  1. This basketball season is lost. No ifs, and, or buts about it. But this is one of those days for me that puts life into context, and in a good way. My wife and I have been foster parents to a joyful little boy for the last 678 days. We've been in and out of the hospital with him with a variety of issues, among them two cranial reconstruction surgeries. It's been a long, long journey, but in a few short hours he will be ADOPTED. He is my son. He is home forever, and we are eternally grateful. So even though we're mired in the middle of the most Nebrasketball-ish Nebrasketball season ever, all is not lost in my home today. All is found.

    The Best

I'm not exactly sure why I am motivated to suspend my longtime status as fan and lurker of the best Husker basketball site on the planet. On second thought, I do know. I am so juiced that I may never come down. Actually I just wanted to join the fray here briefly after one of the very best times in my broadcast career. This season has been the best. The Wisconsin game was the best. Tim Miles and his staff are the best. These players are the best. The Vault is the best. Nebrasketball fans are the best. The RedZone is the best. Heck, even Matt Davison is the best. Thanks to all of you for your meaningful, funny, heartfelt and insightful discourse on the site. I've enjoyed it for many years. We share a passion that has been a relatively small fraternity over the years. And the fact that we now need a bigger bandwagon, well, that's best of all. Finally, you all are the best. Carry on.

  3. i have to get this off my chest. This site is the best place for me to be even when we are picking on each other like family does. The real reason I say that is and I don't want to sound to morbid but I got the call this morning that my Mom who has been in hospice for the last month was most likely not going to make it through the day. They were right. She passed this afternoon around 2ish and after all the whirl wind stopped I checked here because I needed to go somewhere else but couldn't leave the room. First thing I see is that we get Allen. and I start to read the different reactions and I am now crying because I am laughing so hard. Thanks guys for making my world "normal" for this little bit of my day. "Boom goes the dynomite!"

  4. This thread isn't about Nebraska Basketball, but, maybe there are some parallels. I want to give an update on my son Seth's health. For you new to the board, he has a condition called MDS--basically it's a form of leukemia. His body has an inability to produce red blood cells. This disease normally attacks the body's ability to produce white cells, but not in Seth's case. He's an anomaly there. Let me cut to the chase: A new drug was approved for the treatment of MDS and Seth has been on it for the last 9 weeks. We didn't know if insurance would cover the cost ---$2000 or more a month. They did. Since his last transfusion two weeks ago, his red blood cell count has actually risen. That's never happened in the last seven years! Thanks for all your support and prayers! As for Nebraska Basketball? They'll be fine. The mountain of low performance is a one year deal. I can't wait for next year, and the rest of the years in the Hoiberg tenure!

  5. Forget the tournament conversations for a moment. I want more seasons like this. The fact that were here in the second week of March and the dialogue on HHC is alive and well is so refreshing. Many of us have been through the years on HHC where conversations tend to die around January, where non-regulars become even more irregular, and those who are champions for sticking it out tend to have conversations about NyQuil, the angle a player's knee bends, and the decor of an opposing player's parent's basement. Thank you all for being here in March. Seriously. I want more seasons like this, both on and off the court. Cheers.

  6. I just wanted to thank all the posters that have been here for years. You have made this a fabulous website. Way to go, guys! My lack of posting here over the last 18 months has nothing to do about anything political. I have given up following sports. There are more important things in life. Many here have supported my son Seth's battle with MDS with money and prayers over the last several years. Here's an update: Seth and Mrs. cip have been at Mayo since May 15. Seth had his blood marrow transplant last Thursday. So far, so good. If everything proceeds well, they will be back home the middle of September. It's been a long ass journey, and I thank everyone here for helping. The hardest part for me being alone is trying to cook for one. So, if anyone wants to come to Stromsburg for a steak or a burger, let me know. It's on me. GBR!

