I really don't believe some folks here appreciate what's been going on behind the scenes with our basketball program. Let's start with the aggressive pursuit of Dana Altman, which our AD has denied, and many here believed him. Sorry, but that's nonsense. As I posted when this was going on a couple of weeks ago, Nebraska fans are not entitled to full disclosure from the AD about what's going on behind the scenes with the basketball program. He was asked about Altman, flat denied it (lying in the process), and I have no problem with that. It's not the type of information that needs to be admitted publicly. Altman turned us down, so it ended there. The AD is not going to admit that publicly. If you took his denial at face value, you may not understand how the game is played. If you believe Nebraska didn't make a very lucrative offer to Dana Altman, you've bought into a lie. Tim Miles and his staff were very aware of the offer to Altman. They're very well aware that the relationship between Nebraska and Miles is not a long-term partnership, but rather a temporary alliance out of convenience and, in reality, only set to continue for a while longer because the AD hasn't found "his guy" yet. Tim knows this because the AD has been more than honest with him in this regard. Tim knows the score and his assistants know the score. He understands that this entails the possibility that some will seek greener pastures. How could they not be expected to do so? He likely has encouraged them to take care of their business and do what they have to do. If you like Tim Miles and believe he's the future of this basketball program, you're entitled, but just know that the AD doesn't share your perspective. Tim's on borrowed time and is only still here because the home run hire the AD seeks has not been secured. Nebraska under Bill Moos is not prepared to accept a future in which the program continues to be a doormat in college basketball. I understand we just came off a very successful year by Nebraska standards, but the old standards that many here seem to accept as the appropriate reference are not considered to be acceptable by the people currently in charge of this athletic department. They've set their sights much higher and are no longer prepared to accept sustained mediocrity. Tim is a .500 coach at Nebraska who has not built anything sustainable from year to year. Some people believe that Miles and his staff are somehow "in limbo" as a result of the slow pace of Moos' progress in extending a new contract to Miles. While this may be true to an extent, there is very little uncertainty among the parties involved about the fact that the AD is not a Tim Miles fan and does not consider him to be the future of this program. So, there's no "in limbo" situation here. Kenya Hunter knew he was on a path that will soon hit a dead end, so he chose a different path. That's called being smart and taking care of your family. Anyone who has resentment toward Kenya has not correctly assessed the situation in my opinion.

The Butler Way. Maybe we could even convince Barry to return as an AD this time.

Matt Graves was the star assistant for Brad Stevens at Butler and was recently let go as the head coach of South Alabama. He brings the gameplan and development skills some think we need as well as good midwest recruiting chops. I'd be estatic if we grabbed him.

Norm. Really knows shooting. Would use a mean semi-colon in any prepared statements. Tolerates no knees bending the wrong way. Would take the job.

Devaney was pretty damn good as an AD. Hired a lot of really good coaches., and one who is in GOAT discussions. The job eventually morphed to require bean-counting, human resources, and all sorts of administrative stuff, but the Bobfather had a bunch of people skills and good instincts. He served us well for many a year.

    Miles extension poll

Hiring Scott Frost at Nebraska is a bit like making a 3 foot putt for par. Not all that challenging. Let's not pretend we hired Nick Saban here or something. Besides from all reports it was actually Davison that got that job done anyway. For me the jury is still out...WAAAY out...on Moos' actual capability. That's all.

You're just not looking at this from a realistic perspective. Tim Miles' job security is poor. Hanging by a thread is probably the best way to describe it right now. Tim knows it, his assistants know it and his players know it. What you're seeing are people trying to secure a stable future for themselves and their families, which they have every right to do, and which no reasonable person could challenge or dispute. If you know your boss isn't likely to survive for very much longer in his current role, would you not secure something more stable for you and your family? Making Nebraska great again doesn't pay college tuition or a mortgage.

  13. The World Herald today said that Hunter was offered a $20,000 raise to stay and would receive the title of "Associate Head Coach" The article also quoted Hunter saying that he has left Copeland twice now, and he (Copeland) understands the situation and he realizes that he and the team are in a real good position right now for next season. (paraphrasing a little there)

  14. Well ... Miles' people reached out to my people and hinted that if I was willing to accept an offer, they would make one. I asked would it come with a country club membership? Oh yeah. How about use of a car? Yep, of course. My own private chef and an unlimited supply of beer? Uh, no. Sorry, deal breaker. I think I'll use the overture to get a raise at work, though.

Moos absolutely deserves credit for hiring Frost. He may not be the reason for it. But he was also the reason it didn’t get screwed up. He played it perfectly and was smart enough to use the resources he had and when to push the buttons. Anyone paying attention to Husker athletics knows that common sense hasn’t really been present in the ADs role since about 2002-2003 Moos was smart enough to not fuck it up and that’s easier said than done given our last two decades With that being said, and considering the awkward position he walked into because of Eichorsts’ dumbass, I’m willing to give Moos a shot

jimmy, I have no idea why, but the red down arrows have been flying around this site recently. Maybe it's the world we live in. Maybe it's because people don't have time to hug the people they love. Maybe it's because of financial pressures. Maybe it's because the weather is more like winter than spring. I truly think it's because they've never heard the Turtles.

