I wish to thank Sam Mac for the three articles on Nebraska women's basketball the Omaha World-Herald has published the last three days.

Meanwhile the Lincoln Journal/Star still thinks that Paul Sanderford is the UNL coach.

He's not?

Huh.  I was thinking it was Kelly Hill.  :o

Nebraska's best player was All Big Ten as a freshman. also freshman of the year. Nebraska's best player averaged nearly 19 ppg, 9 rpg. Who do you think is better Freddie?

Oh....and that same UNL BBall women's freshman was the only husker ever named National Player of the Week....as a freshman.  Doesn't that count Freddie ?

"Husker Coach Amy Williams, on the go since her hiring, keeps looking to add to roster"

Earlier this week NU added Bria Stallworth, a transfer from UMass who led all Atlantic 10 freshmen in scoring with 13.1 points per game last season, though she will sit out the 2016-17 season because of NCAA transfer rules.......Williams hasn’t closed the door on adding players for the 2016-17 team, either. The Huskers — whose roster is at 13 overall, 12 of whom are on scholarship — are still considering transfers from four-year schools and junior colleges.

“We’re looking for the best pieces that fit our culture and our style,” said Williams, who wants “buy in” from any prospective player to “put our team first in everything we do.” It’s an approach that worked for Williams at previous stops.

Nebraska coaches also get eight hours per week to work with players. Williams said several have been pleasant surprises...............

"McKewon: Jessica Shepard feeling good, ready for fresh start as Huskers embark on new era"

577f174c6802b.image.jpg?resize=300%2C214

LINCOLN — Jessica Shepard was so good as a Nebraska basketball freshman it seems rude to suggest she could have been better. But it’s true. That’s how much natural talent and court sense Shepard has.

Shepard achieved so much with one creaky knee that was not fully healed from surgery to fix a torn ACL.....But Shepard this summer is feeling as good as she has since the injury, which happened in late 2014.

“That first step is coming back.”

Nebraska will need every step Shepard has this upcoming season. NU has a grueling nonconference schedule — toughest I’ve seen the Huskers play — put together by former coach Connie Yori, in part because she envisioned Nebraska, with Shepard, being able to handle it. Simultaneously Nebraska has its least-experienced, least-explosive roster in many years. New coach Amy Williams is installing her system, which is different from Yori’s, and two-thirds of the roster is composed of freshmen and sophomores.

A 5-foot-6 guard from Chicago, Stallworth led all Atlantic 10 freshmen in scoring with 13.1 points per game. She hit 39 3-pointers on 35.1 percent shooting.

Nice Interview with new WBB Head Coach, Amy Williams!

Amy Williams has been on the job as Nebraska women’s basketball coach for about three months now.

The start was frantic, with Williams quickly working to stabilize the current roster and hit the road to meet with the players who had signed with Nebraska. The pace will pick up again now during an important month for recruiting.

Q: Did you know when you took the job that you’d bring all three of your assistant coaches from South Dakota?

AW: Yes. It’s the reason why we’ve had so much success. It’s just a team that works really well. It’s an incredible model for our team of how teamwork really works and how there are no egos. There is just people who work well together and understand our system and know how to recruit to it. And it’s an incredible group of people that I enjoy being around on a daily basis, and I think that’s really, really important in our profession.

AW: I’m excited about being able to see the seniors stepping up and having a little sense of urgency, knowing that this is their last go-around. And our upperclassmen have been extremely vocal and have a lot of intensity and communication and have energy, which is a great example for our incoming freshmen.