  7. I couldn't agree more that he made the smart move. Thomas Allen is a good kid and I can say this confidently after a personal interaction I had with him after the Butler game. As a lot of you probably know, about 30 minutes after home games a lot of the players come out of the locker room to see friends, family or to sign autographs for kids. We were tipped off to this nugget last year after the UTSA game. My 9 year old couldn't have been more thrilled to meet his favorite players. My son and I drive back for a game once a year but made a second trip this year over his spring break to see the NIT game. One player he had never gotten a chance to meet during the three games we had seen in person, including Butler, was his favorite player - Isaiah Roby. We were meandering around the players tunnel a good 45 minutes after the Butler game and the security guard told everyone that was left that the Arena was closing in 10 minutes. The security guard and I got in a conversation and I was explaining to him that we were from Colorado and my son was hoping to meet Isaiah. We were told that there were other NIT media obligations for certain members of the team and that most players wouldn't be coming out. Well, Thomas Allen was standing pretty close by and happened to hear part of the conversation as he didn't have the same media obligations since he didn't play. He asked me who my son was trying to meet and I told him Isaiah. He whipped out his phone and called Isaiah on the spot and asked him where he was because "there was a kid from Denver that came all the way out to the game to meet him". Isaiah was getting treatment on his legs but told Thomas that we was more than happy for him to bring me and my son back so that he could meet him. Thomas escorted us back to the locker room and my son got the opportunity to meet his favorite player: Whatever Thomas Allen decides to do is ok in my book. Coaches can leave on their own or get fired and the kids are stuck either having to play for a new coach they don't know or potentially lose a year by transferring. I hope to see Thomas back in a Husker uniform but wish him nothing but the best wherever he goes. I'll be a fan of his wherever he is playing. I should also add that Roby couldn't have been any more generous with his time. He talked to my son for a few minutes, signed his poster, and certainly didn't have to take time out of his treatment. One thing I can say about every player we've met and quite honestly, we've met just about everyone over our past 3 trips is that all of those young men on the team were very respectful and gracious with the time they gave the hoard of kids after each game. I think this is a testament to Coach Miles and the character of the players he brought into Lincoln.

  8. Some of you guys who are still "on the fence" with Miles, or are certain we could easily hire someone else to do better, must be pretty young. I'm not. I ain't gonna live forever. I want to see this NCAA tournament winless drought end. I'd like to see it go down this year and, if we make the tournament, I think it will. I think we're good enough to win at least a first-round game. Our resume might prevent us from proving we could do it, but just get this team in the tournament and I think they'll show they're a match-up nightmare for the Dance. If you read my posts over time, which some people probably do and a lot probably don't, you'll note that I'm usually an optimist, but a guarded optimist, really. You haven't heard me pronounce every team over the last dozen or so years (since I found this site) to be the best team in a generation. I've basically said that for the first time, though, about this squad. And it clearly is. But a generation is a loooooooooong time. By the mid-90s walk-out time, I'd felt Danny Nee had run his course here. When he thought he was going to get the Rutgers job and announced that he basically never felt like he wanted to be here, he lost the fanbase. When they finally fired him, I was extremely hopeful. But, as some have pointed out recently, from about the very first game under Collier (or, really, even over the summer when we saw the recruits he was bringing in) it was like, oooh boy, what have we gotten ourselves into? Collier was here six years before he took another job. Wasn't fired; would have been here a 7th had Butler not offered him the AD position. Doc was here six years. Miles has now been here six years. And if you don't think Miles is the right guy or are on the fence about him, how many more coaches-times-six-years are you willing to wait to find that right guy? How confident are you that we just need to open up the check book to bring in that coach who will put this program on the proverbial map? How certain are you that it's just that simple? It's been 18 seasons since Danny Nee was fired. In that 18 years, we've been .500 or better in conference play just twice: once under Doc Sadler; and in Tim Miles' second season. We're about to go over .500 in conference play for just the third time in 18 years. Two of those three under Tim Miles. And people are on the fence. We're within striking distance of making the NCAA tournament field for just the second time in 20 years. Both would be under Tim Miles. And people are on the fence. If you motherfuckers can't live with a couple of down seasons every now and then while a guy tries to build a program, and demand we fire the coach every six years, I am going to be dead before we win an NCAA tourney game. And if that happens, I'm going to be really pissed. And I will haunt this board with error messages and banner ads for "Bluejay Pest Control" for all eternity. Got it?

    Little side note

As I was sitting watching the game and listening to the young family behind me trying to keep their youngest entertained. They do a great job by the way 4 under the age of 7 I think the mom said, second year behind me and they are wonderful. Any how that made me look at two of my three that were with me. I started bringing them, one at a time then all three, more than 20 some years, as my oldest is 29 and I pretty sure I started him when he was at least 3 or 4. But then it kind of hit me that this is my 52 year of Nebraska Basketball, but will be the first without my Mom. She passed in April after suffering a stroke last October. She is the one that started taking me to games when I was 4 because my dad worked nights and I think I might have needed to burn off some energy back then. I went to games with her until I was in Jr. High and started going with friends. Mom never went to games with me after that but I know that she and Dad watched them on T.V. I just want to say "Thanks Mom for starting my love of Nebraska Basketball" I know the day when we do win that first NCAA game that I will think back to me making Mom announce my name and I would run into the my bed room and jump into bed. "Starting at forward, a 4'6" Junior from Lincoln Nebraska..."

