  6. Huskers go to 2 -0 with a 64-39 victory over Temple. The Huskers looked twice as good as they did last Friday against Carolina A&T. The Huskers played like a top 10 defense today! They made it very hard for the Owls to get into any kind of offense practically the whole game. Great job out of Hooper, Cady and Sample crashing the boards. Hooper lead the Huskers with 12 points and 14 boards. Brandi Jeffery had 13 points and Zeros had 10. We need Hooper and Cady to start knocking more of their shots down. If we can get those two hot the sky's the limit for this team. Sadie Murren was again impressive off the bench. Rachel Theriot was also, but she needs to speed her game up a knotch. She has got great floor awareness when she's out there. Thought Hallie Sample looked good also for the amount of time she was out there, especially going after rebounds. I also really liked how Lindsey drove into the lane and attacked the basket. Total attendance for this one was 3981.

  10. I'm hoping she'll straighten that shot out. Though she looked pretty good on the defensive side of the ball. I thought more than once though we were out-hustled as a team on getting rebounds. Sample played pretty good. We can't afford to get her, Cady or Hooper hurt. Good to see all the freshmen get in.You could tell it took Theriot a little while to adjust to the speed of the game. Murren needs to keep shooting that 3 ball it's bound to start falling for her. I don't ever remember a walk-on freshman getting in a game the first half of a closely contested match. I think both Murren and Aitken do a good job defensively and that's most likely why they're seeing so much playing time. In watching the two exhibitions and this one I still have yet to see Aitken shoot the ball. The stats show that she shot once against UNK but I don't remember it.

  13. Huskers win 68 - 50. NC A&T played like a Big 12 team. I thought for a moment that the Texas A&M Aggies were in the house not the Carolina A&T Aggies! I thought we looked a little sluggish at times. Depth down underneath might become a problem as Cady, Sample and Hoop can't play the whole game. Need to pick up the help defense, too many times they got into the lane with a clear shot to the bucket without too much effort. Lindsey Moore led the Huskers with 15 points. Brandi Jeffery and Hallie Sample each had 10. Rachel Theriot finally got in a game and it took her a little time to get into the flow of things. She had 3 points. She did show periods of really good play though. The Huskers shot 18% from behind the arc.

  16. ESPN has released it's Big Ten preview and predicted order of finish: Last year, Penn Stat carried the mantle of preseason favorite well, losing just three games. One of the teams that knocked off the Lady Lions was Nebraska, which should be Penn State's primary threat in 2012-13. The Huskers weren't even supposed to contend in their first season in the Big Ten but were solidly in the race until a three-game losing streak in mid-February. In one calendar year, Nebraska has gone from "young" to "experienced." http://espn.go.com/womens-college-basketball/preview2012/story/_/id/8594956/big-ten-preview
  17. ESPNW has put out it's top five at each position and Jordan Hooper makes the list and Lindsey Moore is honorable mention. The player listed first below was voted the top player at her position, as determined by espnW's Charlie Creme, Kate Fagan, Graham Hays, Michelle Smith and Mechelle Voepel. http://espn.go.com/womens-college-basketball/preview2012/story/_/id/8601035/espnw-top-five-players-position
  18. It only took six Huskers to take care of UNK 68-38. It wasn't pretty but they came out on top in the end. Hooper put in 32 and Moore had 19. Major cudos to both freshmen Sadie Murren and Courtney Aitken. Each played 40 minutes and looked good for only their second game. Both their arse's were dragging come the end of the game though. Kearney is twice as good as they were last year but it still might be a long year for them. Theriot wasn't wearing her boot as she was last game, but she didn't get off the bench either. Would have liked to see her play and get some sort of experience before she gets thrown to the wolves next Friday.

  21. Ian Smith from Cyclonefantics is reporting that Chatrice White will be in Ames this weekend on an unofficial visit. He says she has offers from Iowa St, Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Michigan State and Purdue. She visited Oklahoma St two weeks ago.
  22. Full Court has a preview of the upcoming Big Ten Conference teams and ranks them. Penn State tops the middle-of-the-pack Big Ten 2. Nebraska (24-9, 10-6, sixth): Nebraska’s first season in the Big Ten Conference was more impressive than a sixth-place regular season finish would suggest. Coach Connie Yori and her squad spent much of the season vying for the league title before an injury-driven slump saw the Huskers lose four of five late-season games and fall out of contention. And the Huskers did this despite having the league’s second youngest roster, which leads them to be the near unanimous choice to finish second this season. Nebraska had a strong season despite no real statistical strengths. The Big Red finished in the bottom half of the conference in scoring and rebounding margin, offensive and defensive field goal margin, and free-throw and three-point shooting. Their only top three finishes statistically were in offensive rebounds, offensive rebounding percentage and three-point field goals made. The Huskers succeeded by riding the shoulders of several outstanding players and making clutch plays when games were on the line. Two players who regularly put their team on their shoulders were then-sophomore Jordon Hooper and then-junior Lindsay Moore. Hooper, a 6-2 post, finished fourth in the league in scoring (18.9 ppg) and first in rebounding (9.3 rpg). Hooper is much more athletic than she appears and is a match-up nightmare for almost everyone in the league. She can step outside and hit the three as well as play a strong post-up game. Moore is a 5-9 point guard who has started every game in her career and was the starting point guard on the best team in Nebraska history, the 2009-10 team that won the Big 12 title and was a top seed in the NCAA tournament. She finished seventh in the league in scoring with 15.7 points a game and her 5.1 assists a game were the conference’s second best mark. Those two return and will again lead Nebraska. With the overall return of four starters and nine of ten players who averaged at least ten minutes a game, Nebraska should show across-the-board improvement. With Moore and Meghin Williams the only two seniors on this season’s roster, Nebraska should be in a position to sit at or near the top of the standings for the foreseeable future. But, and isn’t there always a but, the Cornhuskers will have to stay healthy, and injuries have played havoc with early practices for Yori. To date, Hooper has missed about half of the practices with a stress fracture, Halie Sample, another returning starter, has missed virtually all the practices with a knee injury suffered last season, and Moore has missed about a third of the reps with several injuries. In addition, several players who have been counted on to contribute have missed large chunks of practice with a variety of nicks. While no one is likely to miss the season, Yori will need to get her players healthy while getting her team ready for the season. That will not be easy, but the reward could be a special season in Nebraska.
