The connection to note for Eli Rice to Penn St is that Rice was heavily recruited by VCU who at the time was coached by now Penn St coach Mike Rhodes.

If you can get PGs that can hit 3s or post players that can hit threes, great. However at some point it's important to value defending and rebounding as well given they're factors to winning. As long as Fred has self-starting guys, he's more than capable of adjusting his gameplan.

Griffiths reminds me of former Terp Kevin Huerter. And that's meant as a compliment.

  7. 1. William Kyle III 2. William Kyle III 3. William Kyle III 4. William Kyle III If saying the same name 3 times doesn't improve the odds of landing him, then I'll go with this: 1. William Kyle III 2. Igor Milicic (I'm assuming Mast is out next year) 3. A big time shooter who knows his role. 4. Matar Diop . . . more specifically a big athletic project who doesn't expect minutes and can give you a good look on the scout team. (I'm assuming this player will transfer out no matter what unless you catch lightning in a bottle) * I thought about getting a lock-down defender, but I'm thinking our defense will take a big jump just because we are adding a lot more length and athleticism to the scheme.

I like tying it to academic standing, just to keep it loosely related to being a college sport still.

The cost of bling! Great players come at a great monetary cost. But there can also be a cost relating to team commraderie and chemistry. Player A may have a lot of talent and wants to be the main dude and get the highest number of shots; but it could isolate that player from the remainder of the team...and what you get, is what we had, the first couple years under Fred. So it becomes a high pressure, highly important balancing act when we are building the team via the portal. We seem to be getting the right type of players as we build our roster. But if certain players want certain $$$ or guarantees, I assume they are advised to move on. So when I see a player we seemed to want, move on to greener pastures, my initial reaction is angst. It then dawns on me that perhaps the coaches and administration likely are fully vetting the potential roster invitee, and perhaps decided independently or mutually, that Player A best play elsewhere.

Not joking, Runza in general (and Temperature Tuesday in particular) is one of the things I miss the most after moving out of state.

  13. I hope NU can still snag an athletic wing player as well as another big... maybe Milicic and/or WK-III would fit, even both of 'em, as NU needs to shore up the interior and athleticism factors going into a 18-team Big Ten. It will be BRUTAL to face, so as many big dawgs will help the cause at securing that elusive M.M. victory, hopefully in Wichita, KS, in 2025 !!

  15. Nick Kern and Zach Hicks are both similar in stature to Eli but they are tenacious defenders and they play exactly the way Mike Rhoades wants to play. I wouldn't be surprised if we see Eli in the portal again next year.

Between family and friends, we have Nebraskan houseguests at least 2x per year. I usually ask for them to bring frozen Runzas. And this is probably odd, but the other thing I have them bring is Hy-Vee’s pineapple bratwursts from their butcher counter.

This is the Instagram post you make after you think you made the wrong college choice because you didn't get as much playing time as you wanted. Maybe he's star at Penn St or maybe this is his second stop on the way to his 3rd or even 4th stop. Time will tell.

Looks like a moot point but you change what you do a little bit for guys like him. You don’t turn down physical monsters just because he doesn’t space the court great.

Biggest Fear #204748- We get torched by a former player in a game that matters. Best of luck to Eli. Hope he finds a solid role and scores 15 PPG except against us.

  22. Im shocked by that move... Really odd. He is from Nashville so doesnt seem much closer to home to me. Don't believe Fred pushed him out after constantly praising him throughout the season last year.

  23. Eli Rice to Penn State... Which is a big... "Uhmmmm, ok?" to me. Makes me feel like he was pushed out here or something. Feel like any opportunity he'll have at Penn State he would have had here. Is he closer to home now or something?

  30. Fred absolutely loved Jameel McKay, who I think William Kyle is a carbon copy of. He can do a lot with a real lob threat who can run the floor like a deer.

  34. Allick was 8-22 from 3. He attempted less than 1 three per game and on average made one 3 pointer every 4 games played. Rienk Mast was 42-122. Andrew Morgan was 12-33. Igor Milicic was 56-149. IMO, we need 2 of these 3 above and we'll be fine, and then Kyle will do things on the court none of our other bigs could do last year. I expect Brice to carry a much bigger shooting load with Keisei gone, and Griffiths will make a huge leap over his Rutgers production. Lost in all that is Nick Janowski, who I've been really high on and still think can have a role, especially if he comes in this summer and establishes himself as a shooter. We're also still trying to land Essiegan. Also, no one has seen Ahron Ulis shoot a basketball since having Fred Hoiberg coach him for 12 months. I do not think it's unreasonable to think he can match Jamarques' numbers (36-101, 35.6%) while doing everything else at the PG spot better. Fred Hoiberg is not going to have a roster short on shooters.

I sort of look at it this way; Keisei's replacement is already on the roster. His name is BRICE WILLIAMS.

  36. Igor Kyle After those two, I am pretty flexible. I would maybe flex towards youth/projects/specialists.
    1 point
  37. I really like Igor Milicic and the versatility he can bring. William Kyle would be great to take defensive pressure off our bigs who can move around bit. With those two holes filled I would love to bring in guys who can come in and learn and grow. Ideally play a bit but be future guys who actually want to stick around. With how Hoiberg has done it, I don’t see us using more than 8… maybe 9 guys and we have about hit that number. Still think we probably need another shooter but maybe the incoming freshmen fill that void. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Great pickup. 5* kid who needed a year to put his game together at the B1G level. This is one of those situations where you’re happy to be the player’s second stop rather than the school he chose out of high school. Rutgers got him when he was pure potential. We got him for the year(s) he will be productive.

  39. This. And I'm glad we're not selling our soul to just go get the most athletic guys out there just to try and beat 2024 Texas A&M that shot unbelievable from 3 and would have beaten almost anyone on that night. We have to continue doing the model that has won us Big Ten games over the last 14 months, which is smart, hard-working, unselfish, experienced dudes who can shoot and will give max effort on defense. You can't win a tournament game if you can't get to the tournament. After the A&M game, some fans seem to think we should be getting athletic freaks and that those same players will also be great shooters and super effective in Fred's 5-out offense and will also have the discipline, work ethic and attitude of a Sam Griesel/Sam Hoiberg. Newsflash: if you are all of those things you are in the NBA or getting offered by UConn/North Carolina/Kansas/Duke.

Gotta make sure you’re a good candidate for it though. I have a cousin who went blind in one eye after. I mostly wear contacts and for me, the risk of losing my sight is definitely not worth removing the inconvenience of taking contacts in and out everyday.
