people locally and around the county are slightly more positive about the hire than they were about Eichorst (WTF?)
