  1. For those that read the article online, did you read the comment left by Darryl Cobbs at the end of the article?
  2. Nancy Fahey is the new Illini head coach. http://fightingillini.com/news/2017/3/22/fahey-named-head-womens-basketball-coach.aspx?path=wbball
  3. Watched the Washington games the past two rounds where they've dismantled both Montana St. and last night Oklahoma. Kelsey Plum is a stud. She had 29 against MSU and threw in a measly 38 last night against OU. They pass the ball better than any team I've seen the past couple of season's, defense is suspect though. Of course I'll admit I watch U-Dub because of Natalie, she had 11 pts the first round and 20 last night hitting on 6 of 10 three pointers.
  4. Announced yesterday, Teddy Allen from Boy's Town was named Nebraska Boy's Basketball High School Gatorade Player of the Year. https://www.gatorade.com/poy/winner/teddy-allen/35618
  5. UNL freshman basketball player’s talent stems from father’s support
  6. I'd be satisfied if their first order of business was removing the clown, nut-job. student or whoever that sits right behind the TV announcers during the game that is constantly yelling over the top of the broadcast.
  7. Here you go. She was in Vermillion last night watching South Dakota beat North Dakota in the first round of the WNIT.
  8. Ashtyn Veerbeek named the Sioux City Journal Girls high school player of the year. HULL, Iowa | During a state tournament postgame interview, a reporter queried Hull Western Christian girls basketball coach Justin Negen about whether or not he has to let his players know to feed Ashtyn Veerbeek the ball when she’s hot.“They know,” Negen responded. It certainly shouldn’t require a lot of thought on the part of Western Christian players when it comes to getting the ball in the hands of Veerbeek, honored today as The Sioux City Journal girls basketball player of the year. Although only a junior, the 6-foot-2 Veerbeek has established herself as the cream of the crop with her versatility, court knowledge and God-given basketball talent. The University of Nebraska commit led the Wolfpack to their fourth Iowa Class 2A state championship in the last six seasons, averaging 22.8 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. Those totals ranked second and sixth, respectively, in Class 2A. “She’s a super-special talent but what’s so great about her is she’s extremely coachable,” Negen said. “She wants to learn more, she wants to be challenged and really emerged this year as a great leader for our team. “Ashtyn loves hoops and it was just so much fun to watch her develop not only skill wise throughout the course of the season but as a leader in the locker room and the floor.” Veerbeek was at her finest when Western Christian dismantled top-ranked and previously unbeaten Iowa City Regina 71-49 in a state tournament semifinal. She scored 31 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked six shots. The Wolfpack had a nailbiter with Treynor in the championship game, pulling out a 51-48 victory despite a rare sub-par performance from Veerbeek, who readily admitted that fact after the game. “She may not have had her greatest game against Treynor but she was right there in the huddle getting everybody fired up,” Negen said. “We’re glad to have her." ⦁ The 17-year-old daughter of Ron and Tammi Veerbeek already ranks second on the school’s all-time girls scoring list with 1,252 points. Brooke (Wolterstorff) Granstra is the leader with 1,314 points. ⦁ A two-time all-stater, Veerbeek played on a state runner-up team as a freshman and semifinalist last season. Despite losing their coach, Bill Harmsen, who guided the team to three state titles in a row before taking over the boys program, the Wolfpack returned to the top of the heap this season. “Having a new coach was a little bit of a different transition but we just had to trust Coach Negen to continue the success of the program,” Veerbeek said. “We just went to practice every day trying to get better than we were the day before and keep working toward our goal which was ultimately to win the state championship. “Our seniors did a great job of leading us and making sure we were working our hardest every day. Being able to get down to state and win just capped it off and it was awesome and a dream come true.” Although primarily a forward, the agile Veerbeek is called upon quite often to bring the ball up the court. She has expanded her range, which has made her even more of a threat to score any time she has the ball in her hands. “Last year I played mostly in the paint and rarely went outside to shoot,” Veerbeek said. “This year I really worked on my outside shot and becoming a threat on the perimeter so that if I hit some big shots outside they would have to come at me and I could take them to the hole off my dribble. Being able to open up my game by creating an outside shot was big. “I tried to use that more this year and I’ll keep working on shooting and ballhandling, just trying to get better at those skills.” Veerbeek has spent the last several years playing for the Iowa Barnstormers West AAU team, composed of players from Northwest Iowa. She will step it up this summer and play for the All Iowa Attack program out of Ames, where she will compete with and against some of the top players in the state. Veerbeek also earned all-state volleyball honors and her mother has guided the Wolfpack to multiple state championships. Basketball, though, is her first love and she is looking forward to continuing not only next season at Western Christian, but as a future Nebraska Cornhusker. http://siouxcityjournal.com/sports/high-school/basketball/western-s-veerbeek-is-cream-of-the-crop/article_6e7679ae-57fa-5a3f-a52e-caf84d9f8d6f.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
  9. Pretty sure Choe was a junior this past season. I'm guessing Kissinger was considered but her injury which sidelined her for 2 plus months hampered her chances at winning this reward. Minden, although was undoubtedly one of the top teams in Class C-1 when she was on the court.
