Assuming that going to an established winning program isn't what Xavier Johnson is looking for, he seems like exactly like the guy we're looking for and the type of guy we might target.  Pitt wasn't exactly running a high speed offense so if that is what Johnson is looking for he actually might come here.

Here is a writeup about from Pitt Rivals about this.

This is from a March 19, 2020, article in The Pitt News:

Some have cited homesickness, poor team chemistry or the emergence of primary scorers like Xavier Johnson and Justin Champagnie as reasons for McGowens’ departure. He ominously voiced his frustrations after Pitt’s final loss to NC State in the ACC Tournament, commenting that Pitt succeeded earlier in the season when “nobody had their own personal agendas” and “everybody was just together and just cared about winning.”

Whatever the case, McGowens was ultimately a poor fit with Johnson in the backcourt. Neither complemented the other, with both profiling as shooting-averse slashers. With Capel failing to surround the duo with capable shooters to provide greater spacing over the past two seasons, it became increasingly apparent that one would have to go.

This is via a Pittsburgh based sports site.  The video itself is a bit drawn out. I'd boil it down to this guy talking to someone from the camp of the players who thinks Capel needs to get a better handle on his program.  The other somewhat expected nugget is the mutual interest between Johnson and Indiana because of Kenya Hunter.