  12. There is a need to reiterate the fact that Coach Miles IS a good coach. He would not have worked up to this level in the business if he was not a good coach. He was in fact, coach of the year just a couple years ago. He is well respected by his peers and he will not be unemployed long, once he leaves Nebraska. It simply isn't working out at this point. There are a number of reasons or perhaps excuses why, but it does appear the end is near in the Miles/Nebraska relationship. There is absolutely no reason or excuse to bash him, denigrate him or to create issues that aren't real issues. Goodness, he respects the university and has publicly said good things about our Director of Athletics. Nebraskans are supposed to have class, perhaps we should exhibit some of that class as this season winds down.

  13. And while I might not agree with it, Fred Hoiberg is the coach of the basketball team I cheer for and I am going to pull for this team to succeed as fervently as I have for any 4th year coach in the history of the program. I want this to succeed. At this point, Fred is my coach and I'm going to be behind him until we see what things look like next season. And I will hope that I can continue to be behind him even then. I hope he succeeds. I really, really do.

  14. I'll take this one. He & the staff are meticulous teachers and game-planners, who demand maximum effort & attention to detail. There is nice balance between those expectations and acknowledging and/or critiquing performance. That creates a standard that, in turn, creates pride and improvement in team. That's how I've seen it. I've always been impressed and even motivated myself by being able to hang around a lot. Believe me, the vibe is spot-on.

  15. This is going to take awhile, so please be patient with me. Years and years ago, soon after Dave started this website, a poster by the name of jimmykc (couldn't figure out why a guy from Kansas City was a Husker bball fan) started a thread called Enjoy Every Sandwich. I wondered what the heck he was talking about. Well, it was a reference to Warren Zevon's dealing with cancer. When you're diagnosed with it, that's what you do. All the little things, no matter how small, take on new meaning. You learn an appreciation for them. Jimmy, at that time, told us about the battle he was facing. Thank you, my friend, for sharing the beginning of that war. Had you not done that, I wouldn't have known you were victorious at battle's end. I wish I could tell you that I'm facing that same battle against cancer, but I can't. I would trade places in a heartbeat. My 23 year old son Seth has been diagnosed with MDS--Myelodysplastic Syndromes. It's in the leukemia family. (kind of the same way that Baal is in the Beelezubub family). He's a trooper. He's spent two weeks at UNMC, undergone 3 bone marrow biopsies, 15 blood transfusions and numerous other tests. And guess what? He's still working! And always has a smile on his face. I love that kid! So why am I sharing? Several reasons. 1) Don't sweat the little stuff. I mean," why didn't you throw your dirty clothes in the hamper" bitching really sucks. 2) I don't care how old you are, you're not guaranteed tomorrow. 3) focus on the important things--God, family and doing good. And last, but most importantly, when Seth is completely healed, God is gonna get a big High Five! Speaking of "High Five, A Cancer Survivor's Poetic Journey" page 55. "Medicine is the art of taking strangers' problems and treating them like your own. Poetry is the art of taking your own problems And sharing them with strangers." Thanks, jimmy.

  16. Took my 3 boys and my brother-in-law to our first game at PBA. Drove over 2,200 miles to get there just for the game! Okay, maybe it’s because we are moving from BC to Ontario and stopped for a few days at my in-laws near Council Bluffs. But when I saw the game was on the schedule with senior night, I knew we needed to go! The 1st half did not disappoint, especially when the crowd erupted after KT’s pump fake and amazing 3! And my 6 year-old son and I yelled for a lot of the defensive possessions even though from 304 we probably didn’t make a ton of noise. Such fun! I told them Sparty would start making shots, but the 2nd half was crazy. It was a letdown for sure, but my boys and I will always cherish this game! We have a great arena and a tough team. Let’s keep building on this! Thanks to all of you on this board that make it so great, and all of you who go to the games to make PBA great! GBR! By the way, the Sparty fan next to me leaned over with 2 minutes to go and said, “These refs are sh*t.” I said, “Welcome to Nebraska basketball.” I think I was even whistled for a moving screen on my way through the crowds out of the arena.

