  1. I mean... it's been detailed pretty extensively throughout the board over the last few weeks, if not last several years. But off the top of my head: - This statement, both in its content and rollout. Why was it necessary? Why was there no statement of congratulations? Regardless of personal opinion, it was a point of contention both in the fanbase and the national media, and that adds to our perception of indifference if not actual incompetence. - The athletic director's lack of attendance at games, at home and at this tournament - The randomly-enforced "rule" with regard to outside consultants - The lack of contract extensions, as well as their rollout. Again, regardless of personal opinion, any time you can use the term "twisting in the wind" to describe the relationship between athletic director and coach, it's a bad thing -- and that's something that Miles has had to deal with not once but three times now, twice by the same (current) athletic director. Even if you think the lack of extension was the right move, the perception nationally is not good, and the rollout of it was an unmitigated disaster. - The recruiting issues that Kent alluded to, as well as Robin Washut in previous years - The ticket office apparently forgetting (?) to send out postseason ticket information -- it's either that they forgot or they intentionally chose not to, but either way, it isn't a good look That's all been in the last year alone. I'm not even counting the Roburt Sallie thing, the Shim Shams thing (and the underlying ambivalence that led to it), the relatively low spending compared to the rest of our conference, the lowballing for the new facilities until donors got involved, or the fact that it took until 2011 to actually build one in the first place. Individually none of these things really hinders our lack of performance when it comes to NCAA tournament wins. However, I do think it demonstrates a pretty noticeable trend of athletic department indifference (at best), and this is all just what we see publicly. So I think it's also fairly safe to say that the department's commitment to men's basketball is pretty lacking. It's possible to win in spite of that, but why would you not just work to get everyone invested, rowing together, and clear away the obstacles rather than create them?
  2. The other thing I keep thinking about this morning -- local guys like Sip and Dirk are all in a tizzy about Andy Katz's statement on BTN that we should know our place and such. That's hogwash, they say. We can run a clean program AND have consistent success. I agree with them there, but where we diverge is in the responsibility assigned to various parties in facilitating that. It would be a pretty big accomplishment for a coach to turn a historically mediocre program into a consistent winner, without breaking any rules, in 7 years when everyone is pulling together. But when you have an administration that time and time again gets in its own way, there HAS to be some personal reflection on that. Quite honestly, until this department decides to actually treat basketball as anything but an afterthought, it only proves Katz right. Putting up a pretty building doesn't mitigate the damage it inflicts on its own reputation every time it blunders -- and the blunders are as consistent as our record in the NCAA. If you don't take your own program seriously, you cannot expect the national media (or potential coaching candidates) to do so either. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  3. Ugh no, I'm probably in the minority but I don't want a Creighton rematch. Come up with a new storyline. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  4. Not just an article -- an objectively well-written article that paints you as a villain who is putting unnecessary stress on your coach, his staff, and their families, while setting up the locker room against you. Meanwhile you can't even be further quoted because you're off hanging out in California. Heck of a "let them eat cake" moment for literally no reason. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  5. 100% accurate. There's a little piece of me, probably in a tinfoil hat, wondering if a, it WAS intentional, and b, if this was also part of Miles' last stand. For as awful as Moos is at PR, Miles is a master of it, and he has played this week flawlessly. He turned the fall on Wednesday into an endearing moment; his locker room antics were almost like a cartoon you can't help but love. But the team fought tooth and nail for him too. Every word he said this whole week was pure class, and he played the media like a Stradivarius, while Moos looks like a mustache-twirler. I know not ALL of this could be under his command, but Moos played right into it. Whether it was all intentional or not, I have to tip my cap to Miles for doing what Moos seems to find impossible -- actually positioning Nebraska in a way to look good on a national level. 6. Amen. I'm all about family first -- and him missing a game for his daughter's wedding actually makes me think MORE highly of him. I wouldn't have even minded him missing Friday's game if need be. But you really mean to tell me he couldn't have attended a basketball game on Thursday afternoon and flew out right afterward? Instead, only showing up to the Rutgers game gives the appearance not of support but of an expected loss, which AGAIN he continues to hammer away at. I work in PR. Last season's statement of a need for consistency, and pointing out the 14-15 season right after one of our winningest seasons in school history, used the language of a poor expected outcome. I said so at the time, and will say so now -- that should be for the fans and media to point out, but not an athletic administration trying to put itself in a position to set a tone of optimism and winning. It was absolute incompetence. It stands out even more when you contrast his behavior and language over the last year to his behavior and language when talking about Ernie Kent -- who by any metric was an absolute failure at Washington State, yet he kept extending him and talking about his accomplishments in glowing terms. Now, we have someone you actually CAN make a case for, and instead the disdain is palpable even to the national media. I've made it pretty clear I'm no Bill Moos fan. This is why. The man is utterly incompetent when it comes to even giving the impression of leadership, and my criticism extends to those in his communications division putting out this nonsense. No matter what he does now, he has eroded the fanbase's trust with his inconsistent policies and disinterest in this program, and created his own conundrum with his visible lack of support for his current staff. To me, both as a fan and someone who does this for a living, his handling of the basketball program is absolutely inexcusable. It isn't that hard to at least give the impression that you'd prefer to see your team win. (I still recall Sipple writing that someone made a "he better get this back on track" statement in December -- WHO in their right mind would say something like that, at that point, to one of the state's most well-known columnists? I remember thinking at the time that no matter how much I dislike Creighton, you would NEVER hear Rasmussen or his staff say something like that.) Instead, he (and his staff of "communications" buffoons) made themselves absolute laughingstocks and it is mind-boggling to me how poorly they have handled not just this situation, but the entire last 365 days. 7. Can also put together some pieces from that Goodman podcast too...if there was pressure to keep Jordy, as he alluded to, surely there was some pressure to keep the active roster this year as well. And like that conversation between Nick Bahe and Jake Muhleisen said last year, when you're coaching for your job you don't necessarily have the luxury of enacting discipline as you might like (or as you might think is best in the long run). I'd be surprised if it wasn't apparent earlier on, but Miles also got a little more daring with his disciplinary tactics once it seemed the writing was on the wall (like benching the starters at Michigan). No job to lose at that point, so do what's right, not what will keep you and your staff employed.
