Whats Marquette? They killed Wisconsin on the road in non con and just killed Seton Hall at home. That's a team that takes an 11 seed at large from us if they stay hot. We need to keep winning and those middle tier teams to not have big wins. I'm paranoid this season but it's better than knowing we have no chance

Marquette is number 38... We are 81

We win and stay in the same spot, Wisconsin loses and they move up a few spots.  Also LOLwa is 0-5 and is still ahead of 3-2 Indiana.  Here is today's KenPom update:

The reason that 3-2 Indiana is behind 0-5 Iowa is that Indiana is 0-2 against #160 Ft. Wayne and #167 Indiana State.

Those losses also help kill the league's standing vis-à-vis other leagues and work against the number of teams from the B1G getting into the dance.

Can someone with a membership look at the league teams and tell us the worst 2-3 losses for each team?

TIA

Just a quick dig: Illinois has 7 losses; 4 are to league foes; the other three are to Kenpom #s 70, 73, and 82.  The league losses are to #s 30, 35, 48 and 71.

So, while Illinois is down near Iowa in the Kenpoms, they don't have a bad loss on the season.  They just don't have any decent wins.  And neither, at this point, do we.

Okay @Norm Peterson I'll take that challenge on.  (BTW, you can go over to Bart Torvik's site and get pretty much identical data for free if you want to do it yourself). :)

Worst 2 (or 3 or 4) non-con losses for each B1G team:

2. Michigan State - #6 Duke

4. Purdue - #15 Tennessee, #59 Western Kentucky (Both Neutral sites)

30. Michigan - #10 @North Carolina, #67 LSU (Neutral)
33. Ohio State - #8 Gonzaga, #10 North Carolina, #17 Clemson, #41 Butler (Clemson at home the rest Neutral)

48. Minnesota - #26 Miami, #27 @Arkansas

Thanks @49r.  I think that pretty much clears up any mystery as to why IU is behind Iowa in the Kenpom rankings.

Even though some of these league teams are still salty enough to beat nearly any other league opponent on any given night, it's some of those bad non-conference losses (looking at you, Rutgers and Indiana) that are dragging the whole league down.

Real Time RPI has us going 19-12.  Win the rest of home games and lose the away games.

The good— we’re 6th in the conference in RPI.

The bad- we’re #73 RPI meaning there is 8 teams below #73 RPI.

We move up despite the loss, starting to get closer to the middle 6 than the bottom 4 now.  Also, look at Ohio State moving from the #33 to #18, wow.  Here is today's KenPom update:

We dropped 11 spots tonight?  ELEVEN?  Wow.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I got that #75 ranking for NU, it had to be some weird one day anomaly or something. We were #81 for the PSU game and #81 for the Illinois game, so in reality we only dropped 5 spots.

Bracketmatrix showing 5 B10 (Purdue, MSU, Michigan, OSU and Maryland) teams in the tournament with Penn St. and Minnesota now getting play on some brackets. Next 3 games are big for Huskers. Going 1-2 would probably have a slight negative impact. So need to get at least 2 of the 3 in my opinion.

We're in a lot of peoples "Others Considered" portion, but we need that one or two wins to put us over the hump.  Going 3-1 in the next 4 would help.  Going 4-0 in the next 4 would be fantastic.

Beating Maryland is important because it's a home game we should win, but it could also be the difference between us and them if either team gets that far.

The end of a season is always more important than the beginning--in every sport.  Over the rest of this basketball season, some of the highly-regarded teams will fall off the radar and lesser-ones will rise.

Most years, Nebrasketball deals at this time with injuries on a shallow roster that torpedo our season.

This year, it looks like we've dodged a bullet on the injury front . . . so far -- and Jordy's issue (which undoubtedly cost us the Penn St. game--and almost the Illinois game) is deferred to the end of this season.  If such good fortune and good depth continues, odds are good for a last-half-season surge for Nebrasketball.  Here's hoping for the best!!

The Michigan game is actually game 5 of the 3rd to last set of 5 games in the regular season.  We need to win it to have legit NCAA aspirations.

The next 5 games after that I think will be tough.  I think we need to get 2 wins in the @OSU, @Rutgers, Iowa, @Wisconsin, @Minnesota stretch.  Most likely wins would be @Rutgers and home vs. Iowa.  Lose either of those games and it's a bad loss.  Question is can we sneak a win somewhere else?  If we beat Rutgers on the road and Iowa at home, we only keep our NCAA hopes alive, we don't really improve them.  A win on the road at Ohio State, though, as unlikely as that might be, would really elevate our standing and put us squarely in the discussion provided we take care of business in those other two games.

The final 5 games of the regular season are all winnable.  All of them.  And we can ill-afford to drop any of them in order to maintain our NCAA hopes.  Only if we beat Ohio State on the road can we afford to drop one to Illinois in Champagne in that last stretch.  Otherwise, we host Rutgers, Maryland, Indiana and Penn State.  We cannot lose any of those games.

So, there you have it.  That's the blueprint.

What happened to the 4th game!  ;)
