Pregame Discussion: Iowa (9-6) vs. Nebraska (8-6) - 1/05/17

Guys, all of a sudden we have a HUGE home game to talk about at the beginning of January.  I figured this merits a pregame discussion thread.  Man, am I pumped!

 

So, let's get it started.  Here's a little bit of the skinny on Iowa, they have a couple of huge home wins vs Iowa State and Michigan:

I just hope Jok doesn't go off for 7 3-pointers and something like 26 points. We'd never be able to recover from someone having a game like that, right?

20+ from Watson and Tai.  Double-double's from Morrow and Jacobsen. Solid play from Roby, Horne, Taylor, and Jordy.  Maybe some 3's from McVeigh  = WIN

 

Easy right?

 

I second the motion for a big, loud, crowd Thursday.

They have a very good offense lead by Mr. Jok.  It is Iowa, it will likely be a very close game where a couple plays, a couple shots and a couple breaks will make the difference.

I want to see a crowd of 15,000+ folks that went down to the Railyard straight after work on Thursday and drank Longwell's dry before the game!

i'm just glad we have something to play for now. could have easily lost to indiana and maryland and been 6-8 with virtually no shot at postseason play.

He's never had great games against us but he hasn't had to. To me it's about slowing him down as much as you can with one guy as he's going to score in double digits.

Slowing down their freshman PG Jordan Bohannon will go a long way.

 

These guys are dangerous because they can shoot you out of the game and you can't count on getting to the FT line on them

That's been our M.O.  these last two wins.  Everybody has contributed.

I am pumped to go to the game! I didn't think I would see another meaningful game in Lincoln this season.

I hate to say this...but without the students in the house, I am concerned about the crowd.  I believe the team will need to generate the excitement in order to whip up the fans versus the crowd pumping up the team.  I will promise you this, I will do my part!

I assume Tai or ET guards Jok, no?  He's a LONG 6'6" though.  Roby might get the call.  Really tough matchup there.  

 

Beyond the SF, I like us at PG, SG, and whatever position Morrow is playing.  

 

Iowa looked very formidable in beating Michigan today.  It'll be a major challenge.

As I look at the standings I see that Iowa is 6-4 their last 10 games but something else that is interesting is this.

 

8-2   home games

 

0-2   away games

 

1-2  neutral 

 

So they seem to 1) not win on the road YET this year much.  2) not play play on the road much at all

He's not a tall, lanky, goofy white boy, so he shouldn't be a problem.

 

Nicholas Baer (sp?) is the one to worry about.

Let me just say these last two road wins won't mean much if we drop either of the next two games at home.  We need to be 4-0 headed into Michigan.

The last time Iowa was here was 2 years ago where we basically curled up into a ball and died.

The 74-46 score makes the game seem closer than it was. We need some payback.
