  1. i love your optimism and hope, but if we win our Thursday game the team should be summoned back to Lincoln Thursday night so they can participate in the parade the mayor is throwing them Friday morning.
  2. true, but luckily it should be way easier to access. doubt we'll be waiting in the car for 45 minutes if there is a halfway decent crowd. Plus, you can get to the Haymarket early to eat, drink, etc and avoid the traffic
  3. Talley last year =/= talley this year. Talley was very mediocre last year, and you could argue he was mediocre for about half of this season, too. I have no doubt more than one newcomer next year will eventually be better than jeter, talley, etc. in the long run, but if it happens next year I'll be shocked.
  4. That class probably has the biggest negative ratio between hype and productivity of any recruiting class we've ever had. It might, in fact, rival the '11 class for lowest aggregate career productivity in terms of minutes played, starts and points. Someone want to try to add the numbers up? It was actually one of Doc's better groups. He just didn't manage it very well. I think that's the point. The class had a lot of hype coming in, and then when we saw it in person we all thought "well damn, we actually might have something here.." and then before we knew it, they were all gone. disappointment
  5. if we win 10 conference games next year miles deserves to choose his salary, a lifetime contract, and immediate induction into the national bball hall of fame
  6. 2005- Balham, Marks, Mike Smith, BJ Walker, Marcus Walker, Jamel White wow. I think a lot of people thought that class (mostly Balham, both Walkers, and White) thought that class could turn us around. disaster
  7. We seem to be putting a lot of weight on the shoulders of three or four true freshmen and 3 guys who haven't played an actual game in over a year. I expect next year's record to be similar to this year's, but the style of basketball and natural talent on the court will see a huge improvement. Naturally, not showing any improvement record-wise will lead to some idiots to start calling for Miles' head. If you are expecting a huge leap in year two, I'd recommend tampering your expectations. Ubel and Talley are going to be bigger losses than they appear
  8. I think it's also important to recognize that the light seemed to come on for talley when Miles made him the PG and allowed him to initiate the offense. I don't think that position/role change would've occurred under the previous regime
  9. Are the new Hyatt and Hilton going to be full service? I live in the Haymarket and should probably know this, but I guess I hadn't even thought about it until now.
  10. i hope we do whatever steps it takes to have the chance to get one. With three new hotels going up near the arena, that should help solve that issue. The new entertainment district right outside the arena (the yard?) will be a good selling point, too. There certainly wouldn't be a whole lot for visiting fans to do outside of the Haymarket/downtown area, but considering they'd only be in town for a weekend that shouldn't matter a whole lot. Would be a very nice get for the city.
  11. i'm in the boat that doesn't really care what next year's roster looks like (as long as Atewe is a part of it ). I think we already have a solid foundation to build upon. I don't see Vucetic or Parker making it past next season barring major improvement, though. Like Hooper said, we can't afford to just take 1 guy in next year's class. For multiple reasons. I'd like to get to the point where we consistently have 2-4 players per recruiting class. I think that's important for Nebraska to build and maintain a steady program, and in order for that to happen we are going to have to make some cuts this season or next
  12. Miles doesn't strike me as a guy that would willingly leave a program prior to completing his goals, or has at least set the program up for future success
  13. I personally never liked the basketballs, thought they looked tacky. The one thing I do miss though is the outline of Nebraska with the star on Lincoln at midcourt. BTW, I am on a mission to try and find a video of that game you were talking about. I've scoured the internet for hours on end for old Nebraska games and all I can find is a few terrible quality highlights and some "hype" videos. Can't even find a decent highlight of the 2011 Texas game. Saddens me.
  14. Totally agree, actually wish maybe they would move one game there for the younger generation. When growing up I always heard about some state basketball game that was there, it was a last second shot called "Miracle on Vine" or something. Anybody else older hear of that? I've thought about this too. Instead of playing an exhibition game against Doane etc at Devaney/Pinnacle, put it at the Coliseum and make it all general admission. Or play one of the holiday break games there. Bring out the throwbacks if you want. Make it a once a year or every couple year event. It would really generate some novel interest over a game like that. Michigan State did it this year, playing a game in their old coliseum in December I believe. next year's exhibition game would be the ideal time to play a game at the coliseum so that the first game at PBA isn't an exhibition against a D-3 school
  15. and your grandson probably learned an invaluable lesson about moderation that day. sell that booze
  16. yes. pretty exciting to finally have an outstanding freshman that also has his head on straight. can't see Shavon making his sophomore debut 40lbs overweight or jacking items from teammates' lockers. knock on wood
  17. i agree with what you're saying, but wanted to correct one thing- booze will absolutely be sold at the arena for concerts, professional events, etc regardless of the decision by UNL. UNL can choose to not sell booze when they are playing, but they have little control over what the arena does outside of that.
  18. illinois is wildly inconsistent. Their loss to Michigan makes it less likely (it was already very unlikely), but they are a team that I could see laying an egg against us. They've had two 5+ game win streaks and two 3 game lose streaks so it could be interesting. Doubtful, but of all our remaining games I think they are the most likely to slip up (and also the most capable of beating us by 30+)
  19. Every sporting event is going to have fans that leave early. It's just the way society is today, a lot of people want to get to where they are going as quickly as possible and if that means leaving a sporting event early, that's what they're going to do. Nothing will change that. What we can change is the frequency of these people showing up. Rather than only showing up for the big games and then leaving when it's out of reach, they'll show up for most games and then leave when it's out of reach. All it is is more of their money
  20. i can't see just one more win getting us into the NIT. The "must finish .500 or better" rule was axed a few years ago, but I still don't think they've taken a team with a below .500 record. Winning just 1 more game would put us at 14-17 (5-13). There's no way that is gonna get us into the NIT. Even winning two more games and finishing 15-16 (6-12) would be a hard sell for the NIT selection committee unless we go on a little run in the big 10 tournament I don't think the selection committee even has a choice if a team isn't .500. I think we'll beat Minnesota and that's it. But this team has beat my expectations all year so let's hope that keeps happening. i think they did away with that rule. I'm not sure why, but here is a link: http://collegebasketball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=514258 as for the question, i don't think we will win another one. Iowa looked past us and we screwed up their season. They won't let us beat them again. Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota are all tournament teams trying to lock up a better seed right now. This late in the season, I don't see any of them taking a game lightly. Hope I'm wrong, but we already have 4 more conference wins than I thought we'd get so I'm not too worried

  22. http://journalstar.com/news/opinion/editorial/editorial-consider-beer-at-unl-basketball/article_ef1ce86b-174b-5991-97ad-7bec1f7a875b.html i think this is relevant for this board as selling booze would, IMO, drastically increase our average attendance once the newness of the arena wears off And aside from that, there's really no point in NOT selling beer at games. There have been multiple studies/articles pointing out that, across the country, selling booze hasn't caused problems.
  23. Waverly, I truly am not doubting what you were told, but for the life of me, I cannot fathom Doc saying this...especially to a recruit. It simply makes zero sense. Even Dr. Tom bristles at that comment, I cannot believe that any of his coaches would have made that statement. I doubt Doc specifically said "this is a football school," but i could definitely see him trying to over use the football program as a selling point and rubbing some recruits the wrong way with that.
  24. i agree with hooper. I think we will be more talented, dynamic, and enjoyable to watch, but I also think our youth and lack of size will cause us to be too inconsistent to improve much record-wise. Year 3 will be our leap back into relevance
  25. i don't see why you'd need to take the commercials out. pretty easy to forward past them. personally i'll probably watch them, i love old commercials
