  1. I think in Arop (committed), Chang (offered) and Wingett we have three really good kids who would like to play at Nebraska. Chang and Arop seem to be really good friends off the court. Chang tweeted a picture of them eating together after the South, Papio game. The state tournament will be really good this year with those three and they'll be back next year. Pretty exciting time for prep hoops in Nebraska, I think.
  2. Sam -- Thanks for being on this board. It's appreciated. Your insights are fantastic. I generally agree with this thought. I don't think 11-7 is good enough without a tournament win to be in the NCAA. I also think Nebraska needs to find a way to win all their home games (with the exception of Purdue and Maryland, but win ONE of those two would be huge). We need some better stuff on our resume. Michigan State would be a start.
  3. One of our striv.tv schools (Millard West, Class A No. 9) will host Papillion-LaVista (Class A, No. 3) tomorrow night at 7:15. A link to watch: http://striv.tv/channel/millard-west/
  4. Good to see them get the ship righted in the second half. Looking forward to my first game at PBA for the Huskers next Wednesday. Would be nice to get the Big Ten off on the right foot.
  5. And, now 16-0. By Prairie View A&M. In the first half. Super duper.
  6. Nice little 10-0 run from Prairie View. Love the focus.
  7. Another focused effort from the charity stripe.......
  8. Lot of great points in this thread and I didn't mean to start a crap storm (and I don't think I did, which is why I love this place). hhcdimes: Yep. Landing Biggs was a big deal. Wish it would have worked out a bit better. bball23: I think Miles probably doesn't miss on a guy like Eikmeier if he's at Nebraska. My guess is he lands them. I think when I started this thread, I was more fired up about losing when an Omaha freshman locked down our senior leader and it irked me off. And, while I'm not sure he goes to the NCAA in the Big Ten with the four mentioned, they'd be decent pieces for this team. Would we need more? Sure. Could they help? I think so. auroran: Hamilton County guys think alike. :-)
  9. So it's a fluke that Miles went the NCAA Tournament with four Nebraska kids? It's a fluke that South Dakota State has a redshirt freshman averaging 11.5 and 6 ppg for an 8-1 team that won at Minnesota? It's a fluke that Omaha has a kid in the top-10 in the nation in steals and another who is as athletic as any 6-7 kid Nebraska has? The Thomas kid from Benson is a fluke? How about that point guard from Iowa (I know this is not Miles fault). Is he a fluke as well? Sheesh. Lot of talent playing in a ton of places; none of them Lincoln.
  10. Good hoops guys I talk to in Omaha say he'll get high major offers. Sounds like some UCLA interest already.
  11. I think all the schools should play. Nebraska, Creighton and Omaha. I also think it'd be great to have a Nebraska basketball day every year where each school plays a neutral team. Three games. One day. Rotate between Pinnacle and Century Link every season.
  12. Norm -- I am gonna start this post with an apology. I was not thinking Hollins, but that's who I described. So, that's my bad. I was think of Tre'Shawn Thurman. As for Thomas, he was our state player of the year. So, I think that say something about what folks thought about him BEFORE he went to the military academy and then Creighton. I'm not really saying Miles "missed" on anybody. You recruit the kids you think will win games for your team. I really like the freshmen that we have. What I am trying to say I "hate" is kids FROM NEBRASKA helping OTHER TEAMS FROM NEBRASKA and not us. Will we get them all? No. But, dang it anyway. These "kids from Nebraska" have also played some pretty good basketball this year. Heck, the Daum kid from Kimball is averaging 11.5 points and 6 rebounds for SDSU off the bench and they won at Minnesota (something we'd be ecstatic to do) and are 8-1. We have a coach who to went the NCAAs with four Nebraska kids. I'm not saying all. I'm saying some.
  13. It's like he thinks the guys he recruited at Colorado State couldn't win for him at Nebraska in the Big Ten. I beg to differ, I guess.
  14. I'll just add this. We have great basketball coaches in this state. And, for the most part, we have some pretty good players here, too. Find one who wants to be a Husker and who will work hard. I do think both Trueblood and Borchardt will give us quality minutes down the road. Love that we have Arop committed. Now, let's go win some basketball games in the rest of December.
  15. The one we all clamored for is a lonely soul in the Big East. Two are at Creighton, and one -- A FRESHMAN -- took Shields to school last night. The last -- and my favorite while I watched him at Omaha Central -- is in the top-ten in the nation in steals. I'm not on here enough, but this infuriates me.
  16. Correct. He's fully committed to Nebraska, just pointing out that Wofford -- a tournament team -- showed decent interest.
  17. A few good sources I have told me at State Tournament that Wofford is trying to make a late play at Trueblood, or they made a play and he said no. At any rate, the Terriers like Johnny's game and I think that bodes well for what we need him to be -- a solid player by year three after redshirt.
  18. jones -- I feel you. I'm not ever saying a coach should let his team go rogue. Heck, Paul Westhead had rules. What I'm saying is, we see more and more teams try to control EVERY SINGLE POSSESSION from the bench with a set play rather than letting players play. Do your Jimmies and Joes have some say in that? Absolutely. I just think that a coach that could teach a simple system that leads to good, quick solid shots would have an advantage.
  19. jones -- I think a bunch of basketball coaches could maybe learn from Creighton Prep coach Josh Luedtke. I'm sick of the shot clock debate in prep basketball. We don't need a shot clock; we need coaches who let their kids play and teach skill development. Even DONU got a little bit programmed this year, it seemed to me. I don't know.... "I have to let them be them. Early in my career, I probably tried to control it a little bit too much," said Creighton Prep coach Josh Luedtke. "Basketball is about playing and reacting. It's not about thinking. "We had to be the aggressor. We were kind of sitting back. I told the guys this is not how we play. This is the old Prep. The new Prep is go be yourselves, run and have fun, and that's what they did." It meant Luedtke had to give a little and make some fundamental changes. "I told them to play defense the way I want you to play, rebound and then run and do whatever you want, but just share the ball," he said. "They did a great job."
  20. I saw Walt at state hoops in the Arena and later on the sidewalk outside Jimmy Johns. He was walking around like a guy who didn't care about the season he just had. I don't want to necessarily call him out, but you just got the hunch that he is in complete "don't care" mode. About basketball. About school. About life. I hope I was completely misreading him.
  21. No disagreement. I love that we got Trueblood to walk-on, to be honest. He'll have a redshirt and I think by years four and five could contribute. Need guys like that on your team.
  22. I have not seen him this year, but coaches I have talked to say he has gotten quicker and greatly improved. Most think South Dakota getting a steal. Hoping to see him in Lincoln next week. Had 20 last night on 7/12 shooting.
  23. Jones and Dean -- Great stuff fellas. As a kid who was just "7th man" for the greatest coach in this state, all your stuff hits home. We were a basic 3-out, 2-in motion team if we ever made it there. We ran a KU break into a secondary motion and mostly tried to score before the other team got set up -- which I don't think we see enough in today's game. But, the 'why' as you said, Dean is so important. We need to improve basketball IQ in young kids and, to be fair, I think basketball in our state is getting better each year.