    I am just sad

After the game today I just sat in my seat and tried to think how I felt at that exact moment. The answer I came up with is sad. I say sad because I know that I will come home and start to hear from the people who really don't pay attention to the games (or trolls) say that we are bad and that Miles needs to go. I am sad that people have to start leaving in droves at the 4:16 mark of a home game. I am sad that those kids on that team have played so hard this year and I think that there just isn't anything left in the tank. I am sad that those coaches have worked so hard this year to make these kids better and that they now have to hear the whispers. I am sad for the players and coaches families who love their people as much as they do and have to watch all this kind of start to fall apart. I am sad for the fans who keep hoping and cheering and trying to help in any way to get this team to win. And I will say that I am being a bit selfish here but I am sad for me , because I so want this program to be good and get people's respect. I will go to sleep tonight and it will be better tomorrow, it always is, but for now I am sad.

  18. Almost deserves its own thread, but has anyone ever seen anyone play better defense with 4 fouls as Webster did considering the caliber of player he was checking. That won us the ballgame.

  19. My boy was in the hospital due to something outside of his control when the two of us sat in that hospital room & watched on a 20" TV that horrible gut-punch of a ballgame against NW, with opposing guards Boo Buie & Ty Berry htting dagger 3 after dagger 3 whilst mocking Keisei every chance they could. I was livid for a lot of reasons outside of our control. I was just mad and everything sucked. But God's good all the time. My son is starting to heal from his ordeal and on the road to recuperating, and we've been able to attend every single game this season together. It's been a remarkable time to be resilient and have so much resolve, just like the NU team we cheer for. To be honest, my 16 y.o. son is my hero. He hasn't blamed anyone or anything for his misfortune or any of his trials or troubles, instead he bucks up in the midst of pain & anguish and keeps his chin up even though he hasn't been able to fully participate in his H.S. sports thus far in the spring season. He is able to start back to his spring season, albeit generally from the sidelines, but his upcoming surgery has finally been set for about two weeks from now, after the regular season, coincidentally. And, after that, then he ought to be able to slowly get back to doing what he loves, soccer, he's played it since he was around 3!! Not to have this post become too personal, sorry about that... but it is kind of personal to us, I'm saying all this here because I realize that Nebrasketball has been kind of a God-send in a time of fear & unknown circumstances in our lives, and we have made sure to be there at PBA for everyone else we sit by & we cheer our little hearts out for the 2023-24 Huskers -- and watch all the away games together -- because we freakin' care. It's been a fun ride. let's keep this rollin'!! GO BIG RED!! Let's buy our dancin' shoes!! GBR - and we love HHC !!!

  20. I’m just gonna say it. I’ve been to every home game this year. Yes, I paid extra so I could attend NU vs the Queens college. I’m not some casual “I didn’t even watch the game but saw the score” fan. I’ve watched every single game this year, in its entirety. The Penn State home game and now this one sealed what I was already feeling. I no longer just think Fred will be back. I actually WANT him back. There has been undeniable progress inside the program and culture. Are we going to win out? No. Am I going to emotionally post if we lay a turd? Yes. But I freakin’ love this team. That is all.

  21. Damn those Husker fans for showing up by the thousands to watch a terrible product on the floor. I haven't mentioned this before but I'm going to take the opportunity now and say some things of which I am RELIABLY informed: Matt is a terrible dude. He undermined the coaches. All of them. Even Hoiberg. All of those great recruits he's so proud of for bringing in? He basically sheltered them from consequences for crappy behavior. If your last name was McGowens and you didn't want to show up for conditioning, Matt would fix it for you. If you were one of Matt's guys and the coaches got on you in practice, Matt would take you aside and tell you you didn't have to do what they said. Matt was the cause of rifts among the assistants. Matt tried to get good people fired. Matt is an awful dude and the night-and-day difference you see in effort and team play this year is directly attributable to him not being here anymore.

