  1. Doc could coach circles around Tim, and Tim could recruit circles around Doc. Both weaknesses did them in as HC here. Can you imagine how good we would be if Tim was on this staff and all he had to do was recruit? Yikes. That's how big of a deal it is to get Doc, though. He had a few memorable games during his tenure where he rolled out some mindblowing gameplans. And... this is huge and probably a big reason why he's so loved... his teams NEVER got outworked on the court despite their deficiencies in talent. Ever. It's really about the best staff I could possibly imagine coaching here.
  2. Doc’s #1 strengths are game planning and maximizing effort. His #1 weakness is recruiting. I’m guessing a huge part of this pitch is the ace recruiters we already have in place and the idea that Doc can be more of a homebody and film nut in this role rather than the constant CEO/travel duties of HC. This staff is extremely well planned and, with the exception of Gates, knows Fred’s developmental system already. Everyone is being utilized for their strengths. I cannot wait to see thing go.
  3. This would be incredible. Doc on staff would mean we can recruit straight up gunners on offense bc his defensive coaching—particularly in transition—is as good as anyone in the country. We’d have a bunch of shooters become serviceable defenders. Great PR hire as well. And he wouldn’t really have to recruit with two recruiting monsters already on staff. Wow.
  4. You have to graduate to be a grad transfer. He is not eligible to be a GT. He isn't messing with us.
  5. I thought it was a really classy tweet. He isn't a graduate transfer possibility, and the notion that he would do anything disingenuous toward Nebraska after 3 years of being a model student athlete is ridiculous. Give the kid the benefit of the doubt here. He's earned it, and he's earned the right to have options.
  6. Man. He's all business. There won't be any fluff to these practices. Love it.
  7. We might see a starting lineup of MAW, Green, and Dachon which, IMO, is a really good looking trio of guards for Fred’s system. I think Costello will get a look in this system as well. I can can see Amir being a useful player for any coach as he is an ELITE defender and great in transition, plus he plays with his hair on fire and obviously plays through pain. They’ll work with him on his shot. It’s really the only flaw in his game when you think about it. I also think Brady makes a big jump next year and will have a serviceable three point shot by the time the season begins as well. But man... if we get Roby back and a stretch 4 transfer or something, call me crazy but I think we roll out a pretty explosive team. I think our newcomers are going to really surprise some people.
  8. Exactly. I think TM is pretty well connected in the college game, but Fred has legitimate friends in the league making those kinds of huge decisions. Fred could be the difference between thousands and millions for a fringe talent like Roby to get the nod over another player with a similar grade. I could see Fred getting the ear of a team like the Spurs who actually understand and value intangibles, culture, and coachability.
  9. Tate is the best 3x3 teammate you could possibly ask for. Always loved his game. It'll be interesting to see how well Glynn's squad shoots/guards, but they are going to be horrifying inside. Fun stuff.
  10. Even if he is, I don't think the combine provides enough time/structure for players like Roby to assert their intangibles. It takes awhile to appreciate how he changes a game. He has ordinary NBA athleticism (note: they are all freakshows) and average offensive skills. The thing I think he brings to the table is he can essentially guard 2-4 in the league, has a very high ceiling as a passer, and is a serviceable scorer. It's the defensive versatility that makes him a prospect, imo. But he could also average 18-20ppg in Fred's system next year, graduate from college, and get a great recommendation/tutorial from a guy who played in the league for a decade, worked in the front office, coached an NBA team, and has connections to every major player in the league. It gives him a great chance at being a first rounder and leaving Nebraska as one of the all time greats. Really tough call though.
  11. I played Y summer league w Ryan and Sek on my team. Guarded Gallegos one game, Marcus Perry another game. Drevo was in the league too. We won the chip and I retired from the league after our Skers graduated. Talked a lot of shit on my way out knowing that I’d never return with that kind of a roster again. Lol.
  12. I'd take Doc allllllll day to be our DC. I think I'd take him over anyone. He put in work at ISU with Fred. Doubt it happens though. I think he likes running things and Southern Miss is on an upswing under his guidance.
  13. Love the assists line.. they pass the mess out of the ball and I cannot WAIT to see ball movement and assists here.
  14. Abdelmassih might disagree with you on your assumption of his race. I'm pretty sure he identifies as a minority, and is from Brooklyn. He's grown up around people from a ton of different backgrounds which is probably why he's an all world recruiter. My favorite thing about this staff is that they all have strong NBA ties. I've seen enough film from Fred to know he can coach the hell out of offensive sets (top 10 in offensive eff. during his time at ISU), so they really just need to go all out on recruiting and we'll be a top 35 or so program in a couple of years. I don't think it's going to take long.
  15. Funny, but I think this is totally rational, and given Tom’s personally organized charity functions for our community, it seems as though he has his center of ethics well ahead of his years. I really hope he hits it off with Fred. His scoring would go way up in that system. So would Roby’s.
  16. He’s perfectly within his rights to protect himself with no coach in place. I think he’ll stay.
  17. Something to keep in mind about giving the coach a couple of days: This typically allows bball coaches to have end of the year banquets, team awards, etc., and we have a lot of seniors. I've heard this all "likely" shakes out "mid-week" from a local reporter, but that was far from a confirmation.
  18. PG Muhl $1 SG Strick $5 SF JD $.50 PF Pike $6 C Venson $4 6th man -- Conklin $.50 My starting 5 can all switch on perimeter screens, 1-4 can handle the rock, the shortest player is 6'4". Two NBA starters with the BIG 12 POTY starting at Center. Venson is a steal at $4. He averaged a double double his senior year!
  19. I would respond, but I’m literate, so I can’t.
  20. That was a good win with half walkons against a feisty midmajor squad from the Midwest. Nice conference, Creighton. We would’ve farted a Big Least championship this year.
  21. It’s a hell of a silver lining for Miles to be replaced by someone that good. Seriously. If that happens, and I’m making a hire, I’d take Miles over the next midmajor up and comer at a place like UNLV. That would be a rad spot for TM to land.
  22. No. That’s literally the only thing he can do to redeem himself.
  23. The top of the Little East would be circling the drain of the B1G this season. They should be a 1-2 bid league. Same with the PAC 12. Horrible basketball in both conferences this year.
  24. Totally fair. I think Miles might have figured out how to keep us on the bubble year in and year out. We play very, very well at home. That's a legitimate 2-year trend. I'm thinking about the poundings we've received on the block during our losses in the past two seasons. The hard double team and brilliant subsequent rotations were new during the BTT. I'm very curious about the freakshow defense I saw for three straight games. It might be too little too late, but it looked like an actual change in culture--not just a streak. Like, we give Frost all the credit in the world during a 4-8 run because we saw the difference in the play at the end of the season when some sort of intangible culture change took place. This was really, really smart and courageous basketball. I'm not being sentimental, either. Something transcendental happened. If Matta or Hoiberg were available, I'd support the move. I'm not being sentimental.
