  1. We will never be able to go back to pretending these athletes are amateurs and eventually some system will be worked out. Perhaps some sort of division grouping the institutions able to "spend big" and ones with smaller budgets with a final tournament which includes a few of the smaller budget schools might work sort of like football now does. Who knows-we just have to compete in the present system until that happens.
  2. One of my favorite, and least appreciated, sports movies is the 1996 Bruce Dern/James Wood classic,"Diggstown" in which he plays a retired boxing champion. Check it out some time and appreciate his work.
  3. Grant Nelson (Summit League) for Alabama, Baylor Scheierman (Summit League) and Dalton Knecht (Big Sky League) for Tennessee have been stars for their NCAA teams after transferring. I have to wonder whether they would have been able to develop their present skills as fully sitting on the bench for a couple of years at their present schools had they started there originally. It seems that the way to success in today's system is being able to spot the upcoming Mid and lower major talent early and harvesting them first. Are coaches able to approach this potential well of talent before they declare for the portal, i.e. poach them, or is it breaking some rule?
  4. He sort of reminds me of Jack Tuz. (I remember him wearing a face mask at BDSC and everyone chanting Tuz,Tuz,Tuz,Tuz with every dribble he took.) JACK TUZ - Los Angeles Times (latimes.com)
  5. I trust you watched the whole 2hr25 minutes of it. Actually, the 1972 movie is one of my favorite musicals but I could not seem to download it.
  6. We have to title this thread "Forrest Gump's Box of Chocolates".
  7. Wow, we ought to be set for 7th grade girls' basketball then.
  8. I'm "good" with that although I will opine that NU was the"gooder"of the two.
  9. Portal probably makes sense for all concerned.
  10. No problem. Nothing like I felt after NU. Actually, I picked the Zags to win when I found out that the Jayhawk's best player was done, and that Timberlake would be an integral part of the lineup.
  11. I wonder if the referee who teed KT up speaks Japanese? Otherwise, how did he know he wasn't saying, "Excuse me for interfering with your most excellent shot selection,Sir".
  12. Oddly, now that I have had some time to recuperate, I would much rather get blown out than have a lingering bad taste like Samford fans undoubtedly do after the KU game. Buzz Williams seems to be a pretty classy coach and their players all played hard and exceeded their previous performances without any histrionics. I actually felt much more remorse after the Creighton game this year. We got beat, but not humiliated.
  13. At the first of the year, I venture any of us would have been happy for it to end with a one and done NCAA performance. The problem is the team performed so well, most of us fully expected more victories. The bar has now been set for expectations next year. Bring it on, Fred and all; we have been primed.
  14. I don't know. A&M looked unbeatable to me. (Too soon?)
  15. Has Mast definitely indicated that he'll return next year? I can't help but remember his welcome to Lincoln was a punch in the nose.
  16. Don't have the oomph to read any other threads now. I'll switch my coffee mug to the Red Sox one and expect a KU loss to finish my college roundball interest for this year. I guess I would like to see a Big Ten team win and will be interested on what the portal brings for next year. This year's team brought me a lot of joy so thanks to all of them and best wishes for further success in the future.
  17. Anyone remember Ron Foul and Check from Iowa State? Or the time students threw water pistols on the court at Stipanovich or hot dogs at a player from Kansas State? And how about the "sit down Norm" signs? I also recall Norm running off the court at Allen Fieldhouse flipping the double bird to the fans after an (infrequent) upset there. Yes, those were the days.
  18. We can check him and Charlie Easley out at 6:35 tonight.
  19. I wouldn't mind having Cliff to back up Mast next year.
  20. This should be interesting. Will it be the coach or the players who change their offensive/defensive priorities?
  21. One million home NIT victories=one NCAA win
  22. Has anyone figured out how many Bernos he lasted at UW?
  23. I'm confused. Does this mean they are worn during the missionary position?
  24. Yes, Nebraska. Wouldn't have been able to root for a Bruce Pearl team.
