CUBS

Tell me about it.  The Bucs win 98 games, 2nd most in all of MLB and the reward is to play one game against the hottest pitcher in baseball.  Now the Cubs play the Cards, so the top 3 records in baseball were bracketed together for the playoffs.

Yep, the team with the league's best record plays the WC; somehow I thought that it's not supposed to play intra-divisional 1st round. Guess if both WC teams share the same division as the team with the league's best record [and the two WC's have the 2nd & 3rd best records], then it's a happenstance that wasn't planned for by the playoff rules committee to pair up overall #1 with the prospects of playing either overall #2 or overall #3 in the 1st round... Imagine that? ;)

He is due to have a clunker soon.  Of course the Royals thought that of Bumgartner last year.

Have you seen the guy pitch?  I don't think he is, the dude is a beast!

Yes I have seen the dude pitch.  He has been unhittable, think he getting something out of his beard!  :)  All pitchers have a bad game and he is due.  Will it happen before next season, who knows.  As I said the Royals thought Bumgartner was due to blow up, he didn't.

As a HUGE Pittsburgh Pirates fan I can say that was not fun and I really do not like the wild card format!

It should just be decided by a series of 7 tie-breakers, whoever has a best 4-out-of-7 (or better) = wins!

Makes as much sense as deciding a "wild-card" based on a 9-inning game after 162 such games!!

That conversation's been going ever since this happened: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/05/infield-fly-rule-braves-cardinals-wild-card_n_1944240.html

And, to add to the insanity: a wild-card play-in possibility nearly occurred in the AL West. The Angels & Astros could have played an extra game to even GET IN the wild-card game vs NYY. And, stranger still, with a few games left in the AL West race, there was a distinct possibility of a 3-way tie for 1st place!! It was basically a couple of key games that would have resulted in a dead heat between the Rangers, Angels & Astros. Imagine the audacity of that prospect for determining the AL West crown with a round-robin event, thus having to determine the wild-card team by using that next play-in game to GET INTO the wild-card game!

Fortunately, the post-season started on time as that doomsday tri-champ scenario was adverted (this time). But, since I'm an Angels fan, I actually had high hopes for CHAOS as that situation (a 3-way tie) was one way that would have greatly favored the Angels, and that was literally the only scenario they would have had the best situation! - [Read up on that scenario, it's kind of silly to think of all that taking place after 162...]
