Huskerpapa Posted November 18, 2016 Report Posted November 18, 2016 (edited) I know, I know, this game is 3 weeks away. But I came across this article and it kind of made me smile a bit. In my very humble opinion, there is a slight difference between not having depth and having inferior depth. Oh well, enjoy: http://www.rockchalktalk.com/2016/11/18/13671718/kansas-basketball-s-most-threatening-non-conference-matchups-remaining-on-the-schedule Nebraska These two teams used to meet twice a year until the Cornhuskers bolted for the Big 10. The Jayhawks have won 16 in a row in the series. This game will be played in Lawrence on December 10th. This is another non-conference foe that KU should beat handily if they play well. Tai Webster is the Huskers’ leading returning scorer, and the Jayhawks will need to lock down on him on defense. They also need to keep an eye on freshman Isaiah Roby, a 6’7” forward who is extremely athletic. This is another game where KU should look to run as much as possible to wear down an opponent with inferior depth. But it also nice to know that we are one of their toughest remaining games! Ron Mexico Posted November 18, 2016 Report Posted November 18, 2016 Any rational object person would say we have not chance in this game. There is an order that has to be followed to pull off a miracle upset. 1. Play that team. 2. Beat that team. Does anybody know when they will give the return trip to Lincoln? HB 1 Quote

49r Posted November 18, 2016 Report Posted November 18, 2016 At least they didn't call him Taj Webster. Puts them ahead of most other blogs... Silverbacked1 and hhcmatt 2 Quote

Nighthawk Posted November 19, 2016 Report Posted November 19, 2016 (edited) I figure take the last game we played and put KU in our spot. I'm still going to enjoy seeing the game. I know it's just me...but KU is one of the very few teams that I don't mind losing to. Although beating them is ultra amazing. Edited November 20, 2016 by Nighthawk Noah121 1 Quote

atskooc Posted December 1, 2016 Report Posted December 1, 2016 I wonder if the foul disparity we saw against Clemson will be closer against KU, or if it will be worse. Cowboy Kermit 1 Quote

From now on I'll put in a Ref Paranoia rating line in the Essentials going forward. KU fouls a decent amount so it will be a middling sort of rating for this game. Ron Mexico Posted December 2, 2016 Report Posted December 2, 2016 I'll never forget when Jake Muhleisen was undercut and took a hard fall to the court during our game at the Phog during the '02'-'03 season. Quote

mwash95 Posted December 4, 2016 Report Posted December 4, 2016 The idea of the potential matchup of Jack McVeigh vs Josh Jackson scares the hell out of me. Im not sure jack will be able to keep up with Jacksons athleticism. If Jack isnt isnt hitting shots, i think Miles goes with Roby for a longer period of time. Quote

49r Posted December 9, 2016 Report Posted December 9, 2016 Lots of tickets still available for this one. The KU athletic department has GA tickets for sale (face value is $75). Stubhub has reserved seats going for well under face now. Quote
49r Posted December 9, 2016 Report Posted December 9, 2016 Also it appears that backup forward Carlton Bragg has been arrested last night on suspicion of Domestic Battery, no news on his status for the game tomorrow: http://www.kansascity.com/sports/college/big-12/university-of-kansas/article119896743.html LAWRENCE Kansas sophomore basketball player Carlton Bragg Jr. was arrested by Lawrence police on suspicion of domestic battery against a family member. As of Friday morning, no bond was listed for Bragg, 20, in Douglas County jail records, which is standard in Kansas for those accused of domestic violence. According to police, Bragg will remain in custody until he makes his first court appearance, which has not yet been set. Police provided no other details about the arrest but said the case has been forwarded to the Douglas County prosecutor for review. No charges have yet been filed. “We are still trying to gather information,” KU coach Bill Self told The Star. “But it is a charge which we take very seriously.” Said KU associate athletic director Jim Marchiony: “We are aware of the situation and in the process of gathering information and once we have the facts we will act accordingly.” Read more here: http://www.kansascity.com/sports/college/big-12/university-of-kansas/article119896743.html#storylink=cpy Quote
49r Posted December 9, 2016 Report Posted December 9, 2016 Bill Self previews Nebraska - KU Athletics http://www.kuathletics.com/news/2016/12/8/mens-basketball-bill-self-previews-nebraska.aspx?path=mbball Q. With Nebraska coming in, does it still feel like a conference team to you or has enough time passed? BILL SELF: No, doesn't feel like a conference game to me at all, and it won't to Tim (Miles, head coach). I don't think Tim was in the league when we played. So he was still at CSU (Colorado State), if I'm not mistaken. And it won't to them as well, but it will mean something, because they obviously have a good name nationally and they're from the Big Ten. And it would be a nice feather in our cap. It would be a great feather in their cap or nice feather in their cap as well if they come in here and play great. So it will be one of our more competitive games so far, no question. But I don't think it will have -- I don't see it as a conference type game.Q. Does Tim Miles continue his same philosophy, same program, same system to Nebraska? BILL SELF: I don't know. I can't remember exactly if they're running the same stuff. But I do think from a philosophical standpoint, I doubt he's changed. I still think what he valued at CSU or before that is still the same thing he values now. You don't see coaching changing that often. So I think he's a good coach, and other people think it too in our profession. He's a fun guy. Maybe he'll tweet you back at halftime and that kind of stuff. You don't see that very often. But he's probably the social media king of our profession, so that makes it interesting. But I understand why he does that and everything, because he's generating interest for his program. I like him. I think he's good, and I think he's done a really good job there. Certainly I don't want him to have any success at our expense, but I hope they have a really good year.Q. How did this game with Nebraska come about? BILL SELF: You know, somebody asked me what the reasoning was behind the game, and I'm not sure if they reached out to us or we reached out to them. But I think that we kind of did that for Andrew (White), or maybe they wanted to do that for Andrew. Was that it? They wanted to do it for Andrew? We all love Andrew. I mean, so don't get me wrong. There were no ill feelings with Nebraska or with Andrew when he made the decision to leave, and it turned out to be a good decision. You go there and you average 16 (points) a game, where maybe here you didn't get a chance to play as much. But I do think Andrew had a lot to do with the game. hhcmatt 1 Quote
