A Tale of Two Players (neither of whom came to Nebraska.)

Rum, it's not that I want to cry over spilt milk.  OK, maybe in a small way I do.  But since we just saw the kid that HuskerBB says was maybe our top target or certainly higher on our board than any of the players we ended up with, it made me curious to go back and look at what Sheldon has done now that he's in college.  And compare him to the guy that we apparently wanted.  And in my mind, there's no comparison.

And I guess I just wanted to vent a little bit.  And get the discussion going about something that interests me.  I mean, I'd been talking up Sheldon Jeter ever since his visit out here that August whatever year it was.  That was before he had big-time offers.  Before he was a Rivals Top 150 player.

And, for as much as we needed players, it baffled and frustrated me that there was never any indication that we made him an offer -- in spite of the obvious tie in that we had with him.

To a certain extent, looking at what he's doing in college makes me feel a bit vindicated.  If the first half of his first season in D1 is any indication, the kid has significant promise as a player.  And you can't tell me that we were just overloaded at his position or something.  We took Jerran Young, a kid with similar dimensions as Sheldon.  And after Miles pulled his scholarship, Jerran landed at Wright State where he averages 15 minutes of playing time and 6.7 points.  We had room for Young but we didn't have room for Sheldon Jeter?

I agree, there's obviously nothing we can do about it now.  But I just wanted to get it off my chest because this was something that we'd talked about on the old board a number of times.  Thanks for letting me vent.

It's ok to vent buddy! And I totally agree with you. That might have been my way of saying "fine we didn't want you anyway." Soften the blow kind of thing. Sort of helps.

Don't look now, but Jeter just hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at Tennessee.

Gaaaaaaaah!

Wasn't going to bring it up again, but since Neebraska bumped the thread ...

Sheldon played 20 minutes against Tennessee last night, scoring 8 points on 2/2 shooting from beyond the arc and 3/4 from the field total.  Also grabbed 7 boards.  He's at almost 44% from beyond the arc on the season.

Is it possible Doc didn't go after him because of the fallout that would have occurred if he'd failed to land a legacy recruit?  Nah, that can't be the answer, can it?

Salt-in-wound stat line for Jeter from last night: in 20 minutes, 8 points on 3 of 4 shooting, including 2 for 2 from three, 7 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, 1 turnover and 1 foul. Yep. We are better off without him.

Does someone in the MVC need a 3 point specialist who can't hit 3 pointers?

Do we have an open scholarship for a former MVC 3 point specialist who can't hit 3 pointers?

What the hell.  SMDH.  Cannot figure out why this kid was supposedly at the top of our recruiting board at some point.

But if his last name had been Daum and he'd been from Kimball, NE instead, he'd have blown up in college and people would have been wondering how we could have missed on offering him.

And what kills me just as much (if not more) is that he was a top 150 player on rivals.  Now i know rivals top 150 isn't always accurate.  Taking Hammond for example.  Everyone went crazy around here when we signed Jake seeing as he was a top 150 and he is obviously nowhere near the top 150 caliber of player.

But i seriously wonder how Abrahamson was ever anywhere near top 150 boards? It doesn't make any sense to me.

Another Doc recruit who never came was mentioned in SI. Fahro Aliwhatever who ended up at UAB was linked to a travel agency in the Canary Islands who then booked trips for universities to Spain in  tit for tat deals. Probably a good thing we didn't take him since we went to Spain this year and it would have looked bad. Unfortunately Fahro ended up an NU hater for some reason though.

Projected to be a stretch forward who could hit 40% of his 3s. He did take almost half his shots from 2 this year so he's not a complete statue.
