  1. Option #3 is the worst choice of all. If you have not noticed, few kids have been talking Nebraska the last few years. Miles was recruiting Roby, Morrow, and Watson their sophomore years and was in on Jacobson,Allen, and Nana their early junior years. We are not hearing the buzz from sophomores and juniors like in previous years. Evelyn, Smith, Horne, and Jordy were recruited and signed late in the process, and only Jordy has panned out from that group (assuming he stays). Kids are going to see a program in flux and will cross Nebraska off their lists because of the uncertainty. In one year, Nebraska could easily lose Watson, Palmer, Copeland, Roby, and Jordy which will likely comprise of 95% of next year's squad scoring. It will only be worse if Nebraska has to replace its coach as well. To maintain the program, this year is critical to recruiting, and Moos just gave all of the other schools ammunition for negative recruiting. I could care less whether Moos took Option 1 or 2, but Option 3 gives the appearance Moos cannot make a decision.

  5. Usually the coaches know most or all roster attrition issues after spring break in hoops. Usually. (Andrew White was a different deal.) Over the years: Fuller - March 13 Horne - March 15 J. Shepard (women) - March 27 Hammond - March 29 Morrow - March 30 T. Smith - March 31 Hawkins, Vucetic - April 2 Jacobson - April 10 Evelyn - April 12

  8. Watson I can understand why he would try. Roby, though, if I am not mistaken may want to wait. I believe you can only go through the process once. As a sophomore, if you submit your name, you can come back...but then you can't do that again as a junior. I believe you only have a one time chance to test the waters.

  9. These same people that want to offer a 1 year extension and make Miles "prove" himself better not come back on here when we have a few bad recruiting classes the next two years and blame it on Miles if he would get a longer extension after next year. Go all in, or get out. Moos has his hands tied right now. Tough spot to be in.

  10. Man, I got emotional listening to that. Feel for the kid. Kinda sounds like he got a raw deal... obviously only getting his side of the story, but it sure seems to me he was getting the signals that he was gonna be a main rotation guy, the bang - bench.
    1 point
  11. Yeah. Particularly impressive is his positive spin on his bench role: on the scout team, he became “the guy” and shouldered a heavy load in the go-to role, which he would never have experienced with playing time. He’s a “things happen for a reason” guy. He comes across as a high character person you’d always want to have on your team.

  12. Good listen. Talks about the downs of not getting much of a chance to play this season and Ali leaving. He deserves a lot of credit for not burning bridges this year and making the most of the bench mob and scout team. Really respect him making the best of not the greatest situation for him minutes wise this year.

    2018 Husker Baseball

I believe the arms we lost were going to be relied on for some pretty heavy innings. A lot of teams would struggle if they lost their closer, a weekend starter, and two of their top middle relievers/mid week starters. Offensively I agree. Not much talent or consistency from the plate.

  18. ESPN article from the AP LINCOLN, Neb. -- Coach Tim Miles will be back for a seventh season at Nebraska and talks about a contract extension will begin after NCAA basketball's Final Four, athletic director Bill Moos said Tuesday. Miles is 97-97 with one NCAA tournament appearance in six years. Moos, hired away from Washington State in October, said he liked what he saw this season as the Cornhuskers went 22-11 and finished tied with Final Four-bound Michigan for fourth place in the Big Ten. "I've always considered him my coach and felt he had a pretty solid year and deserved to continue and to build the program," Moos said of Miles in an interview with The Associated Press. The Huskers went into the 2017-18 campaign coming off three straight losing seasons and finishes of no higher than 11th in the Big Ten. Former athletic director Shawn Eichorst chose not to extend Miles' contract after each of the past two seasons. Miles has two years left on a contract that will pay him $2.375 million in 2018-19. "I really can't judge what he's done before I arrived," Moos said. "But I thought he did a real nice job this year. He brought in some talent and managed it very well. I really thought we improved during the course of the season, which is something I look for, especially when you have new players who are getting used to each other. "And hey, we won 22 games -- 13 in the Big Ten and finished in fourth place when we were predicted to finish near the bottom. I didn't see any reason not to continue the course." Nebraska beat Michigan by 20 points in Lincoln in January but lost by 19 to the Wolverines in the Big Ten tournament. The Huskers were 16-1 at home, with the only loss by 1 point to Kansas, which also is in the Final Four. The NCAA selection committee didn't deem the Huskers' résumé strong enough for an at-large bid. They instead went to the NIT and lost at Mississippi State in the first round. Nebraska is the only school from a power conference that has never won an NCAA tournament game, and the last time the Huskers claimed even a share of a regular-season conference title was in 1949-50. The Huskers opened a new practice facility in 2011 and new arena in 2013. "Really, all we're missing is the tradition, and you've got to start that at some time," Moos said. "Arizona wasn't Arizona before Lute Olson got there. Stanford wasn't Stanford before Mike Montgomery got there. So you've got to start somewhere. Usually, it's with stability, if someone is having success." Nebraska also announced Tuesday that guard James Palmer Jr. and forward Isaac Copeland Jr. will declare for the NBA draft but will not hire an agent, allowing them to maintain their college eligibility if they withdraw their names from consideration by May 30. Palmer was the Big Ten's fifth-leading scorer, at 17.2 points per game, and a second-team all-conference pick. Copeland averaged 12.9 points and 6.1 rebounds.