  10. You're right, I read it wrong, the boy's Gatorade POY isn't released until this Sunday.
  11. Aguek Arop from Omaha South was named the Nebraska Boys High School Gatorade Player of the Year yesterday. https://www.gatorade.com/poy/winner/aguek-arop/34423
  12. Congratulations go out to Lincoln Christian junior Chloe Dworak. Chloe was named the Nebraska Girls High School Gatorade player of the year yesterday. https://www.gatorade.com/poy/winner/chloe-dworak/35556
  13. For those interested in the Post Season WNIT Tourney Michigan received the automatic bid from the B1G. Other B1G teams to make this tournament were Indiana, Iowa and Penn State. Other teams the Huskers played this past year that made this tourney were Colorado State, Virginia Tech and Virginia WNIT Bracket
  14. Loved his work ethic and team first concept! Hope he ends up somewhere where he gets a chance to play in the NCAA tournament.
  15. Only four B1G teams made the big dance, Maryland a 3 seed, Ohio state as a 5 seed, Purdue and Michigan State both enter into the tourney as 9 seeds. Sort of surprised that Michigan didn't make the cut. Other than the B1G teams that the Huskers played that made it, the other teams the Huskers played followed by their seeding that made it in were, UConn (1), California (9), Creighton (7), Drake (10) and Missouri (6). The Bracket My final 4 picks - UConn (1), Washington (3), Stanford (2), South Carolina (1). How do you see it playing out?
  16. Here's a video I found on Leigha Brown and some of her highlights from last season. Sort of a unfocused video and hard to read the numbers, she's the one usually playing the 1 with long dark hair. It's a highlight video, so we're getting to see her best plays, but from what it does show she's deadly from behind the arc and can find the open girl under the bucket. https://www.dropbox.com/s/1yl0miboo5fg65s/soph.Leigha.WMV?dl=0
  17. Huskers lose 5-2 to Western Carolina today. Turned out to be a pretty good pitchers dual despite the frigid temperatures. Although an error plagued 3rd inning cost us big time. huskerbaseball13 what's your opinion on Ben Miller's bat? I know he could all of a sudden break loose and go on a hitting streak at any time but how long do you let him continue to slump? I think it could be time to set him down a while and let the freshman from Chaska, MN Luke Roskam have a shot at first. Unlike Miller he's been producing at the plate.
  18. Does Miles start tweeting again or has that ship sailed? Forget this I just came upon the Miles twitter thread.
  19. Great info whoopdeedoo! I spoke with an official with NSAA a few years ago year and asked him if they ever considered adding a shot clock, He told me they've talked about the that possibility but that's about as far as it got. He said in the lower class schools weren't particularly too keen on that idea and it mostly stemmed down to money; especially in smaller schools that consolidate where two and sometimes three schools take turns playing at each schools home court. Teams like Howells/Dodge and Clearwater/Orchard would have to purchase shot clocks for two gyms as a majority of these teams who consolidate with their at one time rival don't like to give up games on their own court.
  20. Kelly Lewis-Jay an assistant and recruiting director under Connie Yori for 5 seasons, was let go today by Florida Atlantic after five years as the Owls head coach. The record for FAU this past season was 4 - 25 overall, 0 - 18 in conference. She only had one winning season at the helm at FAU. Also, past assistant Shimmy Gray-Miller who just finished her second season at Florida will be looking for work as Florida head coach Amanda Butler was given her walking papers today. Gray-Miller will find work somewhere as she's a proven great recruiter, and a lot of schools are always looking for coaches like her. Gray-Miller was at Nebraska for three years and served as an assistant and recruiting director under Connie Yori. She recruited both Huskers seniors this year Allie Havers and Ester Ramaceri.
  21. Here's a recent interview Leigha Brown and her high school coach gave a few days ago. Leigha's interview starts at the 9 minute mark.
  22. Good catch. I put the wrong number in. Like Silverbacked1 at times I have fat fingers. It should be just under 1100 which would be a smaller Class A team or a high Class B team.
