  1. I thought the choices were either: fire Miles or extend him right away to stabilize the program for the next year. I had no idea there was a third option: hem and haw and let the program blow in the wind. It has been hard not to feel like the fans care more than the administration the last 2 decades.

  3. I want to throw this question out here because I want to see if I am the only one that is wondering this? And heck I haven't been down arrowed or gotten into it with anybody in a long time, and the weather sucks and I don't real feel that great so maybe I am just a bit testy right now. Anyhue, I don't want to throw a high school senior under the bus ( but it might seem like it) but why hasn't anybody questioned X-Man not having a bigger commitement to us than just with a single assistant coach? We talk about all the positives that we feel this school and program has: New age workout facilities, beautiful new arena, sold out crowds, a very good education awaiting, all the help one would need to get that education, playing time, power 5 conference, chance to help change a program, top of the line weight rooms, food services... the list goes on and he bails within 24 hours of an assistant coach leaving. So he was only coming here because of Kenya. I don't know it just kind of sounds so shallow to me. And yes that is just my opinion. I do work with kids all day everyday so I do know how they have changed over the years, I just feel that most kids that I know or have taught would pick a school for more than just an assistant coach. You know like a coach and the school mascot. Or that they have soft serve ice cream at lunch and dinner and it is all you can eat. And yes I know it is all about relationships now, that is how I teach, but it still just seems very shallow.

  4. The attitude on this board has rapidly digressed in the past week. I would like to do something to lift everyone's spirits. Music always seems to do it, so does steak. Combine the two, and we're talking nirvana. Here's what's up: Post the music video you feel best describes Husker Men's Basketball. It's that simple. The winner will be determined by how many "like" votes he or she receives. "Down" arrows won't be counted. In case of a tie, I will make the final decision. Prize package is 2 Nebraska Star ribeyes. Or if you like a little less fat, 2 NY Strips. If the winner is out of state, I'll ship them to you. Good Luck and good eating!

"Easily"? Are u nuts. There is no recovery. We're a year out from knowing who our coach will be, and we can even start recruiting. The cupboard will be completely bare for Miles'' successor. We'll be going thru then"start from scratch" phase once again.

AFAIC, Miles is in over his head as far as building a program is concerned and the situation was made worse by Eichorst’s actions now Moos is in a situation where he’s damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t and it’s all a mess

So which stage of grief are we in now? Seems a little like bargaining. Good - things are progressing along nicely.

If everything else is solid ( and NOTHING is ) and Kenya leaves, I doubt he wants out. But, NOTHING is and he’s hitting the panic button big time. I can’t really blame him. I wish he’d man up and accept challenge however. After all, there are no guarantees anywhere and transferring is always possible ( “everybody’s doing it”). Again though, he’s thinking “what the heck is going on there?” Hopefully the dust settles and he re-commits.

  16. The phrase “dumpster fire” gets thrown around too often similar to how everyone uses the term “perfect storm”. Moos is definitely mishandling the situation, but the result will hardly be a calamity. Sadly enough, worst case scenario will be no different than where we were a year ago, eg losing 10+ conference games and worrying about losing to schools like Incarnate Word. 2017-2018 was an exceptional year for Nebraska but most other schools, 22-10 is an average year. I agree Moos needs to make a clear, unequivocal move. Moos did not create this mess, but he must fix it. He is gambling that the mess will fix itself. Lots of people take that gamble and end up with mediocre results. Moos wants Miles to prove himself to get the extension. A second consecutive winning season shows Miles is building something. A losing season in 2018-2019 means this last season was an aberration, and Miles is gone. Bad strategy. If Miles had been taking his job seriously, Xiaver Johnson would be a nonissue. The kid was Miles #1 recruit and it is being reported that Miles did not have much of a relationship with Xavier. That raises red flags. Miles is the head man. Kids should want to play for him and not just an assist coach. If the kid is not loyal to Miles, will the kid follow Miles coaching? No inside info, but Kenya Hunter leaving is likely more about Kenya than Miles and Moos. This situation is not the first time an assist left to coach with one of the Hurley clan. Dan Hurley is considered an up and comer, and UConn is a good school with a national reputation. In the history of college basketball only 8 of the national championship matchups featured schools not from the Eastern Time zone, and Kenya seems to want to get back to the east coast.

  21. No way an AD comes out and publicly says he's keeping a coach....and then fires him. If Moos was indeed looking around he's been denied and is done gauging interest until next year or years after

Female skinny dippers? Asking for a friend? As for the initial post, think a lot of the negativity is that we had a very good season, we could see what many thought was the light at the end of the tunnel and the one or two things that needed done in theory didn't get done. Not the whole thing seems to be sliding back into what many of known as Nebrasketball for a long long time.

