Nebraska on the Selection Committee Board

Lunardi headline today: Bracketology: Losses don't impact No. 1 Losses don't matter, so we don't have to win out after all!

    Road to 20

Hey, everybody stay away from bracketology this morning and just enjoy the 20 wins. Stop and smell the roses, don't wake up and smell the coffee!

    Selection Committee Games of Interest

That KSU game just floored me after Texas looked so great against OU on Saturday. I said I was going to just enjoy our season and quit scoreboard watching. Just like I was going to fix that gutter before the first snowfall.
  5. I don't have a problem with the statistical analysis, their formulas make the most sense in objectively seeing what's going on. But they do miss some things, like what's going on in Lincoln.

Call me Mr. Sunshine, but I just don't believe we're left out if we keep winning. I understand the tier system, but it's a tool and just winning counts for something. The thing we can't do is lose to a crap team.

Nebraska on the Selection Committee Board

I think it is being looked at. The tier system is a big thing, but not the only thing. The point of the tiers is encourage better scheduling. Some big schools (Syracuse is a good example) put together a weak home-only noncon, then made the tournament by winning home games against tough conference opponents. Teams that don't play (and win) road or at least neutral-site in noncon are penalized. It's a good idea, and while it's biting us now, it won't matter if we keep winning. Hmmmm, I think I just answered something that had already been answered. Groundhog Day, I guess.

One thing with the brackets is that some reflect the current state (if the season ended today) and some predict the eventual outcome, not really the same thing. Lunardi brags about accuracy, but it's based on his final bracket vs. the real thing. His accuracy during the season isn't impressive in the slightest. All the brackets tell us is that we have work to do, and everybody already knows that.

Time to eat a little crow

Also weird that Wisky, Iowa and Minnesota are all stuck in the mud right now with coaches who are staying. Really is a strange year. I'd equate Miles' situation with Pat Chambers'. How much progress does he need to show and how much do you want to keep the current players together next year? It's not an easy answer.

    Road to 20

No kidding. This year is especially bad because of all the combinations with the weak schedule. We're winning games, and that's more fun that losing. That's as complicated as I'm gonna make it.

How many future pros are on our roster?

I really think Terran's reputation suffers here because of how it played out at the end. He led the conference in scoring and was a first-team selection. He was named on preseason all American teams heading into his junior year. I get why everybody loves JPJ right now, but he's a step below Terran at the same point in their careers.

    Teams without NCAA Tourney Wins

Don't know who you talk to, but every Jay fan I know bitches that they don't make the SS. It's their white whale, like our NCAA schneid.

HHCC Game #23 - at Rutgers (Jan. 24, 6:00 PM CST)

NU 54 RU 49 Winning ugly!
  19. NU 64 OSU 68 Gonna take a breather, get back on it against Rutgers.
  20. Our defense is getting flat-out nasty. Offense has been up and down a lot of the time, but the D has just been getting better and better during conference play. All hail Mo!
  21. Basically it's possible for anyone to develop and make it, so I guess Jordy's a possibility too. But I'm still gonna say Copeland is most likely to play in the NBA.

    2017-2018 KenPom Rankings Thread

Funny KenPom stat: the luck factor, which compares what your stats say you are vs. what your record is. We're 63 and Illinois is 343.

  24. Love Isaiah, but his career high in scoring is 12 points and he's a sophomore. Projecting him to a first round draft pick is a real stretch. Shavon had a 29-point game as a freshman, for example. Also keep in mind that IR's never the focus of opponents' defense, since he's usually the third or fourth option. I like IR's game, has good tools, but he hasn't even been starting for a mid-level Big Ten team and doesn't have one skill at an elite level. Can he get there? Sure, but he's probably in a pool of about 200 players who could "if they develop." Palmer has a lot going for him, but he's really inefficient as a high-usage guy. Very similar to Terran in that regard, but TP was better and didn't get drafted. So I'd go with Cope. Good size, think he could get his shot off against elite competition.
