Dachon Burke SO. transfer Robert Morris ->

It's only fair that we steal this guy from Robert Morris after they stole Danny from us 18 years ago, right?2 points -

And I get that. But why not give us the best opportunity to succeed? It’s like making one basketball team shoot on a 18 foot hoop while the other does 12. One football team has to go 140 yards instead of 100. One baseball team has to run 5 bases to score instead of 3. When you could very easily even the playing field and give your team the best chance to succeed.2 points -

Conteact length is not meaningless however. As much as you are fighting for it to be meaningless, it isn’t. And it is giving other schools a recruiting advantage over us. Is it right that this is the way the game works? That is debatable. However, to say you simply need to “recruit harder” is kind of a cop out I think. As much as you may or may not like it, obviously contract length is part of the game. Everyone wants us to play with the big boys. Well we need to step up our game in this area. Money shouldn’t be the reason here. We have plenty. Extend him, and you can still fire him if things go south next year. However, all you are doing in this situation is hindering the program in the next few years after next year no matter who the coach is.2 points

I think you guys are forgetting how $$$ Sadler was on some BOBs in late-game situations. He also had some great sets for lay-ups - specifically one for Diaz - in late-game situations.2 points -

I don’t think the disadvantage is that great. I really don’t. I think coaches believe it’s a big deal, and that belief affects things, but I’ve covered football recruiting for a long time. Coach’s contract lengths haven’t come up. Kids don’t think like coaches.1 point -
I don't think it would have mattered. Childress is from that area and would have taken the A&M job whenever it was offered. Kind of like Van Horn who was a Razorback and took the Arkansas job when it presented itself.1 point

Would be nice to continue scheduling some home/home with our old Big 8 rivals. Maybe a K-St, Oklahoma or Colorado... and what about UNO on a regular basis? Seems like a natural fit.1 point -

A comment on in-bounds plays: - I saw a lot, and I mean A TON of teams use very similar action on inbounds play in college basketball, including at some very good programs. It's a safe play that very rarely gets screwed up. - I have seen NU have quite a bit of success on the secondary action off that basic in-bound play. What I guess I'm saying is I think Miles and NU gets a bad wrap here and my thinking has evolved a bit on this. I guess that was two comments...1 point -

Jasen Green is planning on going to Millard North. His sister is a junior there right now, I believe. He's about 6'4" as an 8th grader and their dad is about 6'7" or 6'8". He' been playing up a grade on Chucky Hepburn's AAU/club team for a while. His ball skills still need a lot of work but his physical tools at this stage are terrific and he has a lot of game. He's definitely the guy to watch in that 2022 class. I'm a big fan of Hepburn. He's the best player in that class right now by a considerable margin in my mind (and that class is pretty good). His feel for the game is tremendous and he's a really solid athlete to go with it. I just wonder about how much more he's going to grow; he's already taller than his older brother and their dad is not a tall man.1 point -

No true point guard, lack of post depth, for just a couple reasons. That roster could win ok, but not big. Since the administration killed recruiting, we didn't supplement it enough. Won't matter anyway. Win big, he gives us the middle finger, win average or less, we give him another one. We just put off the Coaching change for a year.1 point -
Saying it again.....but really like what she has shown this year. Has a complete game. It will bode well for her coming into the college game. It's not predictable how she'll do....but....her game will fit in real well with Coach Amy's schemes. When she adjusts for the speed of the college game...and I think she will quickly ....look out fans.1 point

There’s a lot of truth in this post that shouldn’t get dismissed, and the more athletes get stipends/name and likeness, the less of a focus there will be on making sure coaches have super long contracts. It’s notable when people suggest the standard needs to be five years or else recruiting - in basketball, where transfers are rampant - will be unduly hurt. That said, coaches believe it has an impact, which means assistant coaches believe it, which means the media reports on it, which means, on some level, it’s real, even if, at the end of the day, kids probably don’t make a decision solely or even primarily on that. Patrick Chambers recruited well at Penn State and he only had 1 year left on his contract. (He is soon to be extended.)1 point -
Nebrasketball: Our Brand
dustystehl reacted to swmckewon for a topic
I'd have to chew on the national brand. Locally, I think it's pretty straightforward: Fans will continue to show up to PBA if the team wins, regardless of the politics around it, because it's a big-ticket event, people like the PBA and the Haymarket is a fun place to go. Fans have even turned out in losing seasons. Until that changes, the brand is "If Nebrasketball is playing, people will come." Like, even if fans aren't thrilled with the contract length - and I don't think all fans care about that - they're still going to show up, out of loyalty or habit.1 point -

Is Bill Moos going to give me a year off my donations?
CanadianHusker reacted to Norm Peterson for a topic
If I'm Miles, and you're the AD, and you do what you say and I kick ass next year and win an NCAA tourney game, and you then approach me about a long term deal, I'm going to say, "Long term? Like what? Two years instead of one? So generous. Thanks, but I'm going to find a 7 year deal somewhere else and good luck with the coaching search to replace me." If I'm Moos this year, I come out PROMPTLY after the Final 4 with AT LEAST a 2 year deal if not 3. Maybe structure buyouts in such a way that I can cut ties a little more easily next year if things go south. But I bring Tim forward at a press conference and praise him effusively for the great season we had this year and how we got screwed out of an NCAA tourney appearance the team had clearly earned. What do we have instead? The good feelings that should have carried us forward into next year following one of the best regular season runs in program history have COMPLETELY dissipated. Gone away. Gone. No good will; no good feelings; no positive momentum carrying us forward into next year. None. Completely screwed the positive momentum that would have given us a foot in the door in recruiting. The way this has been handled has been a complete cluster fuck.1 point -

jimmy, I have no idea why, but the red down arrows have been flying around this site recently. Maybe it's the world we live in. Maybe it's because people don't have time to hug the people they love. Maybe it's because of financial pressures. Maybe it's because the weather is more like winter than spring. I truly think it's because they've never heard the Turtles.1 point -
