I'm glad that CJ stuck it out the last three years. He won us a couple games this year especially the Wisconsin game. He is a guy we should all be rooting for in his final collegiate season.9 points -
We are in a significantly better place in terms of landing guys out of the transfer portal than we were last season. Hopefully that means we are able to land an even better group.8 points

J-Law quickly vaulted up my list with how genuine he greeted my bro and I after such a painful defeat in Memphis. He was so kind and gracious with his time (while his own 'bro' waited...) that I leaned in for a hug. He wished us well on our journey home. Wow, that's an impressive young man. He could have been surly and sulked, he chose to be a great human being. And that means a lot to a big NU fan, I'll sing his praises as long as I live. That's a good dude, J-Law. Word on the street is that two of them are staying-with or going-to Wisconsin. I've heard no street word on the third. So . . . we had the same discussion a year ago about Chucky. Who thinks there is even a remote chance of Chucky (or another Bellevue West grad) coming to Nebraska this second time around? As to the two in the portal, they are both excellent players, and we'd love to have them. But if they don't want to come here (or if they aren't our highest priorities), there are other excellent players available. Further, it's amazing to me that a Nebraska player would go to another B1G school, instead of wanting to be the next Sam Griesel or Josiah Allick--with all the love and notoriety they have achieved across the entire state and its loyal fans.3 points

Five of our top 8. The only rotation player to portal was a non-starter. We honestly wouldn't have to do a ton in the portal to improve our standing. At this point, Brice probably slides back to his 3 spot, Gary to the 4, Jamarques re-enters the starting rotation at the 2, and Ulis probably starts at point. Land that trio of Bellevue West guys, though, and I would feel pretty good about things, provided we keep those other five guys.3 points -

A week ago, we had one more spot open. One more senior exhausting eligibility than signed recruits. Now, we have five more spots to fill. As long as we keep Mast, Gary, Williams, Lawrence and Sam H., I think we'll have a pretty solid nucleus that we can build around. So far, nothing has been like a gut punch losing a guy I really hoped we would keep. Fingers crossed it stays that way.3 points -

I expected CJ to depart. He is a good man and worked hard while at Nebraska. I wish him nothing but the best. He helped turn our culture around! That said, every time he put the ball on the floor, attempting to drive to the basket, gave me a near death experience. Again, thank you for being a Husker CJ.3 points -

Worst Coach in Husker Hoops History
Chuck Taylor and one other reacted to hhcmatt for a topic
Wanted to circle back and note that due to WWII that in addition to being the basketball coach, AJ Lewandowski was the football coach, Athletic Director, and business manager for UNL during that 4 year span. He also coached one year of Nebraska baseball and taught PE for the U. Lewandowski graduated from UNL in 1930 where he lettered in 4 sports: football, basketball, baseball and tennis. After graduation and before he was hired by Nebraska, he coached at Montana. At the end of his coaching career he was Nebraska's business manager until his death in 1961 at the age of 56 from a known heart condition. He was tabbed as the acting AD during the 53-54 season.2 points -

When the team was leaving the Sheraton for FedEx Forum, all of the guys who have left were not featured, at all. They staggered the roster leaving so they could legitimately film for a documentary or somethin'.... it was very noticeable that all of the 4 players who are in the portal were in no way, shape, or form to be shown on the "tape." It was glaring that guys like Eli & even C.J. were not with the rest of the rotation pieces on the walk outta the hotel. I didn't want to make much of it at the time, because we had a game to play, but I did note the disparity for future reference. Nothing changes based on that, it's just interesting to note...2 points -

Wow that is a surprise. Not sure why he would have not liked Wisconsin although for whatever reason I could not figure out he spent alot of time on the bench during their NCAA tournament game debacle. At times he seemed to look for his own shot a bit too much but this kid has tons of talent - without him WIsconsin would have had very little offense this season.1 point

With all due respect to today's players, Claude Retherford might have been the rizziest dude to ever put on a Nebraska Basketball uniform. Once quoted as saying his idea of a team was four guys who would set screens so he could shoot. If there is someone on that film taking all the shots for Nebraska, especially shooting from the hip, it's Claude. https://vault.si.com/vault/1966/02/21/a-pair-of-sparklers-in-poky1 point

OUT: Keisei Allick Boogie Ramel* Eli* Blaise* CJ* IN: Janowski Frager I'm sure we've reached out to more than what's quoted above, but that's all I saw with a twitter search of "Nebraska portal." Ideally, I'd like to see us bring in freshmen and develop them over the course of their careers. In the era of NIL deals and the transfer portal, that appears to be an aspirational goal that isn't very realistic. So, the second choice would be to grab a kid who's got at least 2 years of eligibility left and has demonstrated some development already. Problem with that is that competition for those guys is pretty stiff. Transfers with one year seem plentiful but our success rate with them hasn't been great. And, finally, Jucos are still a possibility but they've also been more miss than hit for us. We've got a lot of spots to fill, though, so I'm sure the coaches are getting after it. * = portal departure1 point -

Wilcher, you were usually good for a few great nights and some really good nights. Your free-throw shooting in 2023-24 was elite, Steph Curryesque. In fact, Nebrasketball had 4 dudes who shot lights out from the stripe: C.J. Wilcher 31 for 33 = 93.9% Keisei Tominaga 70 for 80 = 87.5% Brice Williams 119 for 141 = 84.4% Rienk Mast 57 for 68 = 83.8% And, as a team, NU made 500 (of 658) = 76.0% Same consideration for 3FG%, a bunch of guys did fairly well overall: C.J. Wilcher 50 for 127 = 39.4% Brice Willliams 50 for 129 = 38.8% Keisei Tominaga 76 for 202 = 37.6% Eli Rice (1/2) 10 for 27 = 37.0% Josiah Allick 8 for 22 = 36.4% Jamarques Lawrence 36 for 101 = 35.6% -- incl. finishing the season 16 for 26 = 61.5% (and he also improved his overall FG% to 42.0% after hovering in mid-30s.) Rienk Mast 42 for 122 = 34.4% Sam Hoiberg 15 for 49 = 30.61% Juwan Gary 26 for 85 = 30.59%1 point -

uneblinst's postgame chatter: vol 16; ed 34- Texas A&M
Cazzie22 reacted to Coaches kid for a topic
Great points, Norm. Missing those layups had a substantial effect on the game. I'd have to go back and look, but I was at the game and it seemed like every time we missed those easy shots, A&M came back and scored on the next possession. The misses were demoralizing and caused us to press on the offensive end. Allick played and fought so hard, but his missed layups hurt us. As for the pieces we need to add next year, we need to have an athletic shot altering forward to play alongside Mast (if he returns). While he was able to be a facilitator on the offensive end, it was evident that A&M didn't fear getting their shots blocked once they got in the lane. Not every team we play will have Relaford/Obaseki type guys, but when we do have that type of match up, it would be nice to have a guy who could put some fear in them at the rim. Kyle would the type of guy to be helpful in that area. We also need a big guard/wing who can stay in front of the basketball at an elite level. Juwan is a good defensive player, but I don't think his lateral movement is elite. He was matched up on those A&M guys many times, and he did not do a great job of keeping them out of the lane. From what I remember from Ulis, he may help us there. Having a true point guard will also allow Williams to play off the ball, and I think he could see a leap in his game if given that chance.1 point -

Oh come on. He had a great January then reverted back to his inconsistent shooting the final six weeks. When he’s hot you can put up with his poor defense and dribbling. When he’s not he’s a major liability. I’d much rather have a more well rounded and consistent player, even if his overall 3P% is lower.1 point -
