Nebraska hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff 11/24

I'm sorry, but what the heck is up with the non-conference schedule? It is absolutely littered with bottom of the barrel teams. This is not a staple of Miles' scheduling, if I recall - he has traditionally scheduled lots of teams in the 200s. For RPI purposes, this helps a lot to play these solid-ish low-level teams. On the contrary, all of these home games against 300+ ranked teams are just a killer.

Overall, it's not a horrible schedule to break in several new players.  The only issue is most the good games are away games and not many very interesting home non-conference games.  Miami will be a handful when they come to town next week.

I think it's a combination of confidence building game plus Miles not wanting to be fired. As long as we don't lose any of these games we'll be in good enough shape for the rest of our schedule to dictate things.

So will Rhode Island.

Apparently the creampuffs clouded one's mind on that misstep, it won't happen again. #CupcakeCity, baby! ;) - or, is it more accurate to presume #FoulShotTuesday tonight with AR-PB&J (good one, dimes)...  :D

Miles getting fired???? No chance.

The schedule at home is what stinks.  The overall non-conf schedule not bad.

Cincy #24

(Then either Tennessee or GW #26)

Miami #15

@Creighton

Rhode Island (picked top of A-10)

@#8 Villanova

That is plenty of good programs to play with this young group IMO.

Then you throw in the B10 and that is a solid overall schedule.

Rosenthal has a good write up today about this schedule and why Miles wanted it.

I'll buy the confidence building. But if Miles is worried about losing to 200-ranked teams (all I'm asking for) and therefore chooses to schedule the 300-ranked teams instead - well, then, he should be fired!

It's probably a lot harder to schedule one-and-done games than you'd think... I'd rather have an Omaha Mavs on the schedule than a creampuff from elsewhere. Mavs just took Colorado to the brink on the road, and last year came out steaming hot vs NU. But, I highly doubt UNO is all that interesting in another "1 game away" sort of deal as they have a new arena that the Mavs would like to fill.

I'm pretty sure UNO would still play here if we asked.

I should have quantified my "doesn't want to get fired" assumption as being a minor concern. Miles doesn't schedule gimmies like Doc did to pad his win totals but you have to think that he's savvy enough to know that he needs a certain level of winning after last year.

This game and the last were given to us as part of the Barclay's tournament. These teams will play the lower part of the tournament in West Point with Army as the host at the same time that we are in New York. We had no say in these teams.

Also, one of the goals of scheduling is to get teams on the calendar from places from which you hope to attract recruits.

That might apply to good teams or to where you go on the road; It doesn't really apply to the home teams you pay to come here and lose.  We're not scheduling Arkansas Pine Bluff and Deleware St, games which aren't on TV, to impress anyone.

Yeah, but it's probably now a 2-for-1 or a 3-for-1 type of deal instead of a one-and-done. UNO would be more than happy to face Nebraska at its new home. How 'bout Creighton step up & play 'em, what are the Bluejays afraid of anyways?!

I'd like to see a Richmond or a Wichita State once in a while than 95% of these dawgs. But, maybe that's my competitive side coming out! Only way to get better to step up the level of comp, whether incrementally or exponentially.

Those teams might not get a lot of media but they get coverage in their home areas.  There's no such thing as bad publicity and every little bit helps.
