A guess of course, but I don't see us to much different ...scheme wise....than last year....but we may be a lot better at what we're trying to do.... than last season.

More experienced at pretty much all positions except the post...but faster guards.    ..and the kicker....we're going to be young, with about a third of the squad inexperienced, with one year at best for a couple ..... at the college game.

The following year should be much the same pattern.

Question now is where does Ohio State go?  I've heard Buzz Williams' name bandied about in conjunction with Buckeyes.

Not exactly. All indications though are pointing toward Sam Haiby (the 5'9 swing guard out of Moorhead, MN) listed above, as being a silent commit. Right now she's juggling her time playing for the North Titan AAU team and the Moorhead baseball team. I believe it's just a matter of time that she announces. A few other D-1 schools have jumped on her bandwagon lately though, namely Iowa State and Wisconsin.

Evan is a solid player who can/will contribute.  What that role will be, will be determined when this team is assembled and practices begin.  Evan is a glue player, and a leader.  This team will need him.

Yeah the one kid that got stabbed this year was my son's house mate.  Always been some rif between the two teams and it just got really bad one night.

The head football coach is also the athletic director, so if he stepped aside he would still have a job, a guess.

Never understood why that school didn't recruit the $h1t out of Omaha, Lincoln and Kansas City.  And then fill in with kids with in a 75 mile radius.  There are a bunch of really good high school football teams around there that I am sure guys would want to come play close to home.

Instead the football and basketball team's are filled with guys from all over the country, who show up.  See what it is like to live in a town of 600 people in Nebraska and are gone before the season is often over.

Oh well at least my son is getting a good education, is growing up and is enjoying himself.

This year the only playmakers were Tai and Glynn who could develop there own shot. Teams keyed on them and they became battered and bruises. There were glimpses of Jordy an Ed.  Next year there will be 4 transfers within  the top 11 players how they mesh with the other players and there injuries will be important.  By big 10 season next year starts I expect either Nana or Roby to start.  I hope Roby develops into his body.

I can guarantee that Nebraska had one of the least amount of assists in the Big 10.  Who is going to be that 2nd or 3rd playmaker next year? Here's hoping we can maybe steal a recruit from the coaching turnover at Indiana or Illinois.

I watched the game with Simeon.  Simeon did a box and 1 between both teams you had at least at  5 Division 1 basketball players. Nana definitely has the leadership that Nebraska needs. A great off guard who will probably start out in our system as a small forward. Andrew White shooting ability if not better but can develop his own shot

krazzykirk reacted to RedEyedFanatic in Watching a game with something on the line is stressful
I get the argument that this is all hindsight, but here is my deal, especially with the bigger guys who were playing last night.  Prior to this year, we had been starved for post players.  We have been filling that spot with a string of broken guys that we are just praying will get unbroken(Leslie, Moses, Copeland, probably Morrow, etc.) AND carrying at least one open scholarship for way too many years.  Why not take a flier on a Thurman?  Why not stick with Patton on the off chance he got his grades up?  Look, I was happy when we landed all of those broken big guys because I have super red kool-aid glasses on most of the time.  I was super juiced when we got Coleman(yay 5 star!), but the cold reality is we probably shouldn't be banking on a guy coming off of back surgery.  Who knows, I'm just tired of seasons like this one that limp to the finish and need to vent.

That of course is assuming what we currently have doesn't get completely blown up.
How many from that Sophomore and Freshman class have been redshirted? None. Any of them could easily transfer.
My argument, which still holds up, is to build up depth, have a solid Fr-Sr group of players. At that point we could survive a coach firing.
Our program is not at place where we can fire a coach and just move forward without having to take a 3-5yr step back.

I'm not sure if I was in the minority or the majority, but I didn't expect much this year. We're young, and my hope was that the team would have it together at the end of the season so we could see how great things could be next year. But right now we don't have a realistic chance of getting to .500 and we're at 93 in KenPom. That's not much of a platform to build off of. Things can change, and the next win will make the clouds part, but for right now .... sad.

    Player to watch: Caleb Swanigan
After struggling last year the 5 star McDonald's All-American is essentially a lock for 1st team All-B1G. The future NBA player is averaging a double-double and is shooting 50% from 3.

    The Skinny
Ed Morrow is a game time decision. He's practiced the last two days and he's expected to come back either today or Thursday vs Michigan St.

Purdue's big front line of Swanigan, Isaac Hass, and Vincent Edwards gets all the attention but it's the 3pt shooting guards that Matt Painter rolls out that makes Purdue such a load offensively. How much can Jacobson slow down Swanigan? Who is slowing down Swanigan when he's on the floor with Haas? How many minutes can a foul prone Jordy play against a front court that generates a lot of contact? The Purdue offense typically works quickly so it's really about pushing pace in order to goad the Boilermakers into quick shots they hopefully won't make nor rebound for easy put backs.

Offensively, the Boilermakers don't foul a lot but they have a surprising lack of blocks and turnovers. I admittedly have not seen enough of them to know whether teams cannot penetrate past the guards with ease or if teams don't want to drive the lane against the height of Purdue. Look for vary their attack based on whether or not Haas is on the floor for rim protection.

This Purdue team is 2-2 on the road including an Iowa team that shot the ball well and made a defensive stand in the end. This is the sort of effort that it will take from Nebraska to win this one. The Huskers changed up their routine to stay at a hotel tonight. Is that the boost they need? Do they have the confidence to make shots in this game?

Prediction: Purdue 82 Nebraska 72 with a 68% chance of Runzas

Wish I had been here in time to post that.

Here's something weird...I think I knew Cordell Pemsl when he was about 3 years old. His aunt was on the track team I coached at the University of Dubuque. She also played volleyball, basketball and softball (I lost her for her last year even though she had been a national qualifier) during her career. She used to babysit him and he hung around the athletic offices.

Another small world story ties into this...his aunt was a thrower and the throws coach (who I had no say in hiring, even though I was head track coach) was Brett Diersen, who was later a GA or video coordinator at Nebraska under Pelini. He then went to Indiana with Mike Ekeler. I think she switched to softball largely because he didn't know anything about the throws. Such is life at the DIII level, and one of many reasons I'm an accountant now.

krazzykirk reacted to Dean Smith in Rotation
I'm not sure how you would run the rotations on your 1-3-1 but you usually don't want one of your best rebounders running to the corner. Traditionally, you want the length on the wings to get in passing lanes and for rebounding when they are on the weak side.

1-3-1 when you have Jordy in the middle and 3-2 when he's not. You get much better 3-point defending out of a 3-2 when all 5 players guard out to the line. You get better coverage and shorter rotations to get out there.

I feel that we would've been in on Chandler if
    1. We weren't so forward heavy to begin with
    2. He didn't play so soft for a center
    3. Academics weren't an issue
    4. The last player Miles went after from Omaha Central didn't end up like Deverell Biggs did. Interesting to see Harriman pounce on a Nebraska kid though. Can only wish him the best, but also hope he doesn't add to the in state stigma that continues to plague Coach Miles in the media.

One thing to consider and I truly think this affected us after the michigan st game. Purdue has the iowa game on the road and then plays 8pm on Wednesday at Minnesota....so they could be gassed. With our sicknesses and injury the I think the break comes at a good time.dealing with their height and transition will be tough.
