  1. what could possibly be the hold up? man, the ncaa is awful with these situations... is there something you guys don't know about isaac's case? this is baffling to me
  2. solid pickup for Miles. The combination of height and mobility is useful at any level of D1...i think the biggest factor for brady going forward is developing his body and, once he arrives on campus, adjusting from the class b level of competition to the big ten level. Could Miles end up pulling out a redshirt for him? That could help Brady make up a ton of ground. He was a guy I would have liked to see in blue, but I respect his decision in not choosing to reclassify...
  3. maybe an an unnecessary bump but patton essentially gets another 'redshirt' year, broken foot same as what happened to Embiid and Simmons. I was excited to see him grab whatever minutes he could, Thibs seemed high on him as well, now a year off the court has me worried for his future acclimation to the speed of the nba. Got his money tho!
  4. 11th and Garfield - I swear there are a few intersections around that part of town that aren't properly 'stop-signed'
  5. Wow, if any of what I read on shockernet, phog etc is true then yeah that is really alarming. Weed and alcohol is one thing, xanax is more or less a hard drug though...if you hear those rumors what do you do if you're Self?
  6. Not surprised to see him do this at all. I'll be more surprised if he slips past 20. It was a weak class for centers before any injury concerns about Giles had been raised. He gets his paycheck and the best coaching and skills work in the world. The only thing coming back would have accomplished would be adding some bulk. Not exactly something that can't be done as a professional. If you have the talent to play in the league, and I 100% believe he does, playing in college does little to prepare you more for the transition
  7. I would honestly not be surprised if he ended up downgrading. That or he ends up at an Auburn or Boston College
  8. Looking at the youtube vid from a couple months ago...a mechanical shot for sure. It doesn't look like he's shooting with the momentum of his jump. But its a reasonably quick release and, at least from that one game, looks relatively consistent. Definitely looks like a player to count on for knocking down shots. But you just never know with true freshmen, especially underrecruited ones who have been less scrutinized .
  9. Only name I've seen mentioned here that I don't like is Gottfried...he is a good recruiter, but basically every nationally ranked kid he signed while at nc was from the mid atlantic/coastal plains region. A lot of talent out there to gobble up even for a middle of the road ACC program. Not sure he could replicate the level of recruiting success here in Nebraska/ big ten country. While at Alabama he did have moments of true success, his tenures at both programs fizzled out in similarly unspectacular fashion, and for the level of talent he had these last couple years his teams sorely underachieved. I don't think he is right for the job
  10. didn't find a wingett thread - thought I'd put this here, a vid I found scrolling FB this morning pretty nasty stuff
  11. Realized I didn't really answer your questions. At this point, yes, 13-0 looks likely heading into New Years. Looking back, I wish we'd had more true road games, but we have true road tests against Butler, Nova, and Xavier to look forward to so its not the end of the world. The level of competition in our noncon allowed the team to gel, still nowhere close to playing to the level of basketball that they are capable of. Playing so well in the noncon has put us in control of our destiny regarding seeding. Plenty of opportunities left for this team to prove itself to the committee.
  12. Truthfully, 49r, I did not expect this team to win against Wisky. Nor did I expect us to come out of Paradise Jam undefeated. NC State and Ole Miss aren't slouches So, I guess I have to give credit to ya, I didn't foresee the improvement in one of our sophomores, as well as the level of consistent production from a redshirt freshman so those two factors have completely changed my outlook on this season. I was trying to temper expectations for a team that had a few question marks. Wasn't sandbagging, I promise. I think you will give us a good run for our money tomorrow at PBA. Its College Basketball baby, anything can happen
  13. both Justin and khyri's recruiting periods were very bizarre. the second our staff found out khyri was attending prep school, they offered and he committed. I'm not sure/ can't remember if there was some formal agreement before it all went down. Was it just academics that kept Miles away from him? I will say this, aguek never looked the part of big ten player to me, but ever since khyri won the boys and girls club slam dunk contest I've wanted him on CU's roster. I think it was just a miss, talent eval wise, and locking up aguek at a way too early date was a knee jerk reaction
  14. Trifecta is good people, I think you guys would appreciate his posts. Man, @49r , and you called ME out for sandbagging?? This Hoops_Legend guys hails from the sahara for crying out loud..
