  1. Nebraska Cornhuskers (13-9) vs #24 Maryland Terrapins (17-6) Date: Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2019 Time: 6:00 p.m. Arena: PBA Broadcast: BTN Courtesy of @HuskerHoops Maryland Info Head Coach: Mark TurgeonLocation: College Park, MDConference: B1G 10Nickname: Terrapins, TerpsMascots: TestudoLast time out: Beat Minnesota Conference Record: 13-7Typical Rotation Depth: 7+Line: Maryland by 6Offense: "Maryland Motion", turnover prone Player to watch: Bruno Fernando The 6'10" 240# sophomore averages almost a double-double and put up 18 points vs Nebraska in January. Considering Nebraska's commitment to taking away the 3pt shot and not fouling, it's a matter of mitigating the damage that Fernando will inflict on the scoreboard. Player to watch: Anthony Cowan The junior PG is leading the team in scoring and went off for 19 points against the Huskers in January. Cowan is having an off year from 3 this year but is a threat to shoot from all over the court. KenPom Helps explain the Roster PG SG SF PF C Pct 1 1 Anthony Cowan 6-0 170 Jr 5 Eric Ayala 6-5 205 Fr 2 Aaron Wiggins 6-6 200 Fr 25 Jalen Smith 6-10 215 Fr 23 Bruno Fernando 6-10 240 So 17.5 Maryland has one of the youngest rosters in Div 1 but doesn't have the glut of one and done players like Kentucky/Duke 5 star Frosh Jalen Smith is the 3rd leading scorer and 2nd leading rebounder. Smtih doesn't have much of an outside shot Wiggins along with Cowan takes the most 3 though is shooting 42% on the year Ayala is shooting 47% from 3 but isn't aggressive with his shot 6'5" Soph Darryl Morsell is a slasher who has found some 3pt success in conference play Fr 170# Guard Serrel Smith is the rotation and has the green light to shoot 3s but has only made 29% this year; turnover prone Sr PF Ivan Bender is an effective inside scorer but simply depth at this point 6'8" Fr Ricky Lindo has played minimal minutes but had a nice line filling in for a sick Jalen Smith vs Radford Scouting Maryland: Our deep dive on Maryland Miles Presser WE NEED A SPARK The Skinny: It's fitting that Maryland comes in here ranked 24th as that is where the Huskers sat when they rolled into Maryland and couldn't close the deal against a young Terrapin team. Since that time Maryland has positioned themselves into the top 5 in the conference whereas Penn St is currently the only thing keeping Nebraska out of the basement. In conference play Maryland has seen more of their scoring coming from the 3 and the FT line, no doubt with teams doubling down on Fernando. Jalen Smith, the X factor in our last game, has the potential to make hay when either Tanner or Roby has to come out and the 6'10" talent is guarded by Brady or whomever we throw out on the court. How well can Tanner defend Fernando without fouling out or without constantly requiring a double team? Offensively, the Huskers simply need to hit some shots and everything will start to open up. They've certainly had success against Maryland in the past. I keep telling myself I'm going to pick against the Huskers and yet every game seem like *THIS* is the one where Nebraska wakes up from this 5 game nightmare. Why not tonight? Prediction: Nebraska 70 - Maryland 66 View full article

  3. Seems like we'd have an exciting brand of losing basketball. If you're looking at UNO guys there is former Jay and long time Altman assistant Kevin McKenna. (At UNO for 4 years, won there) No idea if he could or would want to run a D-I program but he has all the experience for it.
  4. Bo Ryan though there you're talking about a guy who was an assistant at Wisconsin for 8 years, was a D-IIII coach for 15 years, and then coached at Milwaukee for 2 years before he got the Wisconsin job.
  5. We're now sitting at Nebraska as a 2pt favorite as I sit here and tell myself I will stop picking this team in the HHCC
  6. This was the end of the cursed 2014-15 season. There was one shining moment where Terran Petteway came out a-blazin, Walt P went for some 3s, and Shavon was 2 assists away from a double-double. We're due for at least one of these nights before the season ends. Is it Wednesday?