Hey guys. Sorry for my vent. Lifelong diehard here. My family purchased season tickets when I was in 8th grade- back in 1990. (I know, I’m old) Experienced the highs of Nee’s teams to being a proud member of the “6500” barflencht coined us during the Collier years, to attending Doc’s basketball 101 events, to befriending players on Coach Miles teams. Thought Fred was an absolute home run “I can’t believe we got him” hire. I work with about 50% bluejay alums. I bet them donuts for the office every year. I’ll be waking up early tomorrow to buy 7 dozen and get crap thrown- and deservedly so. I drive from Omaha to each home game. Leave work early to make the 6pm games. Even took a half day of PTO today to “prepare” for the CU game. I just told my son I have no motivation to leave work Friday and go watch the team against Idaho State. I’ll go to the Sunday game, but this is just painful to watch. It’s like they’re not even being coached. I drive thousands of miles (I calculated and it’s kind of sobering) every season to pay my $5 to park so I can make the trek over the bridge while I can’t feel my face in January and hope it doesn’t start to be white out conditions for the drive home so I can see my daughter and wife again and don’t slide into the ditch so I could see Verge go 4-23. And do it again and again. I buy into the hype as much as anyone. Tominaga is close to Curry. Lat made 88 out of 100 threes. Keon would start at most schools- so would Wilcher, Wilhelm has grown to 6-10, up from 6-9, Bryce is already a lottery pick….I must love punishment. Actually, most of us longtime season ticket holders and diehards must. I have balls of steel from them being kicked so many times. When I think about all of the money I throw out the window on tickets, gas, mileage, my time, etc, etc…it’s probably not a great investment. But I’ll keep coming back. I’ll keep clinging on hope that we get it figured out. That Verge will settle in and become a distributor. The Tominaga hones in his bombs. That Walker remembers he had to sit out games and to play like he did when he first was eligible. That K-Web will lead us now to some wins. That is all. I’m down. I’m spending 80+ bucks on donuts to feed my overweight bluejay coworkers tomorrow morning. This is my 7th year I’ve lost the bet, out of 8 years there. No worries, I now budget for it….

  24. I'm just thinking of a list of people I want to tell to just STFU and never offer another opinion about Nebraska basketball ever again. And if I ever hear anyone make another snarky remark about our head coach tweeting at halftime, I'm likely to punch them in the mouth. Just sayin.

  25. I don't care what others say. This was one of the brightest eras for Nebrasketball in quite some time. Sad to see it coming to an end. Sure, things didn't always go as planned. But to run a clean program, make our first dance in 20 years, achieve our first 5* (transfer) of the Rivals era, and countless other things is huge. I remain 100% behind the assumption that we don't get Hoiberg if we don't hire Tim 7 years ago.

    Coach Miles

Man... I'll tell ya what - I tend to be a contrarian at times. Even though I've been a vocal critic (but huge supporter at the same time), it just seems as the tides turn I go the other way. Been seeing a lot about firing Coach Miles, or asking about his job security (on this board and others). Quick question - are y'all nuts? I don't care about how tough or not tough our schedule was this year - Coach Miles just produced one of the best records we've ever had. We have one of the most talented, enjoyable teams I've ever seen in program history. Our players stay out of trouble and out of the newspaper for bad reasons. If this core comes back - watch out. Could easily be the best NU team to ever walk around campus. Our recruiting is fantastic. Our social media presence and fan engagement are top notch. The arena is packed. X's and O's wise - I've seen some adjustments made in the past two years that have made me very happy. The things we are doing take time to develop and build a rhythm. Again - if we can keep this core together, next year could be special. Are there some negatives? Sure. Constant roster fluctuation. Assistant Coaching carousel. Still haven't gotten over the NCAA tourney hump, or made it deep into a conference tournament. But this is Nebraska Basketball... we don't have the program weight to just roll us down some consistent, carved out path that guarantees top 50 recruits, 20 win seasons, and permanent top 4 conferences finishes. We're going to have some down year, some roster change, some assistant coaching changes - that's just the way it is when you're not UNC/Duke/Kentucky/MichState/etc... I am seeing growth. I am starting to see development and consistency. I love our recruiting and transfer approach. I think Coach Miles is still growing and becoming better by the year. I'm all in on the Coach Miles bus. Disclaimer: All of this changes if we have massive roster turnover, especially from unexpected or unreasonable areas, and go 12-something next year. Basketballjones is not to be held liable for any of his comments or opinions.

  27. Found this amusing. The current official NCAA rpi has Garner Webb at #190 and Syracuse at #195. And we're at #48. And isn't Tai Webster basically doing what the NBA scouts told Andrew White he needed to be able to prove he could do? If you're so great, why isn't your team any better? Andrew White's solution is to try to find a better team; Tai Webster's solution is to make his team better.

