  1. I was thinking the exact same thing last night.
  2. Since her mom is a university employee, she has a 50% tuition benefit for undergraduate coursework. Used it for one of my kids around 15 years ago.
  3. Last night was the first time I've spent in a long while watching the WBB team (outside of the occasional clip I've seen on SM). It was hard to watch. Outside of the VB team, what sport has had consistent success in the past 10-15 years at NU? What the heck has happened to the athletic department? Meanwhile up I-80 in Omaha, Creighton is enjoying a successful VB team (not as good as the Huskers but still a darn good team), successful MBB and WBB, and a pretty good men's soccer team as well. Is it because they don't have a FB team to worry about? I just can't figure out how almost the entire NU athletic department has gotten into such a funk.
  4. "Also Connie Yori being an in game consultant really helps them also." Yes, this can't be emphasized enough.
  5. I think she played this past Wednesday.
  6. JMO (based on my experience of raising an athletic daughter in the state of Nebraska who participated in three sports at the club level): the overwhelming majority of basketball coaches (club and HS), expected her to play year-round basketball and either drop or greatly reduce her other activities. She enjoyed the other two sports too much, so guess which sport she dropped after her freshman year in HS? Basketball, and she wasn't the only one. I know of at least a dozen girls her age that could have easily played DII basketball, a few even DI basketball, that gave it up for that reason. These girls, including my daughter, preferred to play on the intramural team in HS (with the boys), and focus their efforts on softball, soccer, volleyball, or track and field because they were fed up with coaches who demanded they be in the gym year round. Most of these girls went on to compete at the DI level in sports other than basketball. Could they have been an asset to their HS basketball teams? Yes, definitely. Did they want to make basketball their priority 365 days of the year? No, absolutely not. But it was made clear by their HS coaches that if they weren't willing to do that, they would be riding the bench. These were girls that attended every HS practice during the season, but maybe weren't in the gym during the offseason as much as the coach wanted to see (only because they were participating in other sports). A good example of this was when we were on the east coast at a championship level event one summer, my daughter was still in middle school. The HS coach called her and asked if she would play in a summer basketball tournament that he was coaching for the HS team. She would have loved to, except we were in South Carolina for the full week and wouldn't be back in time. That should have been the end of it, right? Nope. He put her on a guilt trip for a good year after that, made her feel horrible for not flying back early to play in this tournament. My daughter played a lot of different sports at different levels growing up. The only one she ever soured on was basketball, which was too bad because up until around 8th grade, it was her favorite and the one she thought she wanted to do in college. Then it got hyper-demanding of her time and, unfortunately, there was a lot of politics in it as well. It became a negative experience for her and for several other kids we knew. It was much easier to balance multiple sports by dropping basketball. The other thing we noticed throughout her years playing sports is that some of the least athletic kids we ever met were on the soccer fields and basketball courts (more so on the soccer fields). You can be skilled but not athletic to play both those sports, or it's at least easier to hide your lack of athleticism. That's not true with VB and track and field. If you aren't athletic, it shows, you can't hide it. More and more athletic girls started choosing VB over basketball. Most of the nonathletic ones (or average athletic) avoided track and field like it was the plague. If you can't run, jump, or throw, you aren't going to have much success in track and field. But you might have success in soccer if you can play disruptive defense, or in basketball if you can consistently nail a 3 point shot. And that gives their parents something to brag about. If I had a dollar for every time a basketball or soccer parent told me their daughter was a DI recruit (when she was only 10 years old), I could retire 10 years early.
  7. I know that football and dollars are what's driving this, but it still seems to me that the B1G likes to present itself as an academic conference as well. For that reason, I don't see Oregon being invited. Washington, yes, but not Oregon. That being said, my opinion on Oregon academics is from a few decades ago, so perhaps they've improved in that area. But if either two were seriously being considered, I would put my money on Washington, and they are my personal preference (I might be a little biased since I went to grad school there in the 90s).
  8. The Davis twins (FB) also threw discus at NU a few (maybe 5 or so, longer?) years ago.
  9. Creighton does something Nebraska hasn't done. Onto the Elite 8!
  10. My Yotes keep on winning! Sweet 16!!!!!!!!
  11. Definitely old news, but she has been extremely valuable for Creighton and the only reason I cheer for them from time to time (like today, which was awesome!)
  12. Especially when one of them is a former national coach of the year and has experience defeating Big10 teams.
  13. I feel like Connie's fingerprints were all over that game plan to defeat Iowa.
  14. I have to say, I'm kind of happy about this. And I'm convinced after watching Iowa, they must be required to practice looks of shock, dismay, and disgust in the mirror for 30 minutes every day after practice, because what a bunch of whiners.
  15. Has anyone in D1 history ever gone the entire first quarter without scoring a single point? If not, OSU just did it against Baylor. 0-13 on shooting, score 23-0 end of 1Q Baylor.
  16. Just won the SEC championship. Hope we don't draw them in the first round.
  17. Bubble team my ass! Suck on that, striped skunks!
  18. And St. Clair is the throws coach now. He can get her there.
  19. According to newspaper, she’s left VB team to focus on track and field. https://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/volleyball/after-a-lot-of-consideration-about-my-future-goals-meyer-leaves-husker-volleyball-to-focus/article_7cb3609d-9220-5233-9069-25dea0c2eab5.html#tracking-source=home-sports
  20. I see Meyer threw shot over the weekend. Over 50 feet is an amazing mark for her debut in the indoor college track season. If she could devote more time to the sport, I'd like to see St. Clair coach her in weight/hammer.
  21. Track scholarships are typically not full ride scholarships. Most track athletes still pay something toward their education.
  22. This is a very good thing for her, especially with the new throws coach (one of the best in the business).
  23. With the recent hire of a new throws coach at UNL, Meyer would be crazy not to give track and field a try. JMO
  24. I doubt USD coach would leave right now. Her son plays for the Yotes and is an excellent player (unfortunately he suffered a knee injury late in the season, though). Also, she has some really good players that are opting to come back another year, so next year's team should be good again.