  7. All of these people, myself included, are lunatics ????
  8. Was watching Hoosiers the other day. Why not really go for it and just play only Watson, Roby, Allen, and Palmer?
  9. We have 15k people show up for games. How many of them have put out a tweet in the last year with a #Nebrasketball tag? Perhaps I'm going a bit overboard with the phrase. By comparison try tracking something with #Huskers or #GBR tags
  10. I probably spend more time on twitter and have personally driven the use #Nebrasketball hashtag for the last 7+ years. I can say that it's a fraction of something like #Huskers and it's lived in by the lunatic fringe, myself included. @HB pretty much nailed it IMO and the same sort of deal goes that goes with transfers applies to head coaches: if/when you lose someone who did you replace them with?
  11. If the Sadler era is any indication we'll have years to dissect this. It certainly wasn't Eichorst's fault that Miles spent the first 4+ years here bungling the recruiting of Nebraska kids.
  12. Fran McCaffery had a contract extension put together in March of 2016 that he signed in June. Heck, the guy had/has two 4 star kids as recruits; Seems like he was going to be at Iowa for a while. We extend Miles another year in May maybe we have a chance with this guy. Big Maybe. We're talking about a Nebraska team coming off two losing seasons and Iowa coming off of three straight tournament wins so that might say more to job stability than any contract. I've known about this Garza thing for a while and was going to sit on it until Garza graduated.
  13. When was he extended the previous year? May.
  14. If the long term stability of a coach is a priority for a recruit, they probably put more research into it than waiting for OWH articles to appear.
  15. Color me impressed if you guys have people in the academic know. I suppose the plan has been to graduate early to have the degree and go pro but this all sort of seems like what happens when you have a month of losing and that time is spent thinking about what else could go wrong. The working theory of Isaiah knowing how good he could be academically seems really far fetched to me but then again I've had a very bad year in the HHCC contest.
  16. What a day for Tanner though Nebraska Postgame Notes *-Tanner Borchardt grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds, betting his previous high of 10 against Stetson on Dec. 29, 2017. It is the third straight game he has grabbed at least six rebounds. The 18 rebounds is the most by a Husker since Ed Morrow Jr. grabbed 18 against Gardner-Webb on Dec. 18, 2016. The last Husker to have more was Aleks Maric, who had 19 against Missouri 2007. *-Borchardt’s 12-point, 18-rebound double-double is the first of his career. He is the fourth Husker to record a double-double this season. His 12 points was a career high (previous best was eight on two occasions). *-Borchardt is the fifth Husker this season - second in as many games – to grab at least 10 rebounds. *-James Palmer Jr. has been in double figures 22 times in 23 games, as he finished with 22 points. It was the 11th 20-point game of the year and 19th of his career. He now has 992 career points at Nebraska, *-Nebraska finished with 18 second-chance points, its highest since getting 19 against Creighton on Dec. 8 *-Nebraska out-rebounded Illinois, 50-36, the first time the Huskers out-rebounded opponents in consecutive games since the first three games of the season. *-Nebraska went 11-21 from the foul line, shooting a season-low 52.4 percent from the floor. *-Nebraska’s 10-0 run in the first half is the Huskers’ 19th double-figure run this season.
  17. I only got to listen to this game on the radio. This has got to be the shortest post game chatter in the history of HHC. Also the team got to spend another day in Illinois
  18. In three years? Would he be the Nebraska Basketball player to ever accomplish that?
  19. Roby, the guy on NBA draft lists, is going to sit out a year and then play one more at a "blue blood". L.O.L.
  20. Maybe. He was on his way to LA on Thursday. Omaha isn't usually a place where one connects though Chicago was closed due to the cold. I am to be reunited with my laptop tonight. If anyone gets there before me they can log in and gain control of the HHC. The password is mikegesell$basement
  21. Also tends to do this when Butler plays at Creighton and we have a game following
  22. It's been a mixed bag embodied by me forgetting my laptop in the Omaha airport because I was distracted by Bill Murray being there
