Officiating didn’t lose us this game. They let us play physical defense. We shot poorly and any time we had a chance in the first half to put some distance between us we missed key shots.  Had numerous chances to tie or take the lead in the second half and missed some good looks and they answered with some tough makes. They had a lot of transition points off of really great looks we had. You’re not gonna win when you shoot 38% on the road and the other team shoots 40% from 3. We missed a lot of shots close to the rim and they got some timely offensive rebounds. We ended up with shorter guards on Battle and he hit some tightly guarded 3s against smaller players.  We did okay on the glass. They were money from the line. Overall I thought we played decent.  Sometimes it’s a make or miss game.  It’s not always poor officiating and it is deflection from the reality of not being the better team tonight.

You can’t expect to shoot more free throws every time when you jack up 3s at a league leading rate.

My theory. Coach Fred he has showed he will play the ‘big’ lineup that he starts.  It was a disaster the first game we rolled it out but I think it has sent a message to our guards that we are going to rely on defense and toughness. I think there has been an uptick from guys like Williams and KT on defense and physicality rebounding because they know Fred will roll with a lineup with Gary at the 3….thus making back court minutes a premium and if you’re not gonna bring it on D or have great decision making you may not get minutes.

AP rankings don’t matter. If any player on this team or the coaches feel it is necessary then our ceiling is capped. I listened to Mizzou fans whine about it all the way up until the got embarrassed by Princeton last year. Playing with a chip on your back will only take you so far.

The way our defense has evolved has been very beneficial. We are vary our looks and doubles more. And with consistency and health in the lineup we have a little wrinkle or two every game to get us buckets. Unfortunately the best wrinkle we ran tonight ended up in a KT missed layup. But it makes us harder to scout and in turn makes us harder to guard

It’s really unfortunate that all the people that quit following this team after the 2nd half meltdown at Minnesota didn’t stick around. We’ve done so well. I’m sure none of the people that wrote this team off 2 months ago will read this but I’m so happy for these players and coaches!  Keep it up!

Kesei has been pulling the string on his 3 point shots the last 6 games or so. He won’t be sure he elite shooter that he can be if he doesn’t fix his mechanics. I don’t recall exactly when it started but he hit the game winner 3 with poor follow through mechanics and it has continued the last 3 games. He had a couple of wide open ones tonight that he didn’t have to hurry to get off and had bad mechanics. Got to get it fixed

Got picked up as a 9th-10th man a few times.  Got to waller around on the skins team against some of the younger post players and push around Vinson Hamilton a bit on help D. Couldnt guard Troy Piatkowski very well so guess I was a liability on D so the couple times I eventually got moved to the young post guys (Brant Harriman maybe?)  Since I was the shortest guy on the skins team T Lue got the assignment to guard me so I tried to post him a lot. Scored a little face up jumper on him from the right block.  Belcher knew where to find the mismatch!!  Was more fun to watch Cookie and Larry Florence go at it and marvel at Belchers length and Larry’s calves.

Got walk on Andy Scheindt to sneak into a residence hall tourney semifinal with us.

Too many football player encounters to remember.

Anyone ever play with high jumper Shane Lavy? He was fun to throw 3/4 court oops to and had a Shawn Marion jump shot.

I pretty much lived at the rec so got lots of action.  Shevin Wiggins and Eric Warfield played all the time. Tommie Frazier was good passer and John Cook had a good midrange game. Boyd Eppley was rather aggressive and intense. Wish I would have written all the encounters down in a notebook or something because it was actually quite amazing looking back.

Bet if you go in on Thursday at 1130 you can pry still get in a game with coach cook.....and 1/4 of the history professors. Anyone on the ‘noonball’ Facebook group?