My perception at first was surprise that so many people jumped on Moos. I had figured contracts are complicated and things were dragging and the Kenya Hunter move just agitated everybody. But then I re-read Barfknect's story that said Miles was "still waiting to hear" details of his extension. That makes me think Miles was using the reporter to make it clear that he is indeed in limbo. I'd like to give Moos the benefit of the doubt on this, but if nothing else, he's not too sensitive to Miles' position. So I do understand why some are angry, even though I'm not. Beyond that, I'll still support Miles next year because that's what fans do, but I remain skeptical that he's the answer for the program. One thing I struggle with: Do fans really think Miles is going to get it done? I see some of the same people sticking up for him on one thread, and then on another thread commenting about how poorly he develops post players or how he needs an assistant who can coach offense or how his roster is always unsettled. I understand that he's upgraded our talent level, but that's coming off a very low base (Doc). But is the talent level good enough to overcome his shortcomings as a coach? I wonder if our low expectations aren't a big part of why the program underachieves. Look at any successful program that we would want to emulate and ask yourself whether they would accept these results.

Well then they might as well do away with letters of intent. What's the point if politics make them meaningless? How far down does the "not having the best interest at heart" go? Head coach is one thing, then assistant. Pretty soon it will be a release has to be given if the student manager changes.

  27. To me, this should be a pretty easy call for Moo's. When you look at Miles overall resume here at NU, he should not be granted any extension. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if Moos is already looking at other coaches to gauge interest. If he was "all in" on Miles, he would have already offered extension. Why grant an extension when there is a chance you may need to fire him next year and just pay additional money. If I was Moos, I'd just let Miles coach next year under current contract or fire him now. I've been a huge Miles fan but doesn't appear Miles is going to put this program at the level we all should expect it to be on a consistant basis. I think it's time for a change in direction.

So what’s the root of the problem? Does it go back to Shawn? Is it Miles? Is it the fans with unrealistic expectations? I feel like Shawn was trying to control the football program like it was his own. Surely he wasn’t doing the same with the basketball? Did he have enough time after controlling football to control basketball? I sure dont don’t feel like we had one of the best seasons of my life. It feels awfully similar to last year for me. I just feel like Palmer is the only one out of the three that have declared that will be back. It just sucks being pessimistic all the time. I had so much fun watching the regular season but the end of the season left such a sour taste in my mouth.

  30. Good post, think a lot of people on here are quick to lay the blame on one person. Reality is probably somewhere in the middle.

  31. The problem is that it doesn’t have to be a “support one over the other”. I can be a fan of Moos and still believe that he’s handled this poorly. Part of the job as an AD is to do what it takes to support your team, help them win games and achieve success. On the surface, I don’t know how anyone can say that what’s going on right now is doing those things.

yep, live in ne/sd, so a lot of goofer coverage. listen to kfan out of nd once in awhile------and, of course they have connections to goofer sports. i also stream a few of the nebraska stations when i get the opportunity. mainly 1620 though. my father was a huge gopher fan. i used to follow them (especially bb) when i was younger, but always was a huge husker football follower---and, over the past couple of decades started to follow practically all husker sports. i have a sister that met her husband at sdsu in brookings and they farm in ne/ne. his family has had football season tickets, like, forever. my sister got me turned on to husker vb. long story short, i evolved into a big husker fan.

  33. Let's get this thread off the personal sniping and explain for me yet again when the last date players can return to the program falls. April 22? or some time in May? It certainly wasn't April 10. There still seems to be confusion on this important issue.

  34. is moos waiting til april 22nd to see what palmer and copeland do? it kind of seems like it. the fact that the best we could do is offer a 20k raise to kenya seems like an insult. he's recruited 95% of our best players since he's been here.

    2018 Transfer Market

  37. Ok maybe this idea is crazy and I don’t even know if he’s interested. But tis the season for hot takes and half baked ideas. I think Miles should offer Anton Gill a role as a Grad Assistant for next year. Anton probably isn’t going to have a career as a player in pro basketball. However he is a guy teammates love and I think that could transfer over as a coach and in the recruiting game. Not saying he would be the recruiting coordinator but I think he could be a key asset in this time.

  38. All on Miles Moos has been here just over 5 months and has had much bigger fires to put out not to mention being put in a very difficult position by eichorst. It was a lose lose situation for Moos no matter what he fires Miles, he just fired a 22 win coach who turned out the 3rd best regular season win total in school history. He extends him, the same people criticizing him now for not doing it, will be complaining about him next year when he likely has to make a change. As mentioned, very perplexing and inexcusable that Miles doesn’t have a relationship with him. Also, maybe it’s me, but I tend to think the guy directly responsible for the hoops program, who has been here for 6 years, most of them unproductive, deserves far more skepticism on the matter over the guy who has been here for 5 months while mostly dealing with other things
