The Welsh-Ryan renovation webcam has been down for about a month, but I checked today and it's back up, they've been making quite a bit of progress and I gotta say it's shaping up real nice!

Looks like it's better than a H.S. gymnasium (finally).

Northwestern's been very coy about their arena renovation, they took down the live webcam over the summer and haven't posted any photos anywhere on the progress since then.  Anticipation is high in Wildcat land to the degree that their exhibition game tonight is now officially a sellout.  Hopefully there will be plenty of photos of the final result available over the weekend.

Interesting. They've certainly spent a pile of cash on a relic. Makes me think that Collins is trying to amp his own Cameron Crazy experience. We'll see...

I don't think it's Collins per se, I believe it's a very concerted effort by the university to upgrade all its sports facilities to world-class level.  (And they're doing a very good job of it too if you ask me)

The thought of a top-10 university in a cosmopolitan city such as Chicago making a very strong push to now also forge a first class athletics department is a little scary to me.  If they get it rolling I envision the place becoming a juggernaut on level with Michigan and Ohio State.  IMO, the struggle for relevance in the Big Ten for Nebraska is already big enough as it is, we don't need Northwestern to provide another road block on that path.

Except no one in Chicago pays attention to Northwestern. It's all Bears, Bulls, & Blackhawks there.

Texas plans to build 300 million dollar arena to replace the 41 yr old Frank Erwin center. the new arena will be built acroos from the football stadium.

The new arena comes with inflatable seats that can be engaged (making it look like the arena actually has butts in the seats) once a game is about to begin.  The blow ups will have a burnt orange appearance and some will have cowboy hats.  Texas researchers have been attempting to build these faux fans for about 20 years and finally succeeded.

This was an early prototype:

It appears it will be built as primarily a concert venue with its secondary purpose being a basketball arena.

Matthew McConaughey will act as the “Minister of Culture” at the venue, ensuring that Longhorn and Austin cultures are front and center and helping create a fan experience unlike any other.  When asked how he felt about taking on the added responsibilities of minister of culture for the new venue, McConaughey replied, "All right all right all right!"

No word was given on the importance of the role High School chicks will play in the new venture.
