I went to the men's game last night and when we got to the arena we had the Husker women's game on the radio and we were behind 13-3 I thought at the time we could easily erase that deficit and manage to come away with the win. I decide before I would comment on this game here I would watch it first in it's entirety, which I actually didn't get tot do as by the time we got out of the parking garage and back home it was going on 11:45 and I had some other things I needed to get done before we shut the lights out. I finally got to watch the game this afternoon.

It was not at all how I envisioned it to play out at all after we got behind by 10 early and was surprised the Huskers performed the way they did from there on out. I decided I wouldn't come on here after watching it and complain about some player not doing this or not doing that, but instead sit back and read what others have said as I thought probably at times the banter would not be pleasant at various times. So I logged on just now and read the comments.

My thoughts are as Husker fans we are used to seeing in the past 110% effort, 110%, hustle, 110%  competiveness and a 110% winning attitude in each game we played the past 10 years or so. So we've become a little on edge when we don't see the same production we've seen in past years.

We're Husker fans though. We're going to support our Huskers no matter which sport and no matter how they're performing. That's just what Husker fans do. We don't jump off the bandwagon after a down year, if that would be the case I probably would have jumped off in the early to mid 90's.

In 2003 dollar Bill Byrne more-less fired Paul Sanderford and hired of all coaches the Creighton coach Connie Yori. I hated this hire at the time as I thought he could get someone with a lot better credentials than a Creighton coach.

When she was hired there was all sorts of attrition Our best instate recruit ever at the time Katie Robbinette transferred to Iowa St, Shannan Howell went on to Oregon St an wound up with a great career for the Beavers, Paige Sutton quit the team because she knew that she wouldn't be able to park her butt behind the three point line and not pay defense or rebound like she should have done from the get go. But players like Jina Johansen, Alexa Johnson and Margaret Richards stayed and became huge Husker fans favorites even though wins were few.

The first year of the Yori regime went almost exactly how it's going this year. Slowly but surely though as the years went, by you could actually see this team starting to come together. So one thing the Yori early years taught us or me anyway that we need to be patient as Husker fans.  The similarities right now are eerily alike as I reminisce.

Yori had assistants come and go the first few years until she finally got some continuity in the staff and things began to take off. It took her basically seven years to get that unbelievably 32-0 undefeated regular season and our first Sweet 16 appearance. And from that season expectations sky rocketed. Her last years were some of the best we've ever had and we as a fan base seen the influx of thousands of new fans with the results we were producing.

Now hearken back to this season it's basically the same situation that Yori received when she got the gig in 2003. Us die-hards withstood those early hardships and it paid off for us in the long run.

I actually think this season is what most of us expected but not what we wanted to see. We as a fan base proved once we had what it took to weather the ups and downs, and now's not much different. Sure we're going to loose some fans with how the season's going now if we haven't all ready, but in the meantime let's give the new coach the same support we gave Yori and good things will surely return.

I'm hoping once Coach Williams get's the parts she wants in line, be it different coaches, players or other personal for the program that the Huskers will get back to where we've been used to seeing this program the past several years.

Until that time, I ain't going no where and avidly look forward to witness just how good we can become under the new regime.

Exactly.  I don't think anyone here is ready to toss in the towel on the coaches....or players.  Like I've said a couple of times before....patience....patience

Adding a line.....the players...tend to believe their rough spots in play is more inexperience than anything else.

Many of the challenges facing the Womens BB program are in the previous posts.  If Coach Williams and her staff  are going to be successful and if they are good coaches, they need a huge successful effort on the recruiting front.  So far Kissinger, the two transfers, and the NW Iowa young lady are all we hearing of recruits.  We are about to enter the second year of recruiting for the new staff, and typically a new set of coaches need to be very successful in the first two or three years.  I would feel  a lot better about the WBB program if people closer to the program can give us some insight of the staffs efforts in recruiting.  In previous years this site has been my only source of recruiting information..  Our WBB fan support is very strong and it needs positive information.

First thank you for the picture of Anna, she is actually the reason I started watching the women's team.

I will disagree with your assessment though.  I did not expect to see many w's, I did not expect to see a complete lack of effort.  They remind me more of Sanderford's last year, when they completely threw in the towel, than Connie's first year.  Margret and played their butt' s off.  I probably would have been happier pulling any 8 off the pep band if they played hard.  It's hard to park your back side in a seat.  With family members have maladies such as dementia and Parkinson's, I can honestly say it takes us more effort to get seated than they play with.  Never the less we still fill the seats as long as we are able. GBR.