  28. I want to say thank you to the Nebraska Men's Basketball team for this season. Throw out wins and losses, throw out results. These young men have dedicated their lives to this program, this has been their world. They've given up their time, their blood, sweat and tears to be the best they can be and to try to elevate themselves, their teammates and this program. And for this as a mere fan of the basketball team that represents my state, I thank you. You have represented yourself exceptionally, as well as my beloved team and state.Thank you also to the coaches and staff of the basketball department. I am grateful for all the hard work you have put in to try to make our program better. Please continue your great work, and I can speak for myself that as a fan I will never give up loving this program. Good luck to all graduating seniors, thank you for being a Husker. We've come to know you all so well, and we will miss you, and I hope we see you again. Good luck to all players the rest of the year and over the summer, and I'm looking forward to a new season next year, and I truly hope to see everyone back, because I am proud of you as Huskers, and hope you are all glad you are here and want to finish your collegiate careers as a Husker. Thank you. P.S.,All are welcome to add your own thank you's and positive thoughts. Click here to view the article

  29. My favorite play of that game was with ~:50 left and the game entirely in hand, JL jumps a passing lane and gets a tip, then dives for the loose ball. When players can eliminate having context determine their habits and effort you end up with a good team.

  30. What a disappointing way for things to come to an end. - Roby was killer. Just torpedoed any chance we had to make a game of it. The whole F2 thing with the TCU player was not good either. - It didn't help that JPJ didn't show up for the first half either. 0-10 at the break was pretty killer, too. Nice that he came out on fire in the second. - Tanner played his butt off, but he's not a guy that can carry a team. If you add that to normal JPJ and Roby games, maybe we've got something to work with. - And now we wait for whatever's next. I think it comes quickly. Probably tomorrow if it doesn't come tonight. If the rumors are true, the future is exciting, but right now, I'm bummed with how this season and this game went. If this is the end for Coach Miles, I'll always remember this era of Nebraska basketball fondly, for many reasons. I wish, oh how I wish, it would have ended differently...

  31. A long time ago, I used to watch every game and soak up every word the talking heads said, every point, all the analysis, all their expert opinions, all their insider insights, all their unnamed sources. Then the play, the game, the season, the career would happen and even if that talking head knew all the right people, all the right tactical and strategic details, even if they were the best informed SOB (scholar of basketball) they had (charitably) a 25% chance of being right. So I now understand that "knowing" and "actually happening" are not the same thing. If you see someone on this board with 10,000 posts (or HHC in their screen name) understand that we have listened to 20,000 posts from guys who "know a guy" or "saw the next coach at Valentino's" or "have the inside dirt" Charitably, <5% of those have been right, so it's not personal. If you KNOW and want to share, great, when your prediction comes to pass, you will be vindicated but if you want to stifle disagreement by citing your unnamed sources then the bulletin board world isn't your best platform and you should start a blog.

  32. I just hope the next coach, whoever it is, works as hard through adversity as Tim Miles does. The writing has been on the wall for awhile. It would have been easy to just cash in his chips and phone it in the last few games of the season. Thomas Allen is out with injury; Nana Akenten chooses to repeatedly violate team rules and you're forced to suspend him; you're down half a dozen players across the season and now you're down to 8 players available, including just three of the original starters and three other guys who weren't even rotation guys. And yet he's still arguing with the refs in the Iowa game and doing whatever they can to gameplan for Rutgers. We might get smoked by Maryland today, but it won't be because Miles and the staff quit on the team or on the season. He has a lot more character than a lot of the guys who are calling for his head.

    Tim Miles Send Off

When Tim first got here I took my son to the open scrimmage down in Lincoln. When the scrimmage was over and everyone got in the autograph line, my son and I were literally the last people in line. My son wanted to tough it out so we waited. By the time we made it to the tables to meet the team, coach had left because he had family in town and it was getting late. It was disappointing but I understood. Someone asked me for my contact info so I gave it to them, not really expecting anything. A week later I received a padded envelope from the university. I opened it up and inside was a miniature replica of the court with a nice handwritten message on it from coach thanking my son and I for coming down. I was really surprised he went through the trouble for just a fan he would likely never meet in person. That spoke volume to me about how much he cared about the fans. That’s a big part of why I am loyal to Tim. He’s a class act.

