I agree with you 100%, AuroranHusker, Fred is building a winner in Lincoln. I'm as excited about this as you are. And getting guys like Griffiths and Essegian (both Big 10 veterans who have experienced competing against NU basketball) attests to this fact.  But also the fact that it appears they are having trouble attracting the front court guys they want looks to me like they still have a ways to go. Maybe I'm full of crap and these guys just want to go somewhere with warmer winters, who knows.  And if it's as hhcmatt suggests that football NIL over basketball plays a part, well then....  I only know this whole situation is beginning to give me a damn migraine headache.  🤢

Let's let it play out in its totality.

I agree with you, Vinny.  NU basketball needs to get back to the Tournament and win a game or two. What was the media storyline for NU in the Tournament this year?  It wasn't the terrific season they had just completed, it was the fact that NU is one of only a few D1 programs that have never won a NCAA Tournament game.  And they sadly fell short again.  I'll even go a step further and say that I believe NU's reputation of being a football only school hurts much more than it helps in attracting the blue chips recruits (high school and transfer). These guys don't want to come here and be ignored in favor of the football program.  Fred needs to show these guys NU can be a consistent basketball school in addition to football.

That's BS in 2024. Freddy's had his squad 29-14 in his past 43 games. He's building a winner in Lincoln. Recruits actually want to be at a program that supports its teams, too.

Doug Ewald spoke on this topic on the Husker Doc Talk Podcast a few weeks ago. He was very candid about the importance of us getting back into the AAU to potentially maintaining B1G membership. He also stated the hiring of Gold is influenced by his connections to a man who could get us back into the AAU. For the record NO university has ever been allowed back in after being kicked out. For whatever it's worth Mr Ewald in no longer employed by Nebraska, which occurred not too long after this podcast airing.

    That was a shitshow, lol.

I thought we were this and next season away from being over COVID extra seasons. But nonetheless.

It will be interesting. Deion Sanders has made zero visits to high schools and hits the transfer portal heavily. I'd imagine he'll lose out on some players who transfer to schools where those coaches visited them in their early years.

As for basketball, you can probably get by with it a little more than you can in football. But in order to have depth, you either need deep pockets for solid bench guys or some continuity from high school or JUCO recruits.

I'm tired of the extra seasons, but it has helped Nebrasketball, nevertheless... it's time to be done with it.

Deion is a dipstick. This schtick will end horribly, I'd imagine, once his son is a QB in the league.

Basketball is in a unique position in that a team basically only needs about 5-8 good enough players to go with 1 (or 2) star player(s) to be more than competitive. That's the point of development, a team can't just re-load every single year unless it's KU or Calipari at UK... I suppose now that opportunity is there for everybody, but I don't believe it is sustainable long-term. Time will tell...

  5. This ostensibly will be the final COVID 'extra' season of eligibility, so recruiting freshmen will be needed to fill out a roster going forward. You can't just solely recruit in the portal anyway, so a coaching staff recruits kids from an early age to make sure they know one another for future considerations. it's basically mass free agency in the minor leagues of basketball....

I think that class had Maric, White ( #31, a guard can’t remember his first name…we were going to hire his uncle as an assistant), Marcus Walker, Kyle Marks, Chris Ballam.  Additions, subtractions or corrections ?   The two German guys ?  Was it Barry’s second year we had the transfer PG from Duke ?  I’m rambling sorry….

Jamel White, he almost made a game-winning layup to beat Durant, yet NU lost 62-61 since JW missed a layup. And then he had off-the-court shoplifting charges... ended unceremoniously. I think NU still hired his uncle since Barry C. was nearing the end of his reign of terr(ible) basketball coaching in Lincoln...

We're still very active.    Believe a couple of guys are visiting today.   Shooting guard and big post player.   Somehow the post player has been under the radar.

    That sounds promising. . .

    ((UPDATE))

Then I read the follow-ups, *false alarm* lol.

The SG news can be a boon..... still hopeful that WK-III and/or Milicic are 'N'!!!

My simple wish is that KU won't have to suffer through the agony of another 23-win season. Those poor bastards.

Yeah, Nebraska had a better conference record than KU. When's the last time that had happened..... sheesh, poor KU babies.

I think we're beyonf semi-pro. This is like baseball now. It's mutated into a farm system explicitly.

We're basically rooting for AA and AAA teams pretending to be colleges. It's probably for the best. College sports in teh age of 24/7 televsion ceased to be amateur a long time ago

That's a better way to say what I'm getting at... THE MINOR LEAGUE FEEDING ORG. LOL.

Gotta make sure you’re a good candidate for it though. I have a cousin who went blind in one eye after.

I mostly wear contacts and for me, the risk of losing my sight is definitely not worth removing the inconvenience of taking contacts in and out everyday.

I was the guy going blind about a decade ago.... and, miracles do happen, after a slew of seven eye surgeries, I can see clearly now. The marvels of modern medical treatment and the capable hands of Dr. Lance Kugler, and no, I don't get paid to promote his wares. lol.