  23. I think many people are getting hung up on the buyout numbers as having a huge impact on the decision-making process. I really don't think anyone in the athletic department cares. They're paying (at rough estimate) $14 MILLION for Bo, Shawn, and Mike to not work here anymore. What's another couple million on top of it?

  24. If, say, Wisconsin, coming off of 19 straight NCAA Tournament appearances, had our schedule and record, would they have been left out? Hell. No. So there's that.

  25. I'm assuming the $700k buyout is for someone else to hire him, not for us to fire him.

  27. Leave it as is. There always have been and always will be middling teams on the bubble. That will not change whether its a 68 team or 128 team tourney. Someone is always going to be upset. Adding a few other bubble teams in favor of Texas Southern and Norfolk State (or whoever) isn't going to change much.

  28. I sure hope he has a better 5-year plan than just relying on transfers from here on out.
    1 point
  29. Yeah, I don’t think we can say without a doubt that the system didn’t change. It was said to have been the same, but when push game to shove, and the teams were announced, it changed. Teams with a lot of quadrant 1 wins were allowed in with poor records. Bubble teams that got in had a lot of quadrant 1 wins. If they truly did things the way they had in previous years, we wouldn’t have had certain teams in there... including the 9th place PAC-12 team and the 9th place Big 12 team. Sorry, but when you look at the metrics, Quad 1 was absolutely favored over all other metrics.

  30. Ironic because we essentially had a mid major resume this year.

  31. The Committee screwed the Huskers this year. It rejected 61 years of precedent and focused, for this one season, on a value that overcame late-season collapses. There is no sugar coating what they did to Nebrasketball. Next year's Committee, on the other hand, will have a majority of members from the low- and mid-majors. So, they will be focusing back on the old way that values number-of-wins, not the quadrant system, because that's what low- and mid-majors will have. So . . . the reality is that Nebrasketball gets squeezed out, this year, by an aberration. And next year, there will be a greater number of low- and mid-majors getting in. So it will be harder for high-majors, like Nebrasketball, to get in--even with high-quality wins. But that's Nebraska's luck, I guess.

  33. Perhaps not; But anything less and he runs the risk of being thought of as another Shawn Eichorst! It is 'only' his 'Credibility' that is at Stake! I think our biggest 'Secret Weapon' in this whole affair is: 'Bill Moos' - Any decision made regarding the coach for next year I'd much rather have a 'Bill Moos' making it than a 'Shawn Eichorst.'

  34. Kansas State went 4-9 in Quadrant 1 going into the tournament with an RPI of 53. Nebraska: 1-6 with an RPI of 56. Sadly, the committee put all their value in categories we didn't excel in. That, and a little bad luck with the Big Ten/RPI logic not providing us with 13 Quad 1 opportunities and instead we ended up with 7.

  35. The plan is to have Miles Munson us during the Final 4 to what... Save $4 mil and not have a coach lined up? Or we have a guy lined up but only if Miles up and leaves? Neither of these things seem plausible

  36. It's not an issue of your opinion. I've deliberately stayed away from the annual piling on by people saying we need to fire the coach. I've left plenty of room for those who want to bash the staff, the players, the bench, the effort, the scheduling, the recruiting, the conference, whatever, to do that without interruption from me. Let them have their go. And, for those who want to rub everyone's noses in their "realism," there are plenty of threads out there, I'm sure, to point out the downside. I just wanted to carve out one tiny little slice of positivity and point out that, in three games against Final 4 foes, we played 'em even. And less than 5 posts and 2 hours later, someone has to come along and remind us that, well, yeah, but we lost to St. John's and UCF, so ... I'm pretty sure everyone on the board already knew we lost those games; I figured people might not have put together the fact that the aggregate scores of those three games against teams that made the Final 4 was a draw. So, thanks for pissing in my Wheaties. Yeah, whatever.

  37. So much for not giving down arrows for a difference of opinion, and it wasn't a difference of opinion. I stated the scores of two games that kept us out of the tourney. Whatever, Norm.