  35. Glynn Watson is going to go down as one of the best players in school history. With at least 20 games remaining in his career, he's on pace to finish in the top 10 in at least these categories: - Assists - Free Throw percentage (top 5) - Field goals made - Steals (top 3) - 3 pointers made - He's currently on pace to finish around 11th in scoring but an extended run or two in the post season could certainly help that cause. Still, the gap between 10th and 11th is pretty substantial. I don't think his impact is lost on most people here, but I think NU would be lost without him. I think it's easy for him to get overshadowed by JPJ, Cope and to a certain degree, the potential of Isaiah Roby, but GW is the engine behind it all. Let's make sure we appreciate what we've got while we've got it.

  36. How about Miles tonight tying that #3 spot for most wins in Nebrasketball history? Congrats, coach.

  37. I never tweet at recruits... However some probably like the occasional "hope you come here" tweet. But I have seen 2 arguments with Jordan Cornish on twitter from husker fans! 1 from somebody I think posts A LOT on these forums. What is the point? Do we need to make it tougher to recruit here? We don't need to explain to recruits they don't fit in to opposing teams offenses then call them "touchy" when they don't agree. Or tell them they won't fit in at husker nation because of there twitter attitude. Let coaches coach and recruiters recruit! Keep your tweets to yourself! Rediculous.

    Wilcher

So proud of this dude. Stuck it out and now is showing out. Question for the board historians. Wilcher has 50+/40+/90+ shooting % splits. Has that ever been done in Nebraska Basketball history? Keisei was close last year.

  39. how many people 2 months ago thought we'd be playing meningful basketball in the final week of the season? Not I. And the only feeling I have today is gratitude to everyone associated with a beleaguered program that desperately needed something good. We got that. Thanks, hoopsters, for rescuing what was looking like a complete downer of a season. I, for one, am proud of you guys.

  41. And that Storm may allow me to attend way more than just winter break Huskers games! I recently accepted a Math Instructor position with SCC Beatrice, (hence the Storm) and my partner and I will move to Lincoln in late July! The Hard Hat is back!

  43. Yes, it's "good" Brady injured his back. You're opening hoping for people on our team to be injured so we can't play. You come on here like they are supposed to just lay down and quit for your benefit. They want to play; they've earned the right. You want those kids not to play? Get the AD to grow a set and take it from them. Until then, our team is on the court.

  44. Amen. I'm all about family first -- and him missing a game for his daughter's wedding actually makes me think MORE highly of him. I wouldn't have even minded him missing Friday's game if need be. But you really mean to tell me he couldn't have attended a basketball game on Thursday afternoon and flew out right afterward? Instead, only showing up to the Rutgers game gives the appearance not of support but of an expected loss, which AGAIN he continues to hammer away at. I work in PR. Last season's statement of a need for consistency, and pointing out the 14-15 season right after one of our winningest seasons in school history, used the language of a poor expected outcome. I said so at the time, and will say so now -- that should be for the fans and media to point out, but not an athletic administration trying to put itself in a position to set a tone of optimism and winning. It was absolute incompetence. It stands out even more when you contrast his behavior and language over the last year to his behavior and language when talking about Ernie Kent -- who by any metric was an absolute failure at Washington State, yet he kept extending him and talking about his accomplishments in glowing terms. Now, we have someone you actually CAN make a case for, and instead the disdain is palpable even to the national media. I've made it pretty clear I'm no Bill Moos fan. This is why. The man is utterly incompetent when it comes to even giving the impression of leadership, and my criticism extends to those in his communications division putting out this nonsense. No matter what he does now, he has eroded the fanbase's trust with his inconsistent policies and disinterest in this program, and created his own conundrum with his visible lack of support for his current staff. To me, both as a fan and someone who does this for a living, his handling of the basketball program is absolutely inexcusable. It isn't that hard to at least give the impression that you'd prefer to see your team win. (I still recall Sipple writing that someone made a "he better get this back on track" statement in December -- WHO in their right mind would say something like that, at that point, to one of the state's most well-known columnists? I remember thinking at the time that no matter how much I dislike Creighton, you would NEVER hear Rasmussen or his staff say something like that.) Instead, he (and his staff of "communications" buffoons) made themselves absolute laughingstocks and it is mind-boggling to me how poorly they have handled not just this situation, but the entire last 365 days. 45. Again, I'm sorry my attempt at humor offended you. I wasn't trying to step on any toes; I'm genuinely surprised at your reaction. I thought the reference to the fire swamp from "The Princess Bride" was quite apropos. And I thought the unicorn would bring some levity to the discussion. I was obviously wrong. These periods of adversity bring out the worst in us. People aren't as interested in laughing about things. It's one of the reasons I started an off-topic thread about barbecue sauce: I wanted us to have something to connect with that wasn't controversial. I think we're nearing the end of an era for Husker hoops. To me, that's always a sad thing. I don't see much chance that Miles will be our coach next year. I think I've been pretty clear about that for a very long time. Since before the season, I predicted he'd either leave of his own accord or get shown the door. I think we're looking at the latter of those two situations. I don't know that I ever "went on an island for Miles." I've always wanted all the coaches we've had to do well here. I'll want the next one to do well. I won't apologize for defending coaches from criticism that I think is unfair. And I'm not going to go out of my way to attack the coach, either. If that makes people think I'm "on an island" for a coach, so be it. Not going to lose sleep over that characterization. But let me be clear: I recognize Miles ain't perfect. There are holes in his game, so to speak. But he checks as many of the boxes as any coach we've had here in awhile and his wittiness and charm at media days and social media savvy brought Husker hoops some favorable attention. He's not going to be the subject of insulting memes like Francis "Psycho" McCaffrey. And he wasn't bland like Barry Collier. This is a guy you had to hope would do well here. And if you didn't hope for that, then you're kind of effed up in my opinion. And I think picking coaches is a crapshoot and while the next guy might be really good at things Miles wasn't so good at, it's also highly probable he won't check off all the boxes either. But, whoever it is, you can know right now that as long as he's officially the head coach of the Huskers, I'll have his back. Unapologetically.