I am a supporter of the NU program.  It angers me that events that I am still unsure about have led to the current situation.  That being said, I don't expect any victories the rest of the year but I do expect to see some pride and effort put forth every time out.  If s player cannot do that, then don't put the uniform on.

Coach Williams has a difficult task in facing her and the staff.  The B1G has quality throughout the conference and we have to get more athletic if we expect to eventually challenge Maryland and Ohio State.

huskers MAY have a shot with indiana being at PBA------but, yup, going to take a huge effort to find a w down the final stretch. at the beginning of the year, i was hoping the huskers would show some competitiveness and pull out maybe 4-5 conference wins. i thought that could really help along the lines of recruiting-------but, wow, it's going to be a longer climb up from the basement than i imagined.

It didn't take long to get there, Thanks SE.

It's kind of hard to realize there's only 4 or 5 games left for the year probably. It's gone pretty quick.

While the wins are few and far between, it's still been real interesting to watch players get better, and the crowds still shown up to the games to support the team.  The old adage....there's only one way to go and that's up....but next year will be a much different team...and unless my thinking is completely haywire...we'll be another step up in our journey to regain some ground as a program.

No idea what may occur recruiting wise this off season, or the make up of the team. Like said a dozen times...hope Rachel will be OK and ready to go next year. Certainly saw what it was like with her needed piece of the puzzle.. of leadership.

Maybe the team needs as a break (even though we're not to the season end yet) to regroup and rest and take some time to reflect, and gear up for summer work... although a long way away....for the next season.

We graduate two. To add for next year ...not positive, but that would be to add a transfer(s), or some late de-commit from somewhere.  Coach said at one time there's only going to be Taylor K in 2017....but there's room for more.... numbers wise on the team. Even with the current two transfers we've red shirted for next year.  There still is room for about 2 more, but it sounds like the staff is working more toward filling out the 2018 class.

This is all speculation obviously, but maybe Coach doesn't want to add too many in every class so quick...rather selectively recruiting each year going forward. We have one commitment now for 2018 of course. (coming to UNL when Coach did, she basically lost the chance to recruit for 2016.)

Coach Amy had full roster's previously, so may end eventually with a full 15 here too. The way she substitutes...the large roster works.

My previously posted comment about recruiting, is directed to WHO we might get for 2018 and going forward.

We're allowed 15 scholarships and as of today we have 14 in use. Now subtract this year's two seniors from next year's total which makes it 12, Taylor Kissinger will get a scholarship next year so we're back down to two open scholarships for next season which makes the total for next season 13 players on scholarship. So, like redsteve says we should have two available scholarships for next year.

Could there be more available?....That all depends if there's any attrition among the team's underclassmen after this season ends.

I also agree with redsteve when he says the coaches are wanting to fill out the 2018 class with new blood as a first priority, but would think, should a 4 or 5 star transfer want to join up this off season the coaches will certainly take a look at that possibility.

I think that unless Riley C.J. goes from walk-on to receiving a scholarship we have 3 available for 2017.  I think we really need to add an experienced post for this coming year.  Maybe a graduate transfer or J.C. player that could help provide depth for a year.  With Rachael B. coming off surgery, Darrien W. playing somewhat inconsistent and Grace M. playing out of position we have major depth issues there.

I am under the impression the Rylie Casio-Jensen is receiving a scholarship.  I don't know who  Riley C.J. is.

Given the lack of post depth I have been surprised we haven't heard of any efforts made to get a juco or spring high school signee.   We need players, and need them asap.

If we are going to talk about Rylie and scholarships then I guess I will put in my two cents. Not only have we used her a lot this year, we have NEEDED to use her  a lot this year.  Therefore, I think it's terrible that she is not on scholarship. I didn't know, until right after the Penn State game, that she was still not on scholarship.  This kind of made me a little disappointed in the coaching staff. Especially because they have two just sitting there going to waste. Just like the football team does, the coaches could have put her on scholarship this year and told her that it's not guaranteed for next year.

Well I was told that when Kathleen Doyle de-committed that Rylie was to go on scholarship.  Coaches reneged I guess

Judging by your response to HUD, I'm under the impression you knew exactly who he was talking about, just like the rest of the Husker wbb fans who frequent this forum.

i am going to assume coach williams will have her "call-in" show tonight (Tuesday)------------maybe someone will call in and ask her about the situation with RCJ?

It's been scheduled for tomorrow night (Wednesday) from 7:00 - 8:00 since all Husker Sports radio affiliates are carrying the men's game tonight.

I don't have any respect for someone who cannot correctly spell names of the team members.  That is basic.  If you are not sure, look it up, as I did.
