ZAYWHAT! got a reaction from Art Vandalay in Will Roby be back next year?
So what is everyone’s guess about what slot Isaiah will be drafted  tonight.  I’ve seen anywhere from 27-44 lately.

Im going to say the 34th spot to the 76ers

    Found this yesterday.   Interesting information.

Love or Hate : Roby’s Move, Hoiberg’s Reset,  Eratad’s Fall

Isaiah Roby has an NBA Draft Combine invite. He’s one of only 66 players to have that. He’s hoping to become the first Husker drafted since 1999.

A report from Syracuse.com’s Donna Ditota gave a pretty good indication of what that combine invite means for Roby’s draft prospects:

In the last five years, 43 of the 60 draft picks on averaged were combine participants.
In the last five years, there have only been a total of 11 college players drafted who didn’t participate in the combine (international guys are growing in popularity).
I think Roby’s decision should have been made after securing a combine invite. He’ll test well in the athletic portions of the event, set to take place May 15-19. He looks the part of an NBA player, possessing the size and versatility a team will always take a chance on. ESPN’s recent mock draft has him 37th to the Mavericks.

While that’s second round, it’s still early second round, which means good things. According to NBC Sports, 65 of the 72 college players selected between 31st and 45th of the last six drafts (90.3 percent) signed a guaranteed contract from an NBA team, and only two college players taken in the top 40 since 2012 didn’t get a guaranteed contract during their first season as a pro.

Creighton’s Khyri Thomas went 38th to the Pistons last season and signed a three-year, $3.92 million deal with the first two years guaranteed. One spot earlier — Roby’s projected spot — Gary Clark Jr. went to the Blazers and signed a fully guaranteed three-year deal. The Nets drafted Rodions Kurucs with the 40th pick in the draft and gave him a four-year, $6.96 million deal with the first three years guaranteed.

All these things are good things for Roby. Playing in the NBA is the dream and he seems incredibly close to achieving that dream. He doesn’t really owe Nebraska much at this point; the team he’d be returning to would feature one player he’s played with at Nebraska, a coaching staff he doesn’t know and a system he’s new to.

The NBA’s looking better and better.

    ..........

I found out tonight he does not have to declare on May 29th one way or the other  since he was invited to the combine.   If he does not get drafted he comes back.   If he’s drafted he does not come back.   May 29th is irrelevant.

I heard he had a great tryout with the Bulls today.

    The combine starts Tuesday.

Sports illustrated in their analysis of him recently  said he was likely underutilized offensively in part due to selfish guards.     That’s one way to put it , and I agree that Palmer rarely looked for him near to or breaking to the basket.   I would guess he would have increased his scoring considerably if that had occurred.

I called it when he was a junior in high school. I said potential lottery pick.  You all can go back and check his recruiting thread.  If he's a first round pick, he SHOULD leave.  He'd be nuts to come back.  Go make some bank in the NBA, finish your degree on your time, and when it's time to hang the sneakers up, go be a coach or a color guy on ESPN.  And, Isaiah, it was very nice to have known you and you'll always hold a special place in Husker hoops history.

How could you not like Tim Miles.   A class act.  A nice man.   A good guy.  A great representative for Nebraska on and off the court.      The last few years have been so exciting at times.     This year fell short and ultimately that was it.     I will miss him.

ZAYWHAT! got a reaction from Art Vandalay in Roby will be back. Book it
Scoring doesn’t seem to be on his mind when they are running the offense and he is  out at the top of the key.   He rarely squares up and takes a look at the hoop when he is in that spot but rather just sets a screen and hands the ball off or  he keeps on passing around the perimeter  and then rolls to the hoop.   An occasional square up to the hoop at that spot might lead to some points or some open team mates.   This would be a subtle variation of their current offense but could open him up to score more etc.

It's like Bill Raftery said during the Indiana game:  Isaiah needs to take that 3-point shot.  He passes up open looks all the time.  He can hit those.  He needs to just not THINK about it and, instead, FEEL it.  Just let it go and let muscle memory take over.

They were saying he won some 3-point shooting contest on the team, something about hitting the most treys in a set period of time.  That tells me he can feel it if he just stops thinking about it during games.

Oh yeah, this was what JPJ did quite often last season. I recall a game in which Palmer had 9 assists, a year ago. He needs to become an astute facilitator more often. And Glynn & Tom can take some of his longer shots instead.

Great performance by Roby.   Great to get a much needed win.     Penn State had 21 offensive rebounds.   We have to find a way to not let that happen.

Minor groin strain.  Would have played if it was big ten opponent.  He should be fine.