  46. Been thinking about this. Five seasons ago, when we last made a run to the NCAA tourney, people kept posting graphics from realtimerpi, etc., projected our odds of winning x, y, and z number of games to finish the season. I completely disregarded those charts with projections of our percentage chances of winning various games. Instead, I said we're either good enough (to make the dance) or we're not. If we're good enough, we're going to win the games we need to in order to get in, and, at the time, I thought we were good enough. So, the needle moved from, like, 0.2% chance of getting to 19 wins to 100% chance of getting to 19 wins. Because we were good enough that year to do it. I look at this team this year and it's a slightly different feeling. Again, I don't care about computers projecting odds of us reaching a certain win total. I see a team that is not simply good enough to make the dance; I see a team that is good enough to make some noise in the dance. Now, crap can happen. Lose a game we shouldn't, and next thing you know, we're playing catch-up. Nothing is a foregone conclusion here. But we are most certainly good enough this year. We're a better team than we were in 2013. We're more balanced; we have more guys who can score; dare I say that we play better defense? You can't just shut down one of our guys and beat us. This team can go into Maryland and win. This team could win at Iowa. And here's the thing: It won't take luck. That's right. IT WON'T TAKE LUCK. Years past, you'd say "if we bring our 'A' game" or "If we get some lucky bounces, who knows?" This year? We're a dangerous team. We won't necessarily win every game left on our schedule, but you know what? Every team left on our schedule is going to need to bring THEIR "A" game to beat us. This is the year, guys. That monkey is preparing his dismount.

  47. I am a bit confused about the negativity towards Isaiah Roby. And this is not meant to be disrespectful towards those with these views. But I guess I look at him and his role much differently. He is not scoring at high levels, granted. But is that his role this year? When the starting five is on the floor, he likely is the 4th or 5th option. He does not bitch and moan about it, rather, he does his assigned jobs. He does get some cheap fouls, some earned, some are head scratchers; but he also makes plays when plays are necessary. Here are other things he does well: - he is setting good screens and he takes his defender out of the paint which opens up the lane for his teammates; - he blocks shots and intimidates the opponent with his wing span and jumping ability; - he rebounds well; - he can handle the ball out on the perimeter, and yes, he sometimes dribbles into a turnover when passing up an outside shot while attempting to take it to the basket; - he passes the ball well, often finding open teammates or making that one additional pass that is necessary for a clean look; - he is an exceptional help defender, he moves well and can switch and defend all positions; - he is a very good free throw shooter; - he can score at all three levels; - he is playing out of position, and you never (ever) hear a complaint...unlike a few other unnamed players in recent history; - he is a selfless and great teammate. I am sure I missed other things he does exceptionally well. We have players this year who seem to fully understand and embrace their roles. This is important for team success. Isaiah is doing the things that help make the Huskers good this year. His box scores are littered with things that help make us successful. I also acknowledge that there are some things he can strive to improve...silly fouls, inane turnovers and not taking the open shot (on occasion) when it is available are three that stand out to me.
