  1. I'd say even more recently than that. The recruits we're bringing in now are head and shoulders above guys like Vucetic, Hawkins and Fuller, and even Webster. The staff has stepped it up big-time starting with the last class, and Roby is a continuation of that same caliber of player. Obviously, we know we've been unsuccessful in landing quality big men thus far, but the overall quality of the players entering the program now is pretty remarkable. I still see 2015-2016 as a rebuilding/developmental year with very little chance at an NCAA bid at season's end, but I look at the 2016-2017 team as a group that could do a lot of damage, especially if we can solidify the front court through recruiting between now and next year. It's an exciting time to be a Husker hoops fan for sure. Yes, there will be some teeth-gnashing and hand wringing this year from those who don't get the patience part of your scenario ("but we're in year 4 and blah blah/whine whine"). I can hear it now. Prepare for it. But we need to stay the course; I agree with your take.
  2. Yes, she made it. Well played, Row 6! Interestingly enough with regard to Amy, we were in another country recently, on a hike, and some young ladies noticed my wife's Husker shirt and started firing up the Husker smack. Turns out a couple of them had played for Coach Stephens at UNK. One is now a Division 2 head coach in Minnesota. Small world out there, and Husker fans are everywhere.
  3. Few, but very productive minutes for Kalenta. 8/8 from the line for Jasmine, but 4 TOs and 2/7 from the field. Brown and Ford are listed but not Stephens. Did Amy make the trip?
  4. I also was thinking the same but if you look back at the first post, it does mention White. "The latest recruit" was the lead-in. "Newcomer" was the subject....
  5. Have to disagree. There is always buzz about new players. But we are looking at the loss of FOUR seniors, 2 of whom started over 100 games in their careers. They will be missed. Experience is very important at this level, and we don't have much of it. We will do OK, but to say we'll be better than last year is a huge reach. I do like the new talent we are bringing in, and an experienced and quality point guard is always worth some wins. But unless Shepard is dominant out of the gate, combining with a healthy Theriot, this will be somewhat of a rebuilding year.
  6. If that's true, then why was the spot open for so long after Burno quit? Burno's departure went public on July 3, so this job wasn't even open a month. Doesn't seem "so long" to me. Anyway, would the University's policy on posting the job be in play?
  7. I especially like #59-61. Read them and see if he nailed it. If there has been a constant with regard to our struggles in the Doc/Miles eras, it has been poor shooting.
  8. Plus she can slay a deer...you don't see that every day....
  9. We recruited behind Chandler Smith at the guard position, and it is a good thing we did.
  10. Well, I mean, why wouldn't they be??? It's pretty clear that Barfknecht and probably Rosenthal both do. Pavelka does, even posts here from time to time. So does McKewon. Does that creep you out? No, it makes me quite proud of the company I keep. ++++ Not at all - never been prouder of HHC, and All it's denizens (well, except for maybe a curmudgeon or two ) It's the best BB Board in the State! I thank HB for steering me onto this site (that's right, you can all blame it on HB - sorry Norm, you've been supplanted as scapegoat ) Hey, Red Don, you damn me in one paragraph (I've been told I was a curmudgeon before I was 30), and praise me in the other! Seriously, you are very welcome, and have been a great addition to a great site. Keep those posts coming.
  11. I'm currently sending enough for all of us.....
  12. Jimmy, since you brought it up: Believe it or not David Anwar is not with Doc at Southern Miss. He is an assistant at North Texas, working for another former Husker assistant, Tony Benford.
  13. Leaving for a head coaching job would be totally acceptable. Leaving to be an assistant elsewhere right now would be devastating.
  14. I said previously after recent recruiting success that keeping Kenya Hunter was imperative. It is even more so now. Pay the man. Do whatever it takes.
  15. I like Miles' other tweet also: "OK. I think it's time to change my phone number". A sense of humor is certainly a requirement of this job.
  16. There is a cloud that follows Nebraska basketball around. There just is.
  17. This I would be floored if he ended up here. He has to end up here. Norm has already put him in his "Experience Returning" thread on the main board.
  18. Row 6 is The Man indeed.
  19. Completely disagree that the game was waaay more physical in the 80s. I would compare some old 80s film and see if screens were set like they are today; I believe they were not (and for those who think the NBA has gone all soft on physicality, review some of the screening from last night's game). I do agree with Dean's comments on AAU ball and fundamentals, but believe that the body type of players is way different than it was in the 80s and the game is more physical now.
  20. Time outs to the front court = NBA =Bad. Hope the amplified music doesn't turn it into a Stars hockey game. Signed, Grumpy old guy
  21. From a competitiveness standpoint, yes. From a basketball standpoint, not so much. I mourn over what has happened to pervert the game of basketball.
  22. Looks long, lean & underrated, and the following article (from April '15) seems to indicate the "underrated" won't last for long... Wonder if his father Greg Floyd Sr. was a hoopster of any acclaim??? http://lasvegassun.com/news/2015/apr/25/desert-pines-sophomore-getting-bigger-recruiting-w/ I'm shocked the Nike lovers on here haven't weighed in with the take that we have no chance at this guy due to that yellow t-shirt....
  23. Of course. We fret about everything related to Husker hoops. It's our job.