  21. I honestly felt like when she played this last year she looked great and way better than Washington. Dlrk also made it sound like Rachel knew she could play more than she was, as if I remember at some point Dlrk was getting frustrated that she wasn't getting more playing time.

It's probable we've reached out to Altman over the years more than Peter denied Jesus. When I'm poking fun at Altman coming here, it's because he's the first name that people list after every season because it seems like the allure of drinking 12 Busch Lights at Wilber Czech days is going to make it happen. The reports of us contacting Altman? Sure, whatever. The reports that he's coming here? Send him to the Knights of Blanik table for his tankard of expired beer.

Assistant coaches leaving are a different case than many of these, but when schools refuse to release kids it is usually written about by national writers and not in a favorable light. Forcing a kid to go somewhere he no longer wants to go or else face a stiff penalty is going to be held against your program, especially on the recruiting trail. If Xavier doesn't want to come to Nebraska any more, you let him go. If he does want to go to UConn, that just proves Kenya was the reason he signed with Nebraska in the first place. If Xavier tells Kenya he wants to follow him, is he supposed to say no? Saying yes doesn't make him a bad guy.

  26. Didn’t follow the team in depth at that time but from how others talk he is the kinda guy I would be looking for. He was rather successful at South Dakota as the head coach. I have no clue who they would target and I saw someone else started a petino thread(lolz) but I’d like to see them make a serious run at David Padgett. He was a pretty successful college big man, has a few years as an assistant under his belt, did a pretty fine job in a messy situation as a head coach for one year, and is only 33.

Wish we could but no great assistant will take a job in Lincoln until Moos poops or gets off the pot with Miles contract. I know if you're looking you don't want to extend and make the pay out more but not doing so may set the program back a long ways.

I'll take this as an initial reaction that probably everyone had. One of those "better if I didn't say anything" reactions. As much as it hurts, you can't fault him. Job security and status is up in the air here, he probably wants a head coaching gig in the near future as well. My best guess is that he was waiting for his kid to graduate to get that head coaching gig. It looks a lot better on a resume to say that you were an influential recruiter under both Hurley and Miles. I know it sucks, I don't fault you for that reaction. I think everyone is upset. However, when you look at it from the perspective of a coach, it's probably the best move for him.

I just don't understand why all these guys would not want to be back next year? There is a reason we never make it over the hump. It is because guys aren't in it to win for Nebraska, they are in it to make a name for themselves. If coach Hunter, Copeland and Palmer all come back with the mindset of "Lets win this for Nebraska!" things would fall into place for everyone involved. I don't think I am speaking out of place when saying that if these guys all came back with a goal of winning the whole damn thing. Both Palmer and Copeland would be looking a better draft status. You could include Roby in that discussion as well. Winning ball games, gets the eyes on you! if I were all of them I'd be all about it, but that is the key "I'm not them". It is like the office worker that is unhappy with his job, but doesn't do anything about it but complain. Then he takes another job that is basically the same thing at a different place. Rinse and Repeat. Kenya Hunter - If he leaves to UConn, Xavier or any other school as an assistant. He would basically be starting over from scratch. He would single handedly ruin any possibility of Nebraska breaking through next year, because he is a big part of the reason a lot of these kids are at Nebraska. What would look better? Taking a Big10 Nebraska team to the NCAA tournament next year and making some noise? Going to Xavier to work with a new coach that has no guarantee to do well? Go to UConn that is in the AAC? I think his best option is to prove he can do the unthinkable and take this Nebraska team to winning some games in the tournament. It is right there in front of these guys, and if everyone buys in, good things will happen next year. Hunter will be offered head coaching positions, instead of assistant positions... If Nebraska makes a run next year! Copeland and Palmer - If neither of them are projected to be drafted in the 1st round, it should be a no brainer to come back. They can play in the D-League any damn time they want. They can play overseas this year, and any other year after this one. So why not do it at Nebraska? If either of them get a 1st round pick evaluation then by all means take the leap,. if not make history for a University that would put you in their hall of fame for being the first players that got them their 1st NCAA tournament win. I know I am not them, and they have to do what they feel is in their best interest! I get that, but being a Husker Legend and doing something that has never been done by anyone else that has put on the same uniform. <<<That would be a hell of a lot better then playing for team overseas IMO

  49. My opinion on Miles' extended contract drastically changes depending on the validity of this news. And the fact that it weighs so heavily on his staff is concerning. But hey, he's adapted before and has found replacements that work. This one brought us such a good pipeline of players though. Let's hope the current pipeline doesn't defect.
