Poaching through the Portal: Pick One
Faux Mike Peltz replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I’m going to break the rules and name two juniors that I would love to have. 1 would be Julian Reese from Maryland. 6’9”, 230 pounds, physical, athletic, and active. Averaging about 15 and 10 this season, a consistent double double guy. Could compliment Reink’s skill set, and Mast isn’t an elite rebounder by any means, Julian is. 2, And I’d like some input from those who know his game better than I do, but how about our backyard and getting Frankie Fidler?? 6’7”, 210, his season averages have gone from 12.8ppg frosh, 14.7ppg soph, and now 19.8ppg jr year. I think he’s a good shooter and could perhaps be a Griesel type player, though I do t think their games are identical. I’ve heard some on the board say they’d take him… @basketballjones what say you?? -

Norm's Conference Recognition Watch List
Faux Mike Peltz replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I think this will be a year that the coaches team looks a bit different than the writers. The coaches know the nightmare of KT and matchup problems Rienk poses and the do all that Gary brings…. -
Trust me on this. That team had more internal issues than this team does. I won’t go into too many specifics, but you had a mix of older players trying to quickly gel with the transfers Miles had brought in. Gallegos was used to getting many more shots than he did that year, a few players that had played larger roles the previous were largely relegated to the bench, and a player got kicked off the team during the season. But going on that hot streak cured a lot of issues. This team has a guy who transferred here under the assumption that last year’s top scoring threat wasn’t coming back, but then he did come back. So they’ve had to adjust and gel. The last few games, KT and Brice have communicated quite a bit, even just the two of them. They hunt shots, yes. But I think Norm’s observation about tonight was accurate. Let’s hope it was just a blip.

8 point lead doesn’t seem like much in this game for some reason. -

I really hope Mast gets some wind under his sails. He just doesn’t look like he’s at full Mast so far… -
uneblinst's postgame chatter: vol 16; ed 27 - Indiana

Nobody on the team has been perfect. Almost all of them have made me frustrated, at least once or twice this season, even KT, and I’m the biggest KT homer on the planet. But it shows we care and it makes it more rewarding when they play well and to their capabilities. I know we don’t want Jo taking a bunch of threes, but from the baseline, he’s actually pretty ok. Love it when he hits a big baseline three. -

BTW, I love it when KT or any other player goes on what Fred calls a “heater” Other guys sense it and find him and it has to be demoralizing to have a dude throwin up those shots and seeing them continue to go in. Would love to see the Indiana crowd’s reactions after some of those threes dropped -

Awesome to see J Law have his best game of the season and maybe his career. Everyone else brought the energy tonight. CJ wasn’t great and Mast didn’t have much wind in his sails, but other guys more than covered. A great team win! Chance to pay back the gophers -

J Law coming back to his freshman form is a nice development. Really nice. And is much needed as Wilcher has not had a great offensive game since Wiscy at PBA. He’s pump faking his 3’s and trying to put the ball on the floor and drive. He looks like a Mack truck taking off from an intersection. I really hope CJ gets his confidence back!! -

But medical hardships definitely still happen. It’s what I suspect Ramel is doing as well to preserve an extra year. -

I remember specifically people on this board commenting that it was probably for the best vs burning a year for basically less than a quarter of the season. I think. Now I’m questioning my memory!!! -
Very entertaining first half. Very enjoyable game overall, except the rather large lady who showed up halfway thru the first half and sat next to me while double fisting drinks - every time a Husker player would take a three she’d raise up her glass and spill beer on me. She also knocked a beer over and it spilled all over my coat, which was located under my seat. Oh well, at least she had fun, if she can remember any of it tomorrow morning. GBR

It’s already been announced by Coach Hoiberg a few games ago that Blaise was taking a medical redshirt this year. He moves like a 46 year old during warm ups. Serious. -
I think Brice is very talented. I liken his game to a poor man’s Andrew White. Maybe a bit quicker but not as great of a shooter. Brice has a nice mid range jump shot that can be very effective when he’s guarded by smaller guards. Defensively, he lacks the quickness to guard opposing guards, and even some wings. I think the thing that drives me and probably a lot of us diehards crazy at times are the mental lapses. Like dribbling off his leg going down the court. Or the top of the key, telegraphed, lazy passes. Or not appearing to go all out after a loose ball. Those drive me crazy. Last night he had a nice box out and rebound. He had a great fadeaway turnaround jumper. He is capable of really, really helping us. But I think he’s adjusting to a different role and sometimes playing out of his natural position. I’m tough on him but I really want to see him engaged and back with a killer’s mentality. Also, some people just have a demeanor to them that just naturally shows laidback, chill, aloof, etc… That may be part of it as well. I’m rooting for him, and all Huskers, to be able to be consistent.
