Nebraska on the Selection Committee Board
HuskerPower #nato73 replied to hhctony's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I vouch not for it's accuracy but the computers don't like us. Not only do we have the losses at our best opportunities (KU and CU for example), we also have the weird scheduling quirk where we play the 5 other good teams in the conference once and the three best all on the road. Our "profile" looks mid-major-ish and that's unfortunately the way it is. I am focusing my cheering on hoping we get the double-bye in the conference tourney and then letting the chips fall where they may because there is nothing we can do about it at this point. If we end up as a 22 win NIT team then I hope we will win several more games and set-up a great base for next year. -

We have a team that is top half of the league and bordering on top 3rd, along with every indication that we will be in this area next year. We have one of the best home environments in the conference. We need to use where we are at right now, this year and next as a stepping stone and not a time to tear down what has been built. Coach Miles should be extended and given a vote of confidence, so we can start to replace what we will lose after our Sweet 16 run next year. It has not been a straight ride, We are going to end up with 2 post season in 6 years (next year will likely be 3 in 7) but we now have talent we have not had in 20 years.

I think their is a realistic scenario where they could go 13-5 and still end up as a Tier 1 win for us. So I am okay with them winning tonight if they find two more losses. I am hoping for a 13-5 tie where we get the bye and then another shot at them. In my dreamt up scenario our only remaining loss is at Minnesota. -

Note that the field expanded to 68 teams and play in games in 2011. -

Assuming we do what we need to do on our end (win two on the road and protect the home floor) we will have another opportunity for a bigger scalp in the BIG 10 tourney. Perhaps a 4/5 matchup with Michigan. -

A lot of statistical toss-ups. Should be entertaining! -
Rumour du jour: Possible Jordy Transfer

I don't get where people are talking about his "handlers." Does anyone know that he actually has handlers? I think he just has a big (literally) family that cares about him. They may be in his ear, they may be giving him bad advice, who knows. I don't think it is a great thing to do to your teammates, but I think there could be a lot more factors going on in the young man's head than we realize. This will get worked out in the next few days and we will either move on without him or the team will work through taking him back. Not an ideal time to deal with it that is for sure. I will root for who is out there this week because it is a big week to protect the vault. -

I don't get the Miles doesn't develop players take. I think Petteway and Webster developed very well, even Borchardt is. Other than opinion how does one establish what coaches develop players well and which ones do not. It seems like it is hard to measure whether it is coach development or player ceiling that determines and work that determines whether a player improves. Not trying to start something with ya' Royal just wondering if there is more to discuss here. I look at Daum and Kaminsky as guys that really developed. I suppose if you win games and players improve you get the credit right? -

My theory is that it is a little more of a Pitchford type burnout. He retweeted something over the break about how college players should get a 5 day break for the holidays. He has not played basketball that long and he comes from a large close family. A little burnout, disappointment, homesickness etc. I think is more of a factor than he thinks some other coach could make him an all american. But hey that is just my theory. -

This would hurt. He was effective against Wisconsin. Just being hard to move out of the middle is worth something. For those clamoring for Roby (and I love Roby) he can struggle on post defense. If it is true, not a great thing to do to a team on which you are a starter. -
Totally agree with your comment on Eades. He lectured Evan Taylor after he shot the ball from the foul line after the whistle blew so they could check who was fouled. Evans flicked up a shot and missed and you can see Eades telling him that he should make him have only one shot left. The shooter was then switched to Glynn. Why doesn't your crew figure out was fouled and get the right shooter to the line in the first place? There are only 5 dudes to choose from. Boom!

Not sure how accurate rpiforecast.com is but at 19-12, they project our RPI at 83! Yikes! I want to see a top half of conference finish and let the chips fall where they may.