  8. I honestly was trying to figure out if that tweet was written in code. Wood? Misshn? Yikes. Please tell me the institution where I earned my degree didn't also grant one to him...
  9. I still can't get over the fact that there was nary a positive word in that statement about the last few days. Why is Ronnie Green showing more public support and praise for the effort the team and coaches put out over the last few days than our own athletic administration? If you're going to say anything at all (which clearly was ill-advised to begin with), how do you not even acknowledge what every sports media outlet in the country was talking about? Ugh, the more I think about it the madder I get.
  10. He's also kind of selective with that policy. Openly backed Darin Erstad in the middle of last season (which is not a criticism from me, I like Darin a lot and 100% believe he SHOULD have been supported like that) -- but that was also 10 days after his 1-year extension announcement for Miles, before which he kept hammering the "no comment" line. I thought maybe he learned his lesson but looks as though he didn't.
  11. If he dropped a covfefe in there, maybe? (please don't political-downvote me for that...I just couldn't resist.)
  12. Not that I'm not all in favor of Miles coming back (I for sure am), but I keep seeing Hoiberg being mentioned as off the table. Did I miss something there?
  13. Notably, I think it's his high school girlfriend who came to Nebraska because of him, and is not subject to transfer rules. Not sure I'd bank on her keeping him here.
  14. Good God, how do the people surrounding Bill Moos have jobs? Last year's rollout of the non-extension was a massive flop, they somehow forget to offer season ticket holders the opportunity to purchase postseason tickets, and now his "statement" (which, notably, seems to be lacking so much as a "congrats" or "we are so proud of how this team has battled" or any sort of kudos for the fight they've shown) has national pundits calling him a moron for appearing to let Barry Collier determine the future of our coaching staff -- after opting to skip the game yesterday and today? Forget the lack of leadership he himself is showing here (which is substantial on its own), does he not have a contingent of people responsible for PR? The incompetence here is astounding.
  15. Or door #3, I thought I had someone but he turned me down and now I need to buy a little time. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  16. Big Ten officiating office deserves a few phone calls. 62 + goaltend/technical 4 = 66. Not that I wanted OT but this is inexcusable. I'm just sick for these guys. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  17. Interesting take here... they're #64 in the NET (we're 52 going into today, not updated yet to include today's win) and we also now have 10 Q1/Q2 wins. Beating Marquette (#29 x 2) and Villanova (#25) has them in. I would hope, if that's the criteria he's using, we are also in the conversation at least...
  18. In other news around the country, Pat Chambers was retained for another year, and Ernie Kent was fired.
  19. I'm totally on board with family first. But that game is Saturday. Surely there is a flight from Chicago to San Francisco sometime between 6pm this evening and Saturday morning?
  20. Permit me a brief rant here -- this really ticks me off. If I'm remembering correctly, these used to go out in mid-February. I get that we were in a swoon, but there were still enough games left on the schedule that the NIT was still very much a possibility, if not the NCAA. It's possible I'm reading too much into this (but given the apparent trend, I don't think I am) -- but the fact that our own athletic department didn't see fit to send so much as an email indicating that this might be on the horizon is frustrating to me. It's fascinating that @hhcmatt started really talking about it on Twitter, then suddenly there was an emergency conference call and oh hey, an email giving fans all of THREE DAYS to reply (assuming they all have email to begin with...which, with our fan base, isn't necessarily a given). The administration dropped the ball here, whether accidentally or intentionally, and it's yet ANOTHER example of a lack of support for this program. If we're going to have high-performing expectations of the basketball program (as we should) that should include the WHOLE program -- players, coaches, staff, and administration, and yet again, one of those entities slides right on by until a fan with a following calls it out on social media. Why will this administration not take this program seriously and at least demonstrate the very very basic step of preparing for the possibility of the postseason? Why do they not even show this extremely passive but generally expected motion of support? Instead it sends the message that even the athletic department doesn't believe in this team and that's a really crappy place to be.
  21. But they made the switch precisely because the RPI was a flawed methodology. That's not to say the NET is an exact science, but it's an improvement over RPI. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  22. You joke, but this legitimately does happen. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  23. I'm also going to keep banging the Texas drum...unless they win their tournament, they'll be a 16-loss team that is still fully in the conversation if not actually considered in (per BracketMatrix, even as high as a 7-seed?!). I understand our resumes are very different, but it's also not like we're the ONLY team with this issue. On paper we actually don't stack up THAT poorly to other bubble teams, if we can pull out wins today and tomorrow.
  24. The last time he was at an away game, we did OK...stomped Indiana by 15. Really he's just being a good luck charm.