  15. It makes more sense to play a more difficult conference schedule. Noncon is about confidence for your newcomers, plus one or maybe two big tests to properly gauge where you stand. That test is Wisconsin for us, and kinda NC state if we get to play them. Izzo and Self are scheduling nightmare noncon slates because they know what walks through the doors of their gym every October. Most other coaches can't rely on superhuman players that adjust to the game day one. If we didn't have the Wisconsin game, I would say this is a comparatively weak power conference noncon schedule.
  16. Well, two games against Nova, Xavier, Seton Hall, and Butler during conference play should provide us with ample schedule strength, and scheduling weak noncon opponents is a fairly commonplace practice for power conference programs, so I'm not too concerned about it. Also 49r, I don't think many programs' fanbases are talking about Final Four appearances in the preseason unless you're Duke, Kansas, UK, or a returning Final Four team with a relatively intact roster. I sure know that most Creighton fans I interact with aren't saying such ludicrous things...also Wisconsin is ranked ahead of us in preseason polls. Should be a fun game, but pretty much the furthest thing from the truth to lose to a team ranked ahead of you and for the outcome to be "damn near criminal" Just my two cents tho inb4 49r says he was just trolling
  17. i think this is a good option for him, he may be able to get some PT early on and can develop into a solid 4 year player. but right now I'm not sure he is high major material
  18. three keys 1. your freshmen have to gel immediately 2. your two sophomores have to show massive growth 3. gill has to be all that has been advertised
  19. Both college and pro sports have become such a large pillar of American society that its only natural for politics to make its way onto the field, one way or another. I personally have no problem with athletes using the platform they've worked so hard to achieve for the expression of political opinions. I don't find the act itself annoying, but all of the crappy regurgitated media coverage/facebook sh*tposting we're forced to put up with about it.
  20. I hope that you can take my opinion as unbiased, as I have been a fan of Coach McDermott's for quite some time (pre CU days), and I've been to a lot of CU's practices in the past couple years.... But I think Zay has a much higher ceiling than Harrell. RH is a very nice player, but he's a great role player that is a second or third option guy. Zay has the potential to be "the guy" for a team. Again, just my opinion - not trying to knock Ronnie AT ALL. Just think Zay is a hidden treasure that could be a team's number one option. But I certainly understand your comparison. Its not so much an issue of talent. Just based off how little his body has improved, plus rumors that he doesn't work on his game off the court, doesn't seem like he's ready for a bigger role. We will see where he's at at the end of the season, but I'm not holding my breath. Roby should be a much better player
  21. All along, isaiah has constantly reminded me of CU redshirt sophomore Ronnie Harrell, mainly because of their size and the makeup of their game. Roby added way more muscle in one summer than Ronnie Harrell has in his two years on CU's campus. I'm excited to see him take the court.
  22. shavon looks like the type of player that will have a very long and lucrative career in europe
  23. Honestly I think if Aguek had said yes to the prep school option, it could have ended up even worse for Miles. Imagine if he goes and joins the team in '17, and its still clear to the staff he is not a big10 player.... let's just say that would not have been pretty. Developing a guard skillset when you were a power forward as an underclassmen is really difficult. I saw him play before his knee injury and he did not look anything like a perimeter player. It has been awhile since then so I want to see him play sometime this winter. Still, I'll be surprised if he gets offers from schools outside of the Summit/MVC/WAC/ the bottom feeders of the American.
  24. If I were a Syracuse fan I would be fed up with the guy's bullsh*t. He's treating this like he's a top market NBA free agent. http://syracusefan.com/threads/andrew-white-iii-thread-post-wisely.106923/page-64 On their basketball board, they think he's coming and people are saying he's on campus. Why no announcement????
